In the book, the pressure on him about his mother's illness is a huge part of why he is trying to please everyone. He believes if he leaves Darcy, his loved mother might relapse into dreadful depression. It makes more sense. But it's only touched on a bit in the movie.
I never noticed how to into her he is in the flashback and how confused he is by her leaving and by her pushing him towards darcy. such interesting acting and it's so fascinating that i can rewatch it years later and understand it totally differently.
I know Rachel is dead wrong, that’s undeniable but just look at the fact here, if Dex hadn’t called off the wedding, she still would have married him and let him raise the child that isn’t even his, that’s bullshit. Besides, she didn’t know about the affair but she still cheated with Marcus, that’s who she is so frankly, she had no right to get angry!!!
Darcy is I think the worse of the two, but Rachel is to blame for allowing Darcy to take advantage of her for so long. People like that tend to do it to those who'll allow them. Darcy has a personality disorder for sure tho, either borderline or narcissiscism because she literally only thinks about what she wants and doesn't care at all about who or what is in her way. Yes Rachel is wrong for going after an engaged man, but I don't really think that they were ever friends. Darcy saw Rachel as a worker bee and that's it.

He wanted to have his cake and eat it to and played both these women like puppets. He doesn’t get nearly as much hate as he deserves.

This movie is terrible. The message is awful. So, it is OK to backstab your bestfriend just because you saw the pretty boy first? 1. Kate Hudson's character is annoying. And it was obvious from the beggining that she had an affair with that Marcus guy and would end up with him. 2. The main guy is some kind of coward with no personality what so ever. 3. The main girl is the worst friend ever. And we are supposed to be empathic and feel bad for her? Come on. 4. And Ethan... can't he be just a good friend? Why does he had to be inloved with the main protagonist. I mean, for christ sake. I hated every part of the film. So many clishes.
