#NHL #Lastpick - Sport
Hope you all enjoyed!
Totes! Currently watching it now.
Loving the old footage! I saw an NTV logo down in the right corner of some clips, Newfoundland Television OG lol. I think the logo is still the same. Keep up the content my dude. We love you here on the rock 👌👍
Calgary Flames games? My sympathies to you.
You missed an interesting fact about Hornqvist. In the 2016 playoffs, he scored the first goal for the Pens against the Rangers in Game 1 of the 1st Round. He also scored the last goal for the Pens against San Jose in Game 6 of the Finals. So he literally opened and closed the Penguins scoring for the 2016 Playoffs. Cool Video.
Where did you get the NTV footage lol
Hornqvist and Crosby were 1st and last in the same draft class. They ended up playing on the same line often. Hornqvist was a joy to watch, really the engine to keep everyone psyched up.
Learning about Tony Hand’s story was really cool. I had never heard of him before watching this video, but now I’m really wishing that he had ended up playing for us. Ah, what might have been… But homesickness is something that I can definitely understand
Worst thing my Pens did was get ride of Hornqvist. He brought so much energy and feistiness into the lineup. Also amazing in front of the net and in battle along the boards.
Definitely a headache to play against.
Being from an ECHL city, I see a lot of what I would consider significant talents seemingly go unnoticed. It's crazy
NBA has a version of this, Isaiah Thomas (the younger). He was the 60th pick. Then became an All Star. Unfortunately, his performance dipped but still one hell of an achievement for the last pick of the draft.
He was also injured a lot when his performance dipped. Still pretty impressive for a guy who is only 5' 9"
There is only 2 draft rounds in the nba
@@Jman-cx4bd that's why he said he was the 60th pick. 30 teams time 2 rounds equals 60 picks
NBA far less impressive with only 2 rounds. Plus the modern NBA is trash.
@@torrey88 Current NBA is arguably the most competitive it has ever been. What are you smoking???
HM: Defenseman Jonathan Ericsson last overall (291st) in 2002 would go to play 680 games in the NHL retiring after the 2019-20 season
NHL head coach Paul Maurice was the last overall pick #252, in the 1985 draft by the Philadelphia Flyers. In 87/88 while playing for Windsor Spitfires he was blinded in one eye ending his playing career and launching his coaching career.
Oh wow! Never heard that story!
I watched Tony Hand play in his final seasons. Dude was in his late 40's but still the best in the league
I think Niko Huuhtanen, the Mr Irrelevant of the 2021 Draft, could make the NHL one day. He's a 6'2" Right Wing drafted by Tampa. He's got 24 points (12 goals, 12 assists) in the Finnish pro league this year at just 19 years old and was part of Finland's World Junior Team, where he scored 3 points in 5 games
Wild fan here, Jacob Middleton is a great fighter but also I think his game intelligence is also really insane. Glad we have him on our team, his mustache is just to sexy.
Jonathan Ericsson was the last overall pick in 2002 and played in over 600 games for the red Wings
It's insane watching junior hockey and seeing how many amazing young talents just aren't even close to NHL scouts radars. Late picks in the draft are certainly very intently picked players.
It seems like now, if you’re picked after the first round (sometimes in the first round even) you’re ceiling is as high as you want it to be. I value a late first the same as an early third, you have a similar ceiling and the team that picks you just needs specific rolls to be filled or you might be a “project” for them to mold and that team has no problem taking their time.
@@joshhale9355 There's a lot of players that just get stuck in lower roles never being able to show off or grow to their true potential unfortunately
Fkin love Hornqvist! Best net-front presence of his generation tbh. An absolute pest but in the most respectable way and scored one of the most clutch SCF goals of all time, against the team that gave him up no less. He’s been sorely missed in Pittsburgh
As a fan of the Penguins, it was a privilage and an honor to have Hörnqvist on the team. I loved him in Sweden and I loved him i. Pittsburgh.
His chemistry with Sid the Kid was amazing!
He was so good to
He's also been great down in Florida, He's especially good on leadership for the team and is one of the best veteran presence there
We should of never got rid of him
@@jamaldee2355 why did we even
Best ever? Taro Tsujimoto!
🤣🤣🤣
That’s a great story. Reminds me of the Invalid Pick that Edmonton had in (I think) 1990. Probably the worse draft year for any team in NHL history.
Good video, love the topic. Just one small critique, you pronounced Glen Sather as "Slater" a few times when discussing that English chap.
Fantastic, coherent, well-researched video as always. Always love the knowledge and the footage. One of the best CZcamsrs out there, my go-to for hockey.
Thank you sm! I appreciate the support and the kind words!! ❤️🔥
Enjoyed these underdog stories! Sometimes players do not get the recognition they deserve and these players are well-deserved to be in the spotlight!
It doesn’t matter where you’re taken and these men proved it!
Great video from a highly underrated hockey youtuber. Thanks for the upload!
Thank you my guy!!
I love trivia like this! :)
It was fun to research!!
Kim Johnsson was selected last (286th overall) by the Rangers in 1994. He would go on to have a successful career with New York, Philadelphia, Minnesota, and winning a Cup with Chicago.
I was gonna include him to show his reaction to Dion breaking the same panel of glass twice cause he looked like a disappointed parent 😂😂
Wow the thing with Tony hand is crazy!!? Can't believe a guy that talented didn't wanna play in NHL cuz he was homesick!? That's just wild!?
Hey man, love the videos! Super cool topic and you clearly did alot of research. Just wanted to give a piece of constructive advice- practice appropriate sense stress. You tend to speak in a rhythm and it’s quite distracting. You speak with excellent modulation, but the emphasis you put in a sentence is in exactly the same place every time. Example: “Out of the five who managed to ⬆️PLAY, ONE STANDS ⬇️out among the ⬆️REST⬇️….and that ⬆️PLAYER, was taken⬇️ 21st OVERALL by the ⬆️maple ⬇️leafs.” Its hard to show over text but the flow of the sentence is like that through all of your videos. Really try to practice reading in the voice you normally speak. If you do, you’ll sound alot more professional 👌👌
Another amazing video 🔥🔥
Thank you!!
Go Niners!! 😊as a longtime 49ers fan since 1981 (my 2nd favorite sports team) the Purdy story is one that was needed when it happened..I have hope once again since Jimmy G just did not pan out, especially in clutch moments..and Tony Hand is an incredible forgotten story that should be talked about cause if he would have happened in this era with all the social media now?? I am sure he would have played in the NHL..thanks for another awesome video, I got no clue how I missed this one
Thank you buddy!!
Kim Johansson was good, last pick and 94 and was a solid defenceman for rangers Flyers and I believe the wild
I actually have a Priakin rookie card from the 90-91 Bowman set. Crazy he actually won a ring with the Flames while having just played 2 regular season games before that.
*Big fan, buddy. Been here for awhile. You should actually make 2 of these videos....Part 1: 7 rounds. Part 2: more than 7 rounds.*
Great video. Subbed and hit the bell
Thank you!
I’ll never forget that game 6 goal baby!!!
Gerry Meehan was also the Sabres GM that snuck Alexander Mogilny out of the Soviet Union (via Sweden) so he has that legacy as well
Jacob Middleton, who currently plays for the Wild, was the last overall pick in 2014
Nice Video
I WAS THINKING ABOUT THIS A WEEK AGO, AND I THOUGHT YOUR WERE GONNA TALK ABOUT IT!
WWWWWW Great minds think alike!!
Love the content, my only piece of unsolicited advice is stop with the question mark delivery of information. Just try to talk. Great Video!
Where do you find all these clips? Great video btw
Took a lot of digging haha!
you know you're a long, long time flames fan when you still know/remeber who Sergei Priakin is. I *had* forgotten that he had played in the 89 playoffs though, until a few weeks ago when I was looking over that years roster for a quiz @_@
Cool video, what about the best un drafted players?
Great suggestion! I believe I already made a video on the best undrafted players!
Most underated youtuber fr
Thanks Scott! I rly appreciate it ❤️🔥
Yeah I really enjoy his channel, even though he’s a Flames fan 🤣
Bro really called Middleton a depth defenseman💀
He’s on our top defensive pairing with Spurgeon.
He is still a depth role player. He even said it himself in the clip I used.. I can send u the link if you’d like
PURDY!! 🐐
I remember watching Honqvist in Milwaukee and thinking "this kid is damn good"
Thank for listening to my video idea
Nice NFL tie-in
Thanks bud! hope you enjoyed!
this is the first time ive watched this man and he lives in calgary like me
If theres one thing the flames are good at its drafting late picks. Dustin wolf was 7th round mangiepane was like 4th johnny gaudreau was also like 4th and theoran fluery was a 4th or 5th rounder
Go Flames 🔥🔥🔥
I think Alfredsson was 6th round for Ottawa. Not bad for a hall of famer :)
I thought Brian Elliott was selected last but there was actually one player after him
Thought so too while researching! I actually went back to re look cause I still wasn’t sure XD
Surprised u didn’t mention niko huuhtanen he was taken last in 2021 and tore up the whl last year and is doing the same in the liiga now
I never understood why Tony Hand wasn’t signed. A huge mistake.
Video idea: worst teams in hockey history not just NHL. You could use the 2022-23 Norfolk admirals of the ECHL
U jinxed purdy
Tony Hand is Scottish. Mon eh Scotlands Gretzky. (Down with the UK, independence for Scotland)
Yeah but he played in the British league so hence British Gretzky
Scotland didn't want independence when they asked for their dumb referendum
He did it right in the video. We are Canadian after all so we do know a lot about Britain. British: anyone who is from England, Scotland, or Wales.
HORNQUIST
I know it wasn't the last pick but Mackenzie Weegar was like the fourth last pick
Yup! Lots of good players came very close to last..
Tom Brady is the best ever that was drafted extremely low.
Why is Kim Johnsson not on this list?
"Sather", not "Slater".
Tony Hand,,, man. Lets be real, Edmonton coulda won like 10 more titles if they just paid players and if Tony stayed
sound like itsjerian lmao
i will say this now loud and proud Tony hand was and is better than Wayne Gretzky. i said what i said
Sather not Slater
Tony who?
Tony Hand had the advantage of being a good player in a very weak league in the UK. He would not have had the numbers or the longevity that he enjoyed in the UK if he had played in the NHL or even a top European elite league.
He had 8 points in just 3 WHL games 4Gs and 4As and playing along side messier and Gretzky woulda massively helped him as well. I think he’d be alright!
@@idontgivetkachuk ,
Yeah... but not 4,000+ points, lol.
@@idontgivetkachuk Three games really isn't enough to get an indication of what he was capable of. Plus his first season in the WHL was 87-88. Gretzky left for LA in 88 and Messier for the Rangers in 91. By the 92-93 season the team was a shadow of what it had been in the WHA and the first 10 years in the NHL.
It's too bad that such a promising talent decided to play in such a weak league (and I'm from the UK, but grew up in Canada).
although that is true, i still think he could have put up some decent numbers alongside Gretzky, especially for a Scotsman in the NHL
Hi first ong ong

No Pekka Rinne?
