- We’ve talked about the importance of hearing protection in the past and were fortunate enough to partner up with our friends at EarPeace (our favorite ear plug company) to do so. Today we’re stoked be announcing their new lines of MUSIC PRO ear plugs. These are still incredibly affordable while providing some of the highest quality sound reproduction but at a lower volume level. Both of us have actually been using pre-release versions of these for the last month+ and have been very impressed.

Excellent customer service as well! I ordered the regular size for my ears and when I tried them, they kept falling out fairly quickly. I realized that I needed the smaller size plugs. I contacted Ear Peace and asked if I could return the plugs and get the smaller sizes. The company representative replied very soon and told me to keep the pairs that I had purchased, and they would send me the smaller sizes for no cost other than shipping. Fantastic! The new ones fit great and make a huge difference!!
They’re great! That’s another excellent thing about the MUSIC PRO model- they come with both the small and the standard sized plugs so you don’t have to take a chance on knowing which size will fit best.
As someone who has been deaf in one ear since I was 8yo I can honestly tell you that you do NOT want to take ANY chances with your hearing. I've been wearing hearing protection since day one of my drum career. That said I'll have to give these a hard look, since I'm always on the lookout for the next best earplug.
Might aswell buy the 24s for dinners at the inlaws. Lol
And they'll never even know... 😂
Ashamed to say I’ve been one of those drummers that has distanced themselves from ear plugs because of the fidelity concerns and wanting to hear all that is going on with myself and my band mates. Hearing your discussion about this particular brand has convinced me to stop taking my hearing for granted and jump on the earplug bandwagon. Thanks again for another great video!
Just got the EarPeace Music model in from the mail today. So stoked . Thank you for the recommendation Sounds like a Drum!
These seem perfect. I'll definitely be buying a pair within the next year.
So glad you said the case was double ended. Just got mine and was wondering why they dont fit. now sorted thanks.
Thanks! Will buy pair of these ear plugs!)
Great product, I have the regular musician ones but I may just upgrade.
Just ordered a pair. Got 10% off as a new customer. I've been using their other models for years.
These look awesome.
Great video! Buying a set today! I would also like to appreciate how freaking good that snare and KICK sound! 😍😍
Hey Cody, what do you think about walking us through your approach when it comes to snare side head tension vs batter head tension to achieve a good sound? Maybe offer a few tuning samples (say as low as the drum will functionally go, a nice warm fat tone, medium and maybe medium high. Particularly say a 5x14 supraphonic vs a 6.5x14 supraphonic. mute the snare side head and tap the batter and vice versa. I use the ruler method (i’ll never go back). But I’d like to dial in snare side tension and my understanding if it better in relationship to the batter tuning. I know lots of drummers set it and forget it, but I know you dont and I’m interested in your approach!
Good review as always. I have Original Earpeace plugs with the least attenuating "Medium" filters (17dB SNR, 11dB NRR), and I find them to block too much. Hard for me to hear conversation, which is contrary to what everyone says about this type of plug. I have the smalls, because the Standard size just didn't stay in. I'm wondering if I have a weird ear canal? Do these Music Pro models have much less attenuation than the standard? They are rated at 16dB, probably the SNR number...or is their attenuation curve flatter? Thx!
Awesome and useful video, not sure if it's youtube or your export but the quality looks really low even on 1080p
Great video! Thank you! What is this snare? I like it! Also a Pearl Maters Maple Custom (MMX)?
Thanks! Matching snare for the kit. Masters Custom Extra Maple 5.5x14”
Interesting. They’re reasonably priced too. Take care :)
For a rock band studio rehearsal, which attenuation should I go for?
These look great, but I'd wind up only using them when going to concerts, which obviously isn't happening right now. Any time I'm drumming, I'm wearing IEMs.
Very interesting. Sadly their Europe website still doesn't have them in store. Hopefully they will eventually come out. I have eargasm slide and while they are comfortable, they certainly muffle very low and high frequencies.
They were just released this week so hopefully it won’t be long!
I have been looking for earplugs to use during music events and to reduce traffic noise. I have been debating between the Earpeace Standard (pack with three sets of filters for different protection levels) and Music Pro (which I wonder if they would offer enough protection during a concert and at the same time I worry would they might block too much noise out if I use them on the daily). Any advice and recommendations would be super welcome as I cannot seem to be able to find what the Earpeace Standard sound like in any video I've come across so far.
I always catch myself looking at your walnut stave in the background lol
Bit of a distraction, right? That’s actually my Red Rock Drums Fijian Mahogany stave snare. Love that drum! -Ben
Was given a regular set by my uni and they're SUPER! Also, side note, would you guys recommend 14x12 and 16x14 floor toms for rock or would you go with square-sized floor toms? Thanks from over the pond \m/
Right on! I don’t have a strong preference but both my current floor toms are square sizes and Ben’s aren’t and I love them all so I’d say don’t worry about it :) -Cody
@@SoundsLikeADrum Thanks dude! :D
Just ordered a pair with the -19dB filters. I'll come back with an honest review whenever they come in. So far checkout from the site is a bit annoying with all the "coupon offers" and "share with your friends!" popups whenever you place your order.
My thoughts: They sound pretty much the same as a foam plug but fit far better than one. I can't reccomend them at the current price point though. It's sort of annoying they send you 3 plugs. I mean why not just two pairs? Can't say I've ever just lost one plug. Usually I misplace the whole set if I lose them. If they drop the price down to say $10, then they would be worth a buy IMO.
What happened to the review?
@@maeu59 Completely forgot about it! I edited one in.
I assume you've tried the non-fitted Etymotic? They're the best I've tried of the 6 or so brands I've tested out, but I haven't tried the ones you're reviewing in this episode. I'm tempted to order these right now just to see, even though I'd just gotten a replacement pair of Ety's right before covid hit.
These are brand new- just announced this week! Far more comfortable than the Etymotic ones and with a much better frequency response, particularly in the high end. -Ben
@@SoundsLikeADrum Awesome, thanks for the feedback! The hi-hat psssshck is perhaps the thing I miss the most when wearing hearing protection.
do they have the earPeace Kids Pro model? I mean like when you have 4 kids at home and they're all like 120dB each and you're loosing hearing acuity every day a little more and I'm not even talking about them trying to play the drums when your back is turned. god I need something for me not to turn deaf
This may be a slightly silly question but do you tune drums while wearing ear plugs? Wondering if the perception of tone changes significantly or is altered in some way.
I don’t generally but with these plugs it’s more than close enough to do that especially if it’s for a live situation. If it’s a studio thing it’ll normally be quiet enough during setup to not need plugs for any reason 👍🏻 -Cody
Is the high end more accurate with these than with the Earpeace HDs? The HDs live on my keychain, are the most comfortable, and come out when I need the maximal attenuation, but I always found that they took off too much high end compared to the Etymotic ER20XS I prefer to use when playing music.
Yep! Far more accurate (and with greater comfort + isolation) in the high frequency range.
@@SoundsLikeADrum excellent, then I'll definitely try them out in the nearish future!
I know this video is ten months old, but I'm hopeful I'll get a response...
I've seen that anything above 70 dB is when it starts to get harmful, and I've been in the market for getting new ear plugs for concerts. I've also seen that rock concerts are around 115/120 dB, but the highest filter protection for EarPeace is 24 dB, so that would lower it to about 91/96 dB, which is still detrimental to my hearing, no?
So what do you recommend? Are the highest filter still worth it if I go to concerts?
Ive been using EarPeace non pro (and various other ear plug protection from other brands) and even at 19db its more than enough to be at a concert. I personally use 24db and have been front and center at dj shows and it sounds like having headphones in at 50% volume.
Recently purchased the Pros and waiting for them to come in. After your purchase the pros you actually have a chance to purchase a 26db filter in addition to whatever filter you bought.
I'm thinking about getting these earplugs
Get it biddy!!!
After using these for a while do you still recommend the 16 DB for in the house or studio playing?
I have the -19 filters and it's too much for rehearsing. I'd definitely go with the lighter filters if that's what you'll use them for.
I have molded ear plugs. I'd like to know how are these compared to mine, someone that has experience with both, not how are these compared to ear plugs with no filter that muffle everything.
It’s tough to compare something like these to a custom molded set of ear plugs. They’re on different levels.
can this be used for a dj in a club dj booth or a festival stage?
Absolutely!
What is the link to the website? I don’t believe I saw it in the description.

The big BUT for this would be they have not cable. I have being playing for 25 years and in my experience, they are tiny you could easily lost or let them fall while manipulating them during a show
🎶🔥
How much better are they than Vibes?
Not sure how we’d quantify that for you but they’re oval shaped to match the ear canal (Vibes are not), these are designed for musicians rather than being for anyone in loud environments, mesh style filter design allows for ultra-accurate frequency reproduction, and these aren’t nearly as bulky. You can wear them all afternoon and forget you’ve even got them in.
Any differences between the Music Originals and Music Pros?
Yes! We highlighted the details in this video.
Hear that classical musicians? Protect your ears! I'm looking at you violinists, your left ear will thank me later.
