I hope they modernize the movement a bit. The most frustrating part of the game is how much you have to run around when doing quests. Also, the swamp areas especially are very frustrating because of how weird the paths are. Sometimes you can't tell whether you can cross in some places or not and because every corner of the map looks the same, navigation can be very annoying.

The funny thing is all the things you’ve outlined as faults with Witcher 1 are why I find it my favourite, the combat, the alchemy at inns and campfires, the story’s structure (voice acting was good in Polish but I’m biased). I hope for the best but I’m worried the essence of what made the first game special will be lost. We’ll see.

    • @atinity6749
      @atinity6749 Před rokem +2

Same! Like sure the combat could be better but honestly, I don't see difference between witcher 1 combat and witcher 3 combat. Or like ubisoft-style combat. They're all just pushing buttons while the animations roll, there isn't much room for maneuvering.
Also I like the campfires and the inns! I like that the inn is always like your base of operation, your stuff is there, games are there, questgivers are there, you can rest there... And the fireplaces! It forces you to plan ahead, to make sure you have enough potions and you've rested and distributed your skill points.
One of the problems of witcher 3 is that it can be very monotonous. Just going from checkmark to checkmark, never having to worry about anything. Interface and minimap makes sure you can never get lost or run out of things... It just needs more of a challenge, more stakes, so that world would feel more real.
In witcher 1, it's easier to role-play as a witcher. You have to do all the rituals, you have to plan ahead, you have to gather knowledge about your foes. In witcher 3, I never cracked bestiary open, because I never felt the need to.
I could go on and on why witcher1 is actually better than witcher 3, I just have huge love for the game 😄 I love both of course but there's something special about W1 ❤️‍🔥

@@atinity6749 I like the thought you put into what you said. The rhythm of W1 combat is important too, it feels pulled from the books as does a lot from W1. That was what made it feel meaningful. The story may feel grand in 3 and I still believe hearts of stone is CDPR’s best narrative achievement but W1 perfectly captured the books. I have always approached Witcher as a book reader well before their English release so that is where my bias originated. The books always put importance on little things so when W1 did so as well it made the game feel harmonious. It’s hard to describe.

Talking about combat stuff, I agree souls like definitely wouldn’t fit Witcher (I’m a huge souls like fan, bloodborne is my favourite game ever, but it’s obviously not the best system for every 3rd person action adventure rpg), but what I think is an amazing step up from the W3 style gameplay is Ghost of Tsushima. Very good game with what I found to be similar to your standard style rpg combat (which is what W3 is) but just a few changes and stuff that add good extra flavour. I’ve always thought the stances in W1 combined with W3 combat could be something great, which is kinda like GoT gameplay. Anyways yeah, way excited for the remake and the potential to improve it there

I want for them to steer away from the level scaling system of W3 and CP2077 and back to how it was in W1 and W2 (note, I'm not talking about the skill poit systems). It feels extremely silly and immersion-breaking that you have hard time defeating a drowner just because it's level 25 and you're level 10. The ridiculous stat scaling of items (like level 1 sword doing 20 damage, level 10 doing 100, and level 100 being close to 1000) just feels so unnecessary, as does making enemies 10 levels above you artificially even more difficult than they would otherwise be, when the previous games simply gave you more skill points that you can use to make yourself stronger, and weapons and armor were meanigfully better, but not exponentially. So overall, reduce the artificial dependency of the strength of your playable character on the level it is at, and remove the levels from monsters altogether. I see no reason why a drowner in one place should be considerably harder to kill than in another. Better weapons and armor could still be locked behind levels (though that wouldn't necessarily even need to be the case), but they should progress like they do in W2, having more sensible differences in stats, like a starting sword having ~10 base damage and a very late game one 30 or 40.
As for CDPR having not managed to make as great games as W3, I don't think that's true. CP2077 was a total mess in technical terms at the start, that's true, but when it comes to pure gameplay aspects, I think it's not really W3's inferior. Mechanically it's more refined, in particular managing to do away with CDPR's traditional achilles heel, which is janky controls. When it comes to other gameplay mechanics, I think the games are about equal. In my opinion W3's world, atmosphere and story are much better though, the witcher world is just such a fascinating setting that's really hard to beat.

When I first played the Witcher 3 it was to long for me. I paused somewhere and came back after half a year and then fell in love with it.
The Witcher 3 is quite long especially before you come to Novigrad.
Then Witcher 1 is not long, what makes it feel long is the old way it is. No fast travel, no fast running or Roach and a lot of unnecessary walking around much. A modernized version would have plenty room for more and can be a lot longer.
I hope that they don't make it to open world. I like that you have areas that are restricted to you, but you should be able to walk back to some area and not completely locked in

Totally agreed with you regarding the asks about having better combat, more armors/weapons, lore alignment and overall side quests!
I'd love to see more "open world" elements... I don't know if it can be more "alive" because open worlds are boring if there is nothing going on in them! Maybe more "guest NPCs"?

They should really fix the navigation in the game (in the Witcher 3) where walking and running is so clunky and on Roach is even worse. Not being able to climb over things or jump in combat also sucks, being stuck on benches really ruins the combat immersion. Hopefully they don’t nerd potions and decoctions, they are too fun.

I like how people are complaining about every game being made in the same engine like they have any idea wtf an engine is. It's like saying that a Pagani is just a Mercedes because it has a Mercedes engine. Look at Cyberpunk, they had to work on an engine and develop a game at the same time, it clearly failed miserably, the witcher 3's engine even had a tone of quirks, people forgot about them because they weren't game breaking.

Cannot tell you how aggressively I agree with the statement you made in this video, "I'd rather they not release the video game, than release it not finished." Of course, I am paraphrasing. Delay it 1 year, 2 years, 5 years, or even 20 years if you have to.
I have to deliberately allocate time for myself to play video games, so to see it go to waste playing something sub-par, is extremeley vexing. I'd much rather just not play the game at all if that is the case.

I don't blame cdpr at all for cyberpunk being a mess on release, I blame corporate push and the community. The game saw delay after delay and I can understand why people were getting frustrated over that, but in the end cdpr had to give in and release what they had which was as we all know so very far from being finished. I still have not played it. I did preorder it, but haven't had the time due to studies and problems with transporting my pc. And honestly I am glad.
I have heard that it wasn't quite up to par with the witcher 3 in the story either, but hey this is the first proper big "game" they made since the witcher 3. It is also the first time they've had to do it all from scratch. Characters, story, world, all of it. With the Witcher some of the ground work had already been done. Obviously they needed to write their story accordingly for it be faithful and all that, but with the passion for the witcher on the team they managed wonderfully. What I'm getting at is that they can't have every product be one success after the other. There's gonna be slips. We shouldn't have blind faith in them, because then we end up with another cyberpunk. On the other hand we also shouldn't cast them aside and forget about them. They did after all make The Witcher trilogy and in doing so proved themselves to be very capable writers and game designers.

If I had to guess, the remake will be similar to what FromSoftware did with Demon's Souls; another developer remade the game but they oversaw the process. Their remake was almost a 1:1 of the original but modernizing it and bringing it forth to current gen. So even though CDPR isn't making it in studio, I think it can still be good, I wouldn't worry too much. Combat needs an overhaul for sure and the way quests are handled in general. Cyberpunk is still a good game even though it came out broken and hopefully they learn from that and will not release games before they're ready. Disagree about the meditation. Honestly Witcher 3 feels like a walk in the park, even on Death March, because of how easy it is to restore your health. Ended the fight? Just meditate. Even on hard you get your potions restored just by meditating which makes it pretty easy provided you're not challenging much higher level foes. Frankly the only reason Death March is still such a pain for me is simply the loading times. If they were faster like in other games in which you die a lot and can simply choose "continue" and it takes about 5/6 seconds to respawn, Death March would pretty much be piece of cake once you get used to it
I think meditating only in fireplaces would bring a better sense of harshness to the trade of being a Witcher.
