When kirk hits that first high note you know you're in for a classic. Joy Division were great , however, if you need a band that epitomises the the early 80s post punk doom laden darkness, then stop looking.
Theatre of Hate - original sin Since you came in my life I've had to re-arrange my whole reality Not sexuality, something cleaned A pure mentality...mentality...mentality Their original...their original... sin(repeat) Acid tears on your make-up All illusion is gone Impaled upon your mask All delusion is shown...is shown...is shown Their original...their original... sin
this song was on the bbc biopic of boy george. played by the band apeing the hate it wasn't a bad effort. remember this listening as a 15 year old on John Peel
He took him to court saying he was never Boy George's boyfriend.. I know.. Obviously George had proof. Poor George. He's had his heart broken so many times. I feel so bad for him. D-:
saw them lyceum was a sunday thing was always crazy but on this night was so hot they opened the roof dont know how but was crazy as hell in there , moments you never forget,,,,,,,
I found this after reading Boy George’s autobiography page 165, Kirk wrote the song after having an affair with boy George! “I’ve had to rearrange my whole mentality, my sexuality”
As far as I can determine, though it would need confirming by Kirk Brandon himself, the lyrics appear to be:- 'Since you came in[to] my life, I’ve had to re-arrange my whole reality. Our sexuality, something clean, but pure mentality... mentality... mentality, The[ir] Original Sin. Acid tears on your make-up, All illusion is gone. Impaled upon your mask, Their delusion is shown... is shown... is shown The[ir] Original Sin.' I always imagined it was about a woman (until the court case and the rumour mill began). The cover picture being a woman (Eve) eating (an apple - as the common guess, from the genesis myth, would have us believe). I associated it with my first sexual encounter.. and the mixture of joy, love, and guilt (the remnants of my religious indoctrination about fornication). Much of Kirk's early work with 'The Pack' and 'Theatre of Hate' was anti-religious; King of Kings, Heathen, and Legion... to name three in particular. At best the lyric is ambiguous. Kirk Brandon denied all sexual relations with Boy George, although the judge didn't believe him. One could argue that Kirk Brandon was experimenting, or was unsure about his sexuality, and decided he wasn't gay after this tri/yst.. and therefore denied that he was gay. Obviously Boy George saw the relationship in a different light, maybe hoping it was more than it was. Relationships are a bitch sometimes. Other individuals may decide they are gay based on their sexual attraction to people of their own sex (As Boy George obviously did). The problem is doubt, and that it's one persons word against another (regardless of what you believe); It means we can't know... only gossip/guess, or choose to believe one party over the other. As a boy I never knew, with certainty, because love and sexuality are mixed up emotionally. Being able to fall in love with people of your own sex doesn't make you gay. Although our society is generally scared that loving someone of your own sex does make you gay. Which is why men are scared of physical contact outside of sport/fighting.. but as the only ones put it 'I love my mother but I wouldn't want to have sex with her'... or sex doesn't mean love, and love doesn't mean sex. If you never wondered about your own sexuality you probably aren't even human. I fell in love with a man I adored.. he was (or appeared to be) everything I wanted to be (good looking, confident, self assured, and happy).. but I didn't want to have sex with him.. I think that's when I knew I wasn't gay.. but it helped me recognise this distinction in my confused adolescent mind, and gave me a lot of sympathy for those facing the same difficulties in distinguishing the difference. I never had that problem with being attracted to girls.. but, recognising that sexual desire doesn't equate to love is one reason why many marriages fail. However, this problem, of the dividing line between love and sex, is what messes up most men. Homophobes generally are too scared to admit their own sexual and emotional baggage. They pretend to be macho/real men as a 'mask' for their sexuality. Some cultures (usually steeped in religious intollerance) are worse at this acceptance than others. I know many thugs who used to go 'gay bashing', who ended up coming out as gay, when they were older and less scared of their own shadow. Apparently Saudi Arabia (known for their religious intollerance) have gay porn as their second biggest demand from internet porn sites. I think the content of CZcams comments demonstrate there is a social media pressure to appear to be something you are not in public. 'Impaled upon your mask their delusion is shown'.. Indeed. www.psychologytoday.com/blog/women-who-stray/201606/porn-vs-religion
followed them for a while during 1981 - strange times - great gigs. But not sure about the dodgy German uniforms of followers - still that was the f you punk thing all over. I stuck with studs, dm's and tippex painting of TOH logo on the back of my leather jacket.

Saw them supporting Killing Joke at Jenkinsons bar in Brighton '80 I think. Brilliant! I dunno if Billy 'the kid' Duffy was with them then :)
still think ive got a rusty egan mix on 12" knocking about somewhere , have to dig it out.
Saw them both on a train in Harlesden while I had it playing on my walkman must of been recording the mix that day
I remeber when they wrote this , its a bit Radiohead obviously 'may ' have been an inspiration for Radiohead.
Sounds like a song from a biblical movie
Try this on acid first time around. Yeah. Your mate turns into a massive judge and condemns you to eternal damnation.
Is Billy Duffy on this track?
michael hermanson Steve Guthrie on guitar. Billy Duff replaced him
This is apparently about Boy George. Does anyone know the exact lyrics?
