  • Namibia has 29 airports and no national flag carrier since Air Namibia got liquidated at the height of the Covid 19 pandemic. On the other hand, Ethiopia is doing well in the aviation industry. Could the two countries cooperate to revive Air Namibia

    Hi, this year I’m flying down to Namibia. Thanks for filming it by the way, you did a great job. I have a question: does Ethiopian Airlines offer Ethiopian food and a kind of Ethiopian service? In Europe we don’t know that much about African cuisine although it is so exciting! But I guess we chose the right carrier when we decided to take Ethiopian. Emirates or KLM were just too expensive.

      Thank you for watching and the kind encouraging words 🙏🏽. Yea, I frequently fly Ethiopian, the largest and best airline in Africa. I have many videos about them on this channel. They offer Ethiopian food only in business class. In economy class they serve normal international foods and drinks. If you want to experience Ethiopian food, make a turn at one of the restaurants at Addis Ababa airport if you have time during your transit. Hope Ethiopian airlines meets your expectations and I would like to wish you a safe and enjoyable flight. Remember, to subscribe and stay in touch 🙏🏽

      @@NamibianCZcamsChannel still one question remains: what is in your opinion a very good Ethiopian dish? I know Injera and Shiro Wot (hope I wrote it correctly), but I’ve never eaten it before. As I heard Ethiopian cuisine has some similarities to Indian cuisine.

      @@Jako115 Ethiopian food has a lot of varities. Injera and Shiro wot, as you correctly said, normally served with other vegetable stews, is nice and popular especially during Ethiopian fasting seasons; they cal it Betyaynetu (. means variety) Doro Wot (chicken stew) and other meat based stews are also served with Injera and they are normally eaten during holidays. There is also Beyaynetu( variety of meat based stews). I recommend Beyaynetu (meat/vegan)for you so that you get to taste many one plate. Anyways, check their menu and see what works for you. Ethiopia is a unique country almost in everything; food, clothing, music, dance, language, alphabet, calendar, culture, landscape etc. visit it when you can. Let me know should you have any other questions. 🙏🏽

    I dnt think a national airline is necessary. Let a namibian private airline continue to grow. People dnt eat national flag. Airline industry has become competitive as every country want to Have an airline but many national airlines will close due to stiff competition. A profitable airline can be kept not loss making. What's important is to look at Why Morocco, Egypt and SA thave highest tourism figures in africa than Ethiopia which travels almost everywhere and has many planes? Its simple: most airlines flying to Morocco, Egypt and SA are not african airlines but international airlines. Moreso, Ethiopia therefore serves as a transit of tourists than a destination of those tourists using Ethiopian airlines. Thus in as much as Ethiopia airline makes profit, the ultimate winner is the economy of the destinations of those tourists. Thus u just have to look at how much SA makes from tourism. About 10 billion USD before Covid. Egypt was same. Therefore I personally any private namibian airline like Fly Namibia can use international routes.

      Thank you for watching. Your comment intrigued me. The political problems and instability of Ethiopia could not let its tourism sector capitalise on the strength of its airlines. On the other hand, Namibia has a strong tourism industry but no national carrier. However, travel and tourism are two sides of the same coin. A good national flag carrier promotes tourism. I think Egypt and Morocco have sound national airlines. Many African countries, including South Africa, are busy reviving their national carriers. Emirates, Qatar, etc are good examples of successful airline and tourism sectors. But I fully understand your points and concerns 🙏🏼.

      Building a robust carrier is like a culture that you nurture over many years. Ethiopian had a history of initiation some 80 years back with american support while many African countries were under colonial rule. I guess the saying goes "the early bird cathes the warmth". Secondly it takes a whole lot more that just fleets, namely training, maintenance, catering, mangement, logistics etc and ET got there early again. Withstanding competition requires all these background plus passion and patriotism for the job. Tourism is whole other game with its own factors at play. Good read though.

    • @NamibianYoutubeChannel
      @NamibianYoutubeChannel  Před rokem +2

      @@goodman2995 thank you for your interesting comment. South African airways is older than Ethiopian airlines. Up until some 15 years ago, SAA was way bigger than ET. However, ET's turn around strategy has made it successful. Ethiopia's political situation poses a threat to sustain the growth of ET. I believe any airline can be the best if it's managed properly. Rwandair is a good example. Other airlinses can follow suit. The need for air transport continues to grow and Namibia deserves its fair share from it. If we let every state owned enterprise get out of business like Air Namibia, where will we end? 🙏🏼

      @@goodman2995 I fully agree. The Geo-position of Addis Ababa is convenient for the business of the airline although the altitude of the airport is a drawback. Having a national flag carrier could enhance patriotism and unity besides economical benefits. Thank you for watching and discussing.
