If anyone has a line on an tvOS version of DolphinIOS please let me know
I thought they were shutting down Gamestream and not GeForce Now?
Finally. Ive been requesting this review for quite some time. Thanks man.
Yo ur description link for apple TV wrong man
@@rafaelmenchacajr2824 they are not shutting down GF Now. Maybe it won't be available on the shield anymore, but it will be available on everything else.
The title of the last chapter of the video should read "Provenance".
Can you do a video on how to use AltStore with Apple TV 4K? It would be greatly appreciated!
It's so nice to see how you and your content has evolved the last couple of years, everything from the voice over to the set up to the camera angles, you sound so much more confident and well informed, I hope next year will be just as improving :)
Thank you for making this video! I love my Apple TV and it’s great to see what can be done with it.
Mate it is crazy seeing your channel going from a few hundred subscribers and now near 1,000,000!!!! (crazy) well done you earned it.
Great video! Just bought this same Apple TV. Good to know about the emulation. Loving it all so far especially with all the benefits from then Apple One service!
Can u do a video tutorial on how to install these apps like retroarch?
레트로아크를 설차하고싶습니다 ㅠ
Yes i also need this please!
Yes, upon searching this looks more complicated that it sounded.
Allow to side load? Apple? The words a cold day in Hell come to mind.
they are thinking about free sideloading in i(Pad)OS 17
Really glad to see you checking out this device. i picked up one of these recently as well and the power it has is surprising. I have also been trying to find dolphin. Seems like it would be the most powerful emulation console out there if Apple would open up the software. Fingers crossed that happens due to the new EU laws.
*coughs* Nvidia shield pro *coughs*
@@jimkrom the shield pro is nowhere near the power of the new apple tv, just saying
@@imnotindanger and yet (since the original comment I was answering to was about being the most powerful emulation machine) it is still the most powerful emulation console between those two platforms since Apple, being Apple, has the software closed tight
Xbox Serie X can already emulate Gamecube with Retroarch and Dolphin, and the Wii too.
@@smeyichou3514 PC does that too, hell there's a working (partly working but still, PS4 emulator there), the whole point of the original comment was about those tv boxes and no tv box beats the Nvidia shield for that, still
Huh, I never considered it until now-but I often sit on my couch (in front of my TV with Apple TV) playing Steam Deck, never even considering steaming. I had thought of streaming my desktop to an iPad Pro for easier access, but never actually gaming on the TV. While my 65” 4K screen wouldn’t favor the AAA games experience, but for streaming emulation through Steam Link it’d be perfect. Thanks for the idea!
Personally, its worth getting a long hdmi if you have a dock. But loading the steam deck with a bunch roms and connect a few controllers, playing classic games with friends feels better than ever.
"I gotta say it's actually pretty crazy to be playing cyberpunk 2077 at 120 FPS on an Apple TV
Now given we're streaming from my main gaming PC but I never thought I'd be doing this on an Apple device"
They had us in the first half not gonna lie
The chip couldn't even handle it
Yeah, not crazy at all... streaming it. haha
Glad to see more Apple gear reviewed 👍🏻
If apple allowed other app stores, these Apple TVs would sell like crazy. I’d buy one.
Oh wow! I had no idea they updated the steam link UI. That looks so much better ! I gotta try it now.
Eta.. i have to say that your whole set up and the vibrant color of the video makes me happy.. especially if i watch it in 2K resolution..
*_As a lifetime Apple user, I know “Apple is Apple”, and they tend to do things their own way, for better, for worse… but imagine if they put an M2 chip inside an Apple TV and really focused on making it a AAA gaming machine. 😎_*
Never ever.
m2 is not capable of running games, its weaker than xbox ss and what games youre playing there? apple arcade; a wannabe gamepass?
stop simping to company that doesn't care about you, use it, but don't stick with it.
@@izznazhanzur ong they focus on work not gaming they would get a ton more money if they loaded a PC with M3 gaming + or something
@@Prodbytocile no. it took them years for usb c, they dont care about you. and even that is because eu forced them. wake up kid, world doesn't move like that
Imagine if Valve took the same SoC that's the Series X and PS5 and marketed a home console. Having Apple and Valve to also compete with Microsoft and Sony would be a fever dream
Been doing this for years, even when I had to load Moonlight as a Dev, the AMD streaming app is also really good.
We need an M1 version of the Apple TV to enter Emu nirvana. I can play switch, psp, ps2, and other high end systems on my Mac Studio but being able to play them on my 77" OLED on my couch would be a dream.
It would be sick to see Ryujinx make its way over here. After seeing how well the M1 chips can handle it. I’m curious if the A15 could too
It definetly could. There's already Skyline on android that works pretty well, even on phones much less powerful than the iphone 13 lineup. Apple is just way too locked down for this
As a rough level, this A15 Device is about as fast as the Valve SteamDeck. So it should be able to do all the emulation from Atari to the PS Vita.
It gets a bit tricky with the higher end systems like Xbox 360, PS3, and WiiU. Going even further above to the Switch wouldn't normally be possible to emulate, but since both systems share very similar code (ARM) it's likely to be able to emulate it half decent, especially with the way Skyline is progressing.
Holy crap! I somehow missed that you could do this! This is... so exciting. BG3 on the big screen here I come lol I actually have the OG steam link and loved it but it didn't age well.
@ETAPRIME thanks for your review! I have several Apple TVs and have been using them for awhile but I had no idea all of this was possible tvOS.
Nvidia isn't removing GeForce now, they are removing Gamestream which is the backend (software that runs on your desktop) for in home streaming with something like moonlight. Gamestream is ending but an open source alternative called Sunshine is up to par now. I've switched over from Gamestream to Sunshine full time rather than waiting for Gamestream to suddenly disappear without a solution.
Reeeaaally wish you'd test moonlight on all the devices you review. Information on how well Moonlight works on various devices is hard to come by and given how many devices you go through it would really help. You even had it installed 😭
That would be nice. I've been surprised by how much moonlight latency varies on different devices. On steamdeck and shield tv it blew me away but on my fire hd 10 it's close but definitely worse. Is sunshine really up to par with moonlight now?
Sunshine sadly is not up to par yet, at least with a Windows server-side :(
@@Girvo747 I'm running a nightly build from 4n days ago. 4k, 100mbps. Host is on Ethernet and client is on wifi 6. Runs buttery smooth.
@@jjbeast102699 sunshine doesn't replace moonlight. You'd still use moonlight on your client devices.
The big difference is decoding time for the stream. For 4k streams Steam Deck decodes a frame in 0.5ms. Shield does it in 2ms. My nuc does it in 1ms. Fire TV 4k max does it in 7ms. My phone does it in 10ms. My Chromecast does it in 12ms. And so on.
That's the difference you're feeling and unfortunately it's largely a function of the device hardware. Moonlight can't improve on it. You just need to pick the best device for your own needs.
/@@mechanicalmonk2020 are there any benchmarks on this where I can see which device would be best for streaming?
Thanks for this video it so helpful
The Apple TV is awesome. I’ve been happily using the same Apple TV HD since 2015 on my 2010 Samsung 1080p LED. I have no complaints. I can watch all my movies and TV shows and it gets regular updates. Eventually when the TV gives out I’ll make the switch to 4K or whatever is top tier level at the time. 😂
Same here
It’s not the cheapest thing ever but it’s been lasting 7 years now which makes it good value for me
And it’s still getting the latest updates
Thanks for the video. Hope you have a great new year. For the money and lack of psp and game cube emulation you may as well get an rp3 plus. I have a Steam deck so no need for this. If it had more io and not such a locked down system it could have been good to use in son's room where he has original game cube /PS2 and 3 Xbox one consoles. Maybe a mini pc is the way to go
In the EU Apple has been told now to support third party app stores and side loading. Apparently it is being worked on now.
Bro I love your videos
Can you redo the iPad Pro M2 now that it supports Screen Sharing? Would love to see how games like Genshin Impact do when outputting on a monitor or TV screen.
Great video! Question though: to play games via steamlink on the AppleTV, is your controller connected to your pc or to the appletv?
I had no idea you could do this w Apple TV!Im super excited to get one now and two x box remotes! It will be fun to play the games I grew up on w the kids in the living room!
how much better is this than the older gen 4Ks? I think i have a first gen myself. wonder if it would be worth upgrading
Bro thanks so much been looking for this
How did you sideload Retroarch on there? You said via Altstore, but Im not even sure where to get that installed
I’ve been looking around as well. Did you find something?
I think he used Xcode. I haven’t been able to sideload Provenance thru Xcode, but that’s one of the ways you can do that officially as Provenance recommends.
you need a pc or mac to sideload it from
I find these videos more of a show off and not tutorials. It’s like he gives you half the story.
Unfortunately you did not explain how to side load Altstore to the Apple TV, I have seen steps to load on iphone, but not Apple TV. Could you possibly list steps to install for Apple TV? Thanks
Awesome vid. I didn't even know there was an TVOS version of SteamLink lol. For sure going to try some emulators.
Another great video ETA. I love the cold opens.
Given the storage constraints and the inability to run anything newer than n64, would it work better to run retroarch on your pc then connect via steam link? Would the latency ruin the controls?
Provenance is getting Wii and GameCube support soon.
I got one for my 8 year old for Christmas and he loves it.
Great content ... thx for sharing!
@ETAPRIME quería consultarte si crees que haya un rendimiento similar en el apple TV 4k 2021, soy consiente de que el A15 biónica es más potente que el A12 bionic, pero me gustaría saber tu opinión al respecto, desde ya muchas gracias!
Hi Prime! Why not use a screen capture for this video?
Its a bit difficult for me to see the details on the screen since its zoomed out
ETA: I have no interest in Apple products.
Wife: That sounds like a good gift idea.
Hi ETA, what’s the brand of the gaming controller on the thumbnail? Great video!! Thanks
Hello and congratulations for the video but how did you install Retroarch on the device?
Do you have a guide teaching how to install retroarch on newer apple TVs?
Yeah we need a guide on how to do the install/signing and all that. He didn’t explain and there’s nothing in the description. There’s info on the internet but I’d trust ETA’s guide more.
@ETA Prime, If you have an iPhone, give airplay a go, you can play your mobile games directly on the big screen and if your on Wifi 6 there is no lag that I can detect, its far better than the Android equivalent.
I use my Apple TV to mirror my phone on some stuff. Recently I have been playing lunar silver star touch with its new update that offers ps4 controller support and a bunch of options for visuals like Saturn or psx style as well as some new audio options. I know it's not the same but it's commendable to see a dev team still updating a ten year old release
Genshin Impact is it possible?
The UI is so smooth and satisfying on Apple TV. I wonder if it will allow side-loading as the iPhone will in the EU next year.
I 100% think they're going to introduce some bullshit that'll allow them to get out of this. An iron grip on what the user is allowed to do is Apple's whole brand.
@@mechanicalmonk2020 the only thing tighter than my gorilla grip is apple's hold on what users can do
I have like 4 other Apple TV 4th gens and got the new 4K for Christmas. Had no idea the difference would be this noticeable
great vid, thanks
Nvidia isn't discontinuing GeforeNow on the Shield TV...they are ending GameStream. It's a totally different stream service.
It's not a service. It's all on your local network. Which tells you why they are ending it.
@@estusflask982 Yup, they're keeping the service that they can charge you for.
Which were one of the checkboxes I ticked for reasons to get an Nvidia card.
Great video. Any chance you can make a video on installing Amiga on Apple TV RetroArch. That would be super
Can you do a quick vid on how you got RetroArch running please? I tried but nothing loaded because I think the OOTB settings had the cores in the wrong location but I could be wrong.
I currently use an RPi 4 for retro games and watching videos. I’m firmly in the Apple ecosystem though and if the Apple TV can play retro games, might get one
I have never saw a Apple TV review and it’s a good review
Hi man, thanks for the video. Could I ask you how you install RetroArch on your Apple TV? Thanks
Nice video 👍
Impressive performance
Kindest regards, neighbours and friends.
You made a Typo. For the storage option, you put 1280 GB not 128 GB.
I was hoping you'd open it up to see if there is a way to make user upgrades to it.
Just out of curiosity, how much more powerful is this compared to the Nintendo switch? I’m not familiar with the Nintendo switch specs.
Dude im sold on this. I didnt understand why id need it since ive got a nice lg smart tv and a ps5. But using media apps (and even having a blu ray in my ps5) makes both systems CRAWL so slowly its painful! I think i get it, this device is the answer to those problems and seeing how it can handle some native light gaming and emulation, im all in dude! I will probably load it up with classic JRPG's and just lay in bed on work nights grinding away
i am also intested in the steam link
Thank you!
is there any tutorial we can follow to install retroarch and the other emulators on the apple tv like you have just did ?
What's the router that you're using? Is it a Mesh Wifi set up or DIY as in setting up AP's?
Good evening. Please, on AppleTv 4K 3 Gen, is it possible to install via App Store or some emulator, the game Coin Master? Thank you very much! I'm sorry for my English.
Sunshine works great on the pc host I've switched since hearing Nvidia will be shutting down geforce streaming. You can run the service that will always be up on the hosts boot!!
I didn't want to get an Apple TV but after watching this video I am very tempted especially since it is barely over $100. Do you need to buy a monthly subscription?
What do you mean by "side loading"? You had to add RetroArch, but a "side load"; I really wish you would have showed that.
I enjoy Apple Arcade on my Apple TV. Fantasian is fantastic. The cool thing is if you use a DualSense you’ll be able to actually customize the controller altogether. You can set up a profile, give each INDIVIDUAL game a specific color on the LED, the buttons I believe as well can be customized. You can do more with the dualsense on Apple TV than you currently can on the ps5. The only thing missing is the headphone jack actually being usable on it.
Fantasian is the only game decent on Apple Arcade tho otherwise it’s not really worth it
@@robmalcolm8042 In your opinion*
@@simon4512 goes without saying.
Nba 2k is pretty dope
From your experience and what you see in the "emulation community", is the tvOS user base substantial enough to support people spending time to create and maintain emulators for it? You seem to think it's powerful enough, it's odd that we don't see those other emulators already created...
Does the information in this video also apply to the last version of the AppleTV 4K?
Please do a another video on the Onexplayer 2
Thanks for the video! Is it possible to install alt store on an Apple TV 4K (no usb slot) with a windows pc ? Unfortunately it can only find steps explaining on how to do it with a Mac… thanks a lot !
Doesn’t the sideloaded stuff only stay on your device for a week until you re-sign it?
That’s what i just found, unless you pay a fee then it’s yearly.
This video made it seem like you could just dl retro arch or provanence and play…but it’s a little more complicated than that sadly.
Please do a video on how to install AltStore on the 2022 Apple TV 4K! 😁
We’re you playing Cyberpunk via SteamLink? I’ve had issues with that where I can’t use the option button as it tries to pull up the SteamLink menu instead of the in-game control. Same with Snowrunner. Considering setting up project moonlight because of that issue.
Are ya able to cast game from the phone while connecting to a console controller?
And is it also possible to stream a consle instead of a pc?
I have a question: If you have steam loaded on your linux machine and some of the games that you have in the library are windows only, are you able to stream those games over said PC to the Apple TV or is that a no go?? TLDR: Will it stream your whole library over a linux box?
yes it will. steam link supports streaming from any steam client to any steam link client (which is built in on apple tv as well as regular desktop steam. even on linux and hence steam deck)
@@EugeneYunak I thank you for the heads up good sir!!! 😊
I bought one on day one and I could never get the Wi-Fi connection to work right on Steam Link so I had to return it I’m surprise you were able to stream without issues. I might have to go out and buy it again 😂
What other remotes you can use? I don’t feel like buying an expensive Xbox controller just to use on my Apple tc
Could you teach me how you install retroarch and other emulator on Apple TV and import game to emulator, i have Apple TV 4K 2021...Thanks
When you sideload retro arch, do you have to keep renewing every 7 days like on the iPhone or will it permanently be installed?
When sideloading the apps, do you have to reside load them every 7 days?
woah . I didn't know about steam on Apple TV!
Thanks
Why would you not show us how to do this? Can you do a video showing us how to sideload or install RETROARCH on an Apple TV? Please & Thank u
Does it have any input delay or controller latency issues when using retroarch? Firestick just doesn’t work well for me using Bluetooth controllers

Can you use keyboard and mouse to play games via steam mirroring? For games like dota 2 and CS.

@etaprime Are there instructions on how to side load apps onto the Apple TV 4K?
I stumbled on this recently but due to the limited space on these appletv devices, is there a way to store the library on a network or external drive?
Hi can we use it browse Internet?
I believe that some new EU laws will force Apple to be more tolerant to side loading on at least phones and stuff. I wonder if this will translate to the TV or how it will translate at all. Hopefully it works out for emulation!
Yup. True. That law went into effect in November. Apple has until March 6 2024 to comply.
Any advice on getting retroarch installed on an Apple TV? I can't figure it out.
What's the process to install those emulators?
Does it have Remote Play for PlayStation?
