  • I go pretty in depth here, so I might lose you if you're just looking for a survey of what gear I took.
Editing is hard work, especially when I say "uhhh" every couple of words.
Oh, and I completely forgot to mention the AMAZING bottom pouch of the Cutaway pack.

Solid gear list. Glad to hear you enjoyed your pack!
The umbrella on the short end of the pro trail or tarp is a great tip! Might have to try that one sometime.

Y'all really win MVP for my gear choice this summer. Might snag a Tiempo at some point. Keep on keeping on!

25 miles a day is doable, but I couldn’t imagine doing it every day without poles. The fact that you only ever carried 2 days of food is an inspiration to me. I like my ul gear, but I’ve never thought the packs actually carry comfortably, so I’ll still use a relatively heavy framed pack for more than 3 days of food. For Next summers section hikes I’m gonna aim for bigger miles and less food.

Hey- so glad this came up on my feed!! Whoop Whoop!!! And so happy to see you with cottage company gear. And you did your triple crown- a trail closure is a trail closure. YOU DID IT. And I hope you had a full recovery.

I absolutely love the simplicity and practicality of this gear list. I'd love to see more videos about your AT experience with this gear. I'm definitely subscribing so I don't miss your video about what you missed socially by hiking faster. Make several videos or a long one! Congrats on your Triple Crown! I'd love more videos about "a day in the life" with your very minimalist approach. Did you use a bidet? What was your food like? How did you hang the opsack? Was waiting 30 minutes difficult for water treatment? What about at camp and hydrating food? So many questions! 🤣

Bravo to your ability to hike lightly. I am still working on cutting weight. This is helpful. Best wishes. Happy Trails!

I am envious you don’t need much Motrin. I am well into my 60s and I start every day with three. My base weight is about 8 pounds and I would say it’s a bit more luxurious than your kit. Mostly Zpacks. I was on the LT in July and it was pretty terrible. I got off for a few weeks after July 10-11 hit and the state of Vermont flooded. I went back at the end of August and the trial was pretty much still a steam but doable. I think if I was doing the AT I was considerer a synthetic quilt, I am all in on down but this past summer made me rethink that. Especially using a single wall tent. You certainly kicked ass and put up some big miles. A big day for me in New England is 20 but more like 15 on most days throughout the Whites or LT. Congratulations on your triple crown. My next big hike is the Colorado Trail. I hike with my dog and she hikes pack less.

Looking at your lighterpack (which is a bit different from the video) I was wondering what you ate if you didn't cook or cold soak.

I neither cooked or cold-soaked. Went pretty hiker trash this time around with just dry food!

@@FreerunTMac love your set up - i got a Cutaway and it’s amazing. I was also wondering about food - free advice. Try eating super clean. You’ll get more miles, less inflammation, faster recovery times, better sleep and overall better health. You’re young and in shape. Good for you, but won’t last forever. Evan’s Backpacking videos has good advice on keto diet on the trail and Gear Skeptic deserves an award for his videos on food, nutrition, etc on the trail. Nutrient dense keto food would get you two days worth of food at a fraction of the weight, meaning more miles per day (or less energy used for same miles). Super-healthy food might require supply boxes, at least sometimes. Just thinking of your health/future as a hiker. Very impressed by what you’ve achieved and hope to see more from you.

What a ridiculous, uncomfortable and unsafe load. Miserable hike I suppose as well. No surprised you got sick for 10 days. You gram braggers crack me up. :)

this is actually very good and safe gear, go be a keyboard warrior somewhere else rather then trying to be negative to someone.

@@BradyTheBackpacker You silly ounce-savers on youtube with your quest for the lightest gear are the reason people quit backpacking. You do it only for bragging rights. lol. I can think of better and more sensible ways to stroke an ego. I've done the triple crown (and PCT twice) so I think I can bang away on a keyboard as much as I like.

@@vancey6072 Its a hobby, there is nothing wrong with heavy gear or light gear, hike your own hike, but commenting a negative comment on someones video you watched that you dont know is wrong. No one is bragging about anything, dont assume.

Did you watch to the end? He literally says this is an extreme approach and then he talks about other ways to do it - comfort, slowly etc. It depends what you want to and are able to do. It worked for him with pros and cons. It wouldn't (and couldn't!) work for me and it clearly wouldn't work for you either! But that's OK! Thank goodness we are not all the same!
