So I'm actually a licensed nail tech and here's a couple myths about dip powder that drive me nuts: 1. "It's not acrylic." It's had a lot of good marketing, but at the end of the day, dip powder is just finely ground acrylic powder. It's the same thing, you just apply it to the nail using what is essentially nail glue/superglue (cyanoacrylate), instead of traditional liquid monomer (ethyl methacrylate). I know several nail techs who will use dip powder with traditional monomer if the color they want is available as dip powder but not as standard acrylic polymer powder. 2. "It's inherently healthier than traditional acrylics or UV gel." Again, false. Whether a nail product is "healthy" or not is mostly just down to proper removal vs improper removal (overfilling the natural nail). Dip, gel, and traditional liquid monomer & polymer powder enhancements all have equal risk of damaging your nails when removed improperly. 3. Not really a myth, so much as a warning: DO NOT dip your finger directly into the container unless your hands are clean AND you will only be using that container on yourself. Definitely don't trust any salon that has you dip directly into the main container. It should be individually portioned out in settings where the same dip powder will be used on more than one person. Human hands are inherently gross, and unlike traditional lacquer and UV gel, dip powder CAN support infectious bacteria, fungi, and viruses that can be transferred to another person. Conclusion: It's really just a matter of preference and what application method you feel most comfortable with. If you love the method of application and the look of dip powder, awesome, keep using it. Just PLEASE make sure you're doing it in a sanitary fashion, and PLEASE be gentle to your nails during removals, regardless of what products you are removing. Trust me, it's much easier to prevent damage than try to fix it after it's occurred.
Pouring the powder instead of dipping will keep the bulkiness to a minimum for more natural looking nails. Do it over a cupcake liner to catch the excess and you can pour it back in the jar. It's also a good idea to do a layer of clear at the end to prevent the color from getting buffed off, esp over glitter!
I usually do my nails twice a week so this isn’t something I’d do regularly but I can totally see myself using dip powder for when I go on vacation so I don’t have to worry about my manicure lasting. 1- soak off is similar to gel or acrylic removal. Most of us do clear, peel, dip over. Can last a week or more depending on abuse. 2. Totally possible. Lots of videos. Double Dip clear is used to do the base and top encapsulate glitters. Double Dip makes the best clear I’ve ever used.
I used it and yes you can stamp over them and you can use gel polish over them mine will last me three weeks plus my only thing is my best results come when I keep my hands out of water for about an hour prior to doing the dip because I have a very tight see curve and when my hands getting water now relaxes which in turn would make it pull away from the product when it dries up again

Hi Kelli! I just put clear dip powder on my long natural nails last night to keep them from breaking. I'm going to do some designs on them with Royal-Tea Blue today. One tip that I've learned while using dip powder is to use a fine buffing block on the nails after filing. It gives a smoother, shinier finish when you apply the top coat. I hope that's helpful.😉
I've heard that sometimes the top coat that come with the kits aren't very shiny, so some swatchers I've seen use a gel top coat since the dip powder is unaffected by it.
If I use clear just to reinforce my nails to keep from breaking can you paint over with nail polish without ruining the integrity of the dip? Can I remove the nail polish and repaint before needing to remove the dip?
i just did this too! it feels so nice to have the protection and the ability to shape my nails into a squarer shape without sacrificing strength. now i'm gonna treat myself to new nail polishes :))))))))
You may or may not realize this Kelli but the biggest reason why you're loved so much is because you take the time to completely describe things to people in a down to earth way! This is a dying practice which not many of us practice anymore! Then it leads to something that really happens all too much now days and that is Assuming that that somone understands! I've switched over from dip powder to gel tips, but I have a couple additional tips. 1- Use a cuticle pusher or small scoop to pour the powder over the nail instead of dipping into the powder. The little tray this kit came with is great for this! I just feel like I always got a cleaner, smoother result this way. 2- Start by painting a strip down the middle of the nail, starting a few millimeters from the cuticle. This helps to give more of a c curve without having to file too much and gives strength where it's really needed, especially with longer nails. 3- Use a buffing block after filing and before adding top coat for an extra smooth finish. 4- Don't forget to use the brush cleaner! It can't hurt, and it can save your manicure, cuz if that brush hardens up it's almost impossible to fix. And don't be afraid to play around! You can do some really cool things with dip powder. Just have fun with it!!
Couple of comments- generally no water near your nails within 30-60 mins. Wash before and dehydration are important. Unless you’re extremely skilled, using the orange wood or a water marbling tool or a toothpick (thinner) isn’t optional to get a nice looking nail. To get a good long lasting manicure 3-4 thin dips are recommended as natural nails bend and dip does not. Many colors will buff out white if you file right on it. - so a clear cap is very suggested. Clear is strength. Color is color. Hmm what else… wipe off brush on paper towel each time before going back to the bottle. Wipe bottle with acetone before closing bottle until next manicure.
@@krushibhakta6895 if you have length and it doesn’t stay on-cracks lose corners etc it means you need additional layers. Two dips of color are sufficient for color usually. Sometimes a third is needed. But if you’re not using a clear base I do suggest 3-4 for longevity. If you have a steady hand you should be fine but many starting out with dip do not and will apply the base too thick, or get onto the skin-using a tool to clean up the cuticle and sidewall will help those who struggle. Many who pick up dip are not generally practiced enough to keep it neat without the help of a toothpick or orange wood stick - but some are, also dip has a habit of moving if the base isn’t applied very thinly. Think by your 3rd or 4th time - base is a little thicker, absorbs more powder etc

If it doesn’t go past your finger tips, or you have thick strong nails-you may not need it but that’s something I suggest playing around with after you get a good routine going. Just my opinion :) more pigments colors have less acrylic and more pigment making them not as strong. I’ve been doing dip for over two years and am actually a presenter for Double Dip in their Facebook Geoup.

I am rough on my nails and worked in fast food. Gel comes off my nails in 24 hr. I go to someone to get them done who doesn't dip.your nail in the actual jar she pours some out and the shows that she throws I'm the trash after. My esthetician uses the kiara sky line. We just tried the all in one line vs having to do all the steps but I think the longer step version makes them stronger.
I’ve been doing my own dip forever.. If you do a removal video - please know warm acetone makes a HUGE difference. You can put a bag of acetone in microwaved uncooked rice or a bowl of warm water - and soak you hand in it vs try to remove the dip with room temperature acetone… You’ll be shocked at the difference! 😁
I have an allergy to both gel and acrylic so I can't wear them. However, I can wear dip powder just fine. I like to use clear dip powder and then do my regular manicure on top. I have naturally very thin nails that are prone to breaking.
@@lurcherry Oh it is, when I was doing my own acrylics at home I spilled some monomer on my thigh. The rash/contact dermatitis afterwards was the same as I get on my fingers. (I did change my pants, and wash my thigh right away too)

I had dip professionally done for my wedding and they looked beautiful but eeeeeek did I regret that when it was time to take them off. My natural nails were filed way too much and were paper thin after all the filing, the soaking and removal of the dip did not help that at all. I had to cut them all the way down and just grow it out it took forever!! I love the look but most people I know that dip have messed up nails they've given up on, so that's why they do dip nails. However, your application was beautiful to watch and the end result is awesome I feel like there is nothing you can't do. Also this hair color, makeup colors, and that top are just *chef kiss*
I understand you can use dip as a way to strengthen your nails, and to help polish to last longer if you have bendy nails. I’d like to see a video where you incorporate polish and see what the outcome is!
Some brands of dip systems have you do 2 coats of color and then the clear dip on top of them, then the top coat. I’ve found this is good if your dip color has glitter in it. It keeps you from filing the glitter off. I rarely use dip colors anymore because I change my polish so often. 😋

Since COVID I've been doing my own nails at home. Each time I get better but I use nail tips an dip powder an bought an electric nail file off Amazon. I've gotten pretty good an it lasts at least 3 weeks 🙂
Please do a removal video. I have had dip powder done at a nail salon, but the removal process is what is keeping me from trying dip powder at home. I really just want to try one coat of clear dip powder to smooth out and strengthen my natural nails. I love to change my regular nail polish at least once a week, so I don't want to wear it for longevity. If I did do a color, I would wear a peel off base coat.

I love dip powder because it makes my nails so much stronger. Also, I like to do it with gel basecoat instead, less smelly and works just as good.. just have to cure between coats. My sister sells colorstreet, and I've found I can put them right on top on my dip powder manicure, then when I'm over it I scrape the color street off and my dip powder is still perfect underneath!

I did dip powder sets every day for 5 years as a nail tech. There are some great tips in this video! I'd love to share with you my tips and tricks I picked up to solve some of the common issues with dip powder such as patchy application/bare spots, brush hardening, bumpy finish, thickness, etc. I could also walk you through doing a dip powder French set, ombre, and adding nail art/stamping.
Please try and review Gigi's Custom Dips. They look so amazing and you can get patterns/finishes that you just can't get with polish. I want to see you swatch them so badly.
I like to do 2 layers of color and one layer of clear on top. Kind of like a clear cap with acrylic nails. That way I can file things super smooth without worrying about filing off the color.
This reminds me of Orly Nail Rescue. The nail rescue is basically just using one or two coats of clear and then painting over with regular nail polish. Steps are the same in the end. And I always let it grow out and cut it since it's covering a break instead of going through the process of removal with acetone. But it does last a long time.
the clear powder is also a must over glitter so when you buff it down to a smooth surface, it doesn't affect the glitter. if you buff glitter without the clear over it, it ends up less shiny and almost matte looking.
I will never try this myself, but it's very nice to watch somebody else do it haha.. so if you will do another video, removal or French tip.. please use the holographic powder! Would love to see that one ;)
I dip my nails consistently and use it with holo taco peely base. Lasts about a week for me, but I usually change them purposefully. I also recommend sparkle & Co dip powder. The clear they have is the finest clear I have used and is fantastic.
Happy to see you venturing more into dip powders! I’ve been doing it for almost a year and love it. It’s got a definite learning curve but keeps my nails strong and happy.
I'm so glad to see you doing this :-) I've been doing dip nails for a while now and I've always recommended them no matter what. They're not as harsh on your nails. An as you said it's malleable. I’m interested in seeing more to know if I want to invest in a dip powder set up. I need a long lasting manicure to keep my nails protected since I can be rough on them and I work with my hands. Something long lasting like this could be really good for growing them out and preventing breaks. My favorite part was how easily you cleaned up near the cuticle (as opposed to when I flood my cuticle with polish). But I want to see some more manicures and art and I want to know which brands are good. Do dip powders have a “gritty” look to them? Are some brands better than others with their finish?
I’ve found you only need a clear coat as base if you’re using a bold color of some kind. I used a thermal orange color first time I realized some of the powders can stain your nail badly! Lol. It’s the only time that happened so far anyway! Depending on brands the activator may need a couple of minutes to set the powder. Great tutorial!
I actually use the clear dip not to fill ridges (because the color dip is doing that also, so really no point) BUT it comes in clutch when using dip glitters, because after you do the glitter you can use the clear as a top quote which helps smooth out the glitters and in theory you shouldn’t have any bumpy bits or bits of glitter that are “poking out”.
I have dip on now after not doing it for a year and a half. I like it for when I want to grow my nails because they are weak and peel easily. I prefer the Kiara Sky system. More expensive but quality stuff. They have two starter kits including a French. So mush easier to do a French with dip.
Lint free wipes are one of those things that seem unnecessary until you try them. I find they make a huge difference in polish premoval (& plate cleaning). OPI sells my favorite brand (available on Amazon).
I would suggest Nerd Nails, Triple D, Diplomatiq, or even Sensations of the Eye! Their powder is finely milled, applies easy, and have so much fun stuff!
I've been wanting to get a dip powder kit for a few months! Kind of figure it's one of those things that gets better with practice but it does seem like maybe it would chip less than air dry polish.
Definitely would love videos on removing the powder, and about whether you can do stamping over top or other nail art over top!! I didn't realize dip manicures would last so long, and now I neeeed them 😂 my job is very hands on so I'm constantly looking for ways to make my manicure last longer since being gentle/careful with my hands isn't an option 🙄 I've also seen videos on other channels about doing at using only different colors of dip powder, that would be fun to see you do a video on! Another thing with dip powder! It’s a good idea to do a layer of clear before strong colors to avoid nail staining. Also if you use dip with glitters it’s good to use the clear after as well. That way when you file it, you’re less likely to ruin the glitters. I did notice you mention the unevenness. Dip powder is very similar to acrylic powder. Some people even use dip to build a nail with a nail tip. But with acrylic you have the power to form it with your brush. Dip powder kind of just goes we’re it goes. It’s totally normal to need to file your manicure after you finish! It is more lightweight than your typical acrylic but imo it’s because dip powder is just powder and glue. Acrylic is the acrylic powder and monomer, making it a bit heavier ☺️
I've been doing dip powder nails at home on a semi-regular basis now, but mostly with tips on. The brand i use is DipWell & they're pretty good & affordable, plus send regular emails with tips/tricks & tutorials. I use the clear powder as my main powder since I'd paint my nails with regular polish, & sometimes will use a colored powder. But I've noticed as I've done my nails that wiping the brush off between dipping each nail (like doing my 1st coat of powder, then when doing my 2nd coat I'd swipe the base liquid on the nail, wipe off excess liquid on a paper towel before putting back in the bottle & dipping my nail into powder) prevented contamination & hardening of brushes. Also painting the base gradually down the nail for each layer (1st coat: halfway to 3/4 down nail, 2nd coat: full nail) built an apex on the nail so it looked smoother & less heavy at the cuticle. I wouldn't do more than 2 coats of powder bc it can get THICK quick & can be alot to buff down. Patience is my biggest tip bc I've messed up before & had thick nails all over bc I'd rush painting the base & flooding sidewalls & cuticle, not cleaning it off before dipping. This process is not a rush job & not for last minute. Usually I binge watch shows/movies when doing my nails. Its not difficult, just time consuming, so take your time & its worth it.
My sister has been talking about wanting to get into dip powder. I may have to get this for her birthday! Thanks! Also, Jade leaf was the matcha I started out with too! It is a pretty good quality and the price is great. If you're interested in trying another one, I highly recommend Encha brand matcha. It's the one I eventually switched over to. It's more expensive (T_T) but I think it's a better quality. I find it has a smoother and fresher taste.

I love using dips for my extensions but I use gel base coat and then cure it instead of using the air dry base the it comes with. I prefer this way because I'm very slow at trying to perfect it and the base that it comes with dries so quickly. It takes me forever too because I dip over and over to try to build an Apex too lol but I do love the dips.
I’ve been eyeing the dip powder for awhile now but wanted to see if it was as cumbersome as it sounded when reading instructions. Now maybe I’ll give it a try when I know I’m going to be hard on my nails or on vacation! Thanks for sharing as usual!!

@@krushibhakta6895 this also changes based on length of nail. If it doesn’t go past your finger tips, or you have thick strong nails-you may not need it but that’s something I suggest playing around with after you get a good routine going.
Just my opinion :) more pigments colors have less acrylic and more pigment making them not as strong.

I am rough on my nails and worked in fast food. Gel comes off my nails in 24 hr. I go to someone to get them done who doesn't dip.your nail in the actual jar she pours some out and the shows that she throws I'm the trash after. My esthetician uses the kiara sky line. We just tried the all in one line vs having to do all the steps but I think the longer step version makes them stronger.
I’ve been doing my own dip forever.. If you do a removal video - please know warm acetone makes a HUGE difference. You can put a bag of acetone in microwaved uncooked rice or a bowl of warm water - and soak you hand in it vs try to remove the dip with room temperature acetone… You’ll be shocked at the difference! 😁
I have an allergy to both gel and acrylic so I can't wear them. However, I can wear dip powder just fine.
I like to use clear dip powder and then do my regular manicure on top. I have naturally very thin nails that are prone to breaking.
This is so interesting. I wonder if it’s the monomer you’re allergic to. Dip is just very fine acrylic powder. Glad it works for you!
@@lurcherry Oh it is, when I was doing my own acrylics at home I spilled some monomer on my thigh. The rash/contact dermatitis afterwards was the same as I get on my fingers. (I did change my pants, and wash my thigh right away too)

I had dip professionally done for my wedding and they looked beautiful but eeeeeek did I regret that when it was time to take them off. My natural nails were filed way too much and were paper thin after all the filing, the soaking and removal of the dip did not help that at all. I had to cut them all the way down and just grow it out it took forever!! I love the look but most people I know that dip have messed up nails they've given up on, so that's why they do dip nails.
However, your application was beautiful to watch and the end result is awesome I feel like there is nothing you can't do. Also this hair color, makeup colors, and that top are just *chef kiss*

Some brands of dip systems have you do 2 coats of color and then the clear dip on top of them, then the top coat. I’ve found this is good if your dip color has glitter in it. It keeps you from filing the glitter off. I rarely use dip colors anymore because I change my polish so often. 😋

Since COVID I've been doing my own nails at home. Each time I get better but I use nail tips an dip powder an bought an electric nail file off Amazon. I've gotten pretty good an it lasts at least 3 weeks 🙂

Please do a removal video. I have had dip powder done at a nail salon, but the removal process is what is keeping me from trying dip powder at home. I really just want to try one coat of clear dip powder to smooth out and strengthen my natural nails. I love to change my regular nail polish at least once a week, so I don't want to wear it for longevity. If I did do a color, I would wear a peel off base coat.

I love dip powder because it makes my nails so much stronger. Also, I like to do it with gel basecoat instead, less smelly and works just as good.. just have to cure between coats.
My sister sells colorstreet, and I've found I can put them right on top on my dip powder manicure, then when I'm over it I scrape the color street off and my dip powder is still perfect underneath!

I did dip powder sets every day for 5 years as a nail tech. There are some great tips in this video! I'd love to share with you my tips and tricks I picked up to solve some of the common issues with dip powder such as patchy application/bare spots, brush hardening, bumpy finish, thickness, etc. I could also walk you through doing a dip powder French set, ombre, and adding nail art/stamping.

I like to do 2 layers of color and one layer of clear on top. Kind of like a clear cap with acrylic nails. That way I can file things super smooth without worrying about filing off the color.

This reminds me of Orly Nail Rescue. The nail rescue is basically just using one or two coats of clear and then painting over with regular nail polish. Steps are the same in the end. And I always let it grow out and cut it since it's covering a break instead of going through the process of removal with acetone. But it does last a long time.

the clear powder is also a must over glitter so when you buff it down to a smooth surface, it doesn't affect the glitter. if you buff glitter without the clear over it, it ends up less shiny and almost matte looking.
I will never try this myself, but it's very nice to watch somebody else do it haha.. so if you will do another video, removal or French tip.. please use the holographic powder! Would love to see that one ;)

I dip my nails consistently and use it with holo taco peely base. Lasts about a week for me, but I usually change them purposefully. I also recommend sparkle & Co dip powder. The clear they have is the finest clear I have used and is fantastic.
Happy to see you venturing more into dip powders! I’ve been doing it for almost a year and love it. It’s got a definite learning curve but keeps my nails strong and happy.

I’m interested in seeing more to know if I want to invest in a dip powder set up. I need a long lasting manicure to keep my nails protected since I can be rough on them and I work with my hands. Something long lasting like this could be really good for growing them out and preventing breaks. My favorite part was how easily you cleaned up near the cuticle (as opposed to when I flood my cuticle with polish). But I want to see some more manicures and art and I want to know which brands are good. Do dip powders have a “gritty” look to them? Are some brands better than others with their finish?

I’ve found you only need a clear coat as base if you’re using a bold color of some kind. I used a thermal orange color first time I realized some of the powders can stain your nail badly! Lol. It’s the only time that happened so far anyway! Depending on brands the activator may need a couple of minutes to set the powder. Great tutorial!

I actually use the clear dip not to fill ridges (because the color dip is doing that also, so really no point) BUT it comes in clutch when using dip glitters, because after you do the glitter you can use the clear as a top quote which helps smooth out the glitters and in theory you shouldn’t have any bumpy bits or bits of glitter that are “poking out”.
I love double dip! And yes, dip powders feel pretty lightweight compared acrylic

Definitely try Sparkle & co. They have amazing finishes and opals. The easiest to work with.
I always use the clear powder over my colors and glitters. Especially glitters so that I dont buff the glitter finish.
I have dip on now after not doing it for a year and a half. I like it for when I want to grow my nails because they are weak and peel easily. I prefer the Kiara Sky system. More expensive but quality stuff. They have two starter kits including a French. So mush easier to do a French with dip.
OOOO I just love dips! I would love to actually wear them more but I spend all of my money and time on lacquer lol.

Lint free wipes are one of those things that seem unnecessary until you try them. I find they make a huge difference in polish premoval (& plate cleaning). OPI sells my favorite brand (available on Amazon).
I would suggest Nerd Nails, Triple D, Diplomatiq, or even Sensations of the Eye! Their powder is finely milled, applies easy, and have so much fun stuff!

I've been wanting to get a dip powder kit for a few months! Kind of figure it's one of those things that gets better with practice but it does seem like maybe it would chip less than air dry polish.
Definitely would love videos on removing the powder, and about whether you can do stamping over top or other nail art over top!! I didn't realize dip manicures would last so long, and now I neeeed them 😂 my job is very hands on so I'm constantly looking for ways to make my manicure last longer since being gentle/careful with my hands isn't an option 🙄
I've also seen videos on other channels about doing at using only different colors of dip powder, that would be fun to see you do a video on!

Another thing with dip powder! It’s a good idea to do a layer of clear before strong colors to avoid nail staining. Also if you use dip with glitters it’s good to use the clear after as well. That way when you file it, you’re less likely to ruin the glitters. I did notice you mention the unevenness. Dip powder is very similar to acrylic powder. Some people even use dip to build a nail with a nail tip. But with acrylic you have the power to form it with your brush. Dip powder kind of just goes we’re it goes. It’s totally normal to need to file your manicure after you finish! It is more lightweight than your typical acrylic but imo it’s because dip powder is just powder and glue. Acrylic is the acrylic powder and monomer, making it a bit heavier ☺️

I've been doing dip powder nails at home on a semi-regular basis now, but mostly with tips on. The brand i use is DipWell & they're pretty good & affordable, plus send regular emails with tips/tricks & tutorials.
I use the clear powder as my main powder since I'd paint my nails with regular polish, & sometimes will use a colored powder.
But I've noticed as I've done my nails that wiping the brush off between dipping each nail (like doing my 1st coat of powder, then when doing my 2nd coat I'd swipe the base liquid on the nail, wipe off excess liquid on a paper towel before putting back in the bottle & dipping my nail into powder) prevented contamination & hardening of brushes. Also painting the base gradually down the nail for each layer (1st coat: halfway to 3/4 down nail, 2nd coat: full nail) built an apex on the nail so it looked smoother & less heavy at the cuticle. I wouldn't do more than 2 coats of powder bc it can get THICK quick & can be alot to buff down.
Patience is my biggest tip bc I've messed up before & had thick nails all over bc I'd rush painting the base & flooding sidewalls & cuticle, not cleaning it off before dipping. This process is not a rush job & not for last minute. Usually I binge watch shows/movies when doing my nails. Its not difficult, just time consuming, so take your time & its worth it.

Also, Jade leaf was the matcha I started out with too! It is a pretty good quality and the price is great. If you're interested in trying another one, I highly recommend Encha brand matcha. It's the one I eventually switched over to. It's more expensive (T_T) but I think it's a better quality. I find it has a smoother and fresher taste.

I love using dips for my extensions but I use gel base coat and then cure it instead of using the air dry base the it comes with. I prefer this way because I'm very slow at trying to perfect it and the base that it comes with dries so quickly. It takes me forever too because I dip over and over to try to build an Apex too lol but I do love the dips.
