  • Just a quick video to explain how the large axle nut and lock nut all come together if you have never taken an axle apart and don't understand how this works you will most likely do it the wrong way..
Been there done that. its easy when you see it.

Haha glad i could help, i forgot about this video actually. When you put it back together i always wrapped the lock nut in electeical tape to keep it from coming loose wich it almost always would. Thats why theres alot of aftermarket set ups that get rid of the lock nut

Dude, this explained it perfectly. Searched for a while and wanted to see how it works visually. Perfect! Thanks for posting this. Really helpful indeed.

Just replaced the carrier bearing on my 400ex. This axle nut had me stumped. Thanks for the video.

My problem is I can't get the larger outer lock nut to spin outward on the inner threaded/splined collar so that it can push itself toward the rotor hub :(

So mine came with two circlips…have NO idea what the second one is for. Also, it was a BITCH to get that circlip back into that groove in the nut. I had to lean a prybar against the bottom of the clip with my leg, using my other leg as a stabilizer. Used my right hand to push the each end of the ring into the groove, while my left hand was tightening the nut until it popped in there and I could tighten it down all the way. Took 2 hours. * glances at time * and no.. actually took 3 hours. I’ve been at it since 4. It’s 7 now and I JUST got done. But yeah… I have no idea what that second clip is for and I wish I could find the aftermarket locknut I already had on it. The bolt stripped out.

Idk why theres 2 clips either... Unless it's an aftermarket set up the stock set up you just slide that circlip on the axle Into that groove and then that's what prevents the whole nut assembly from just pushing itself back off the axle when you tighten it, That's what holds it on the axle so it doesnt slide right off ..... Did you make good aftermarket ones that you don't have to worry about But a little advice rap electrical tape around the lock nut and the big nut so it doesn't come loose when you're riding it Or else will destroy the bearings in one ride
