The Ed Sullivan Show was a television variety program that aired on CBS from 1948-1971. For 23 years it aired every Sunday night and played host to the world's greatest talents. The Ed Sullivan Show is well known for bringing rock n' roll music to the forefront of American culture through acts like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. The entertainers each week ranged from comedians like Joan Rivers and Rodney Dangerfield, to Broadway stars Julie Andrews and Richard Burton, to pop singers such as Bobby Darin and Petula Clark. It also frequently featured stars of Motown such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5. The Ed Sullivan Show was one of the only places on American television where such a wide variety of popular culture was showcased and its legacy lives on to this day.

Hmm
Cause people had it tough so they liked to show their soft side to girls, now people have it easier; they try to portray the opposite.

I had the pleasure to meet him in person at the Santa Monica Public Library in 2013. He was on his autobiography book tour. There was only 40 people attendance a real intimate setting. That 1 hour he shared with us his growing up in Canada...Diana...as a young boy. How he spent several summers in Los Angeles at his uncle's house. Frank Sinatra...the Mob in Las Vegas, who payed him. He took questions and answered all of them. Then pictures with him, my 13 year old daughter and me. Took the time to talk with my daughter. Paul was so gracious. An evening we'll never forget.

Watch any pre 80s tv show performance they all emphasize faces more since it’s all lip sync. They don’t hook up instruments or mics. Modern days are harder tbh 😂
The Original Mr Steal Your Girl lol😅
[Verse 1]
Put your head on my shoulder
Hold me in your arms, baby
Squeeze me, oh so tight
Show me that you love me, too
[Verse 2]
Put your lips next to mine, dear
Won't you kiss me once, baby
Just a kiss goodnight, maybe
You and I will fall in love
(You and I will fall in love)
[Bridge]
People say that love's a game
A game you just can't win
If there's a way, I'll find it someday
And then this fool will rush in
[Verse 3]
Put your head on my shoulder
Whisper in my ear, baby
Words I want to hear
Tell me, tell me that you love me, too
(Tell me that you love me, too)
[Outro]
Put your head on my shoulder
Whisper in my ear, baby
Words I want to hear, baby
Put your head on my shoulder

Paul anka was 19 when he wrote this
lesley gore was 17 when she sang 'its my party and she's a fool'
they really raised them mature
i totally agree and dion was 20 when he sang a teenager in love. so many young talented singers back in the day.
This is what you call a real performance... no autotune just genuinity...
lol lip sync. No mics no instrument connections on these shows. Sorry everyone.
This is why there were more talented artists then, because you couldn’t just fix your voice with auto tune.
He is so charming!

What a timeless classic this song is so special in that it will simply never age. Paul was just breathtaking in this. Such phenomenal talent for someone so young at that time. We're so fortunate to see him gracing this very same youthful spirit on the stage even today. I absolutely adore him.

This song has been covered by many. Paul's is One of the best, not only vocally, but his facial expressions, he makes you feel like, he's really asking you. One of my favorites by him is... "Times Of Your Life" released in 1975, which was originally written for a Kodak commercial. I don't think I will ever be able to listen that song, and not get emotional. Thank you for sharing! 💖

Wow, 1959! Three years before I was born... Didn't realize the Ed Sullivan show went back to the 50's, for one thing. 🙂
first episode was 1948
One of my favorite Paul Anka songs. Thank you for posting this.
He slides up the scale effortlessly
I'm dieing for his special smile
I'm 12 and I love old music it's my vibe, I love old stuff.
Did he ever sing "Diana" on the Ed Sullivan show? If so I'd love to see that!
On his first two appearances in 1957, he sang "Diana". There is a very good chance that they will post his second appearance singing the song since they have been showing that clip for years in their "Best of Sullivan" syndicated packages which have been airing on different stations since the 1990's. It was on the same show that Jimmie Rodgers sang "Honeycomb", which they posted recently, so I'd be very surprised if it didn't show up eventually. I'd love to see all the footage of Paul Anka.
Man. We want these songs to return they're so calming.
