I love the concept of him using the same words in multiple songs. because that is his world. we all have certain issues or things that are in our daily lives. that we cant eacape. but it also m8ght be little jabs at his ex girlfriends that im assuming used to say he has boney knees. this band is doing things other bands cant do.

honestly I love the sleepy eyes and bony knees. It's just their signature. kind of like how shitty rap artists use "bang bang" and "lace up" . at least Real Friends is using a beautiful line instead of something dumb .
I don't mind the sleepy eyes or bony knees. But when you guys act like you have to add it into the songs, it kind of mashes things up in a way they shouldn't be mashed up. But regardless of that nonsense, I love this.
In Pop Punk, anytime someone hears "bony knees" or "sleepy eyes" they think of Real Friends. It's just their distinguishing feature. It's their thing

How many times have they used the phrase "bony knees"?
When I heard the ETDYH EP and heard "sleepy eyes and bony knees" in 2 of the 5 songs, I thought "Okay, I can deal with that. I really hope it's not in other songs though, 2 is enough songs for the same line to be in" then I listened to the EP This is Honesty and heard it in another song and thought "wellllllllll....." and now I'm kind of disappointed that I've just heard it in two songs of the new EP. It's a great line, yes, but I feel it's far overused now.

im a huge mayday fan and i dont see that. i would love if they did have a backup singer. but mayday (derek) has a much cleaner voice and their lyrics arent as straight forward as real friends. two completely different styles. both great.
Actually, to me, I think Real Friends has a unique sound that is not similar to Mayday Parade's. The vocals are different and RF is "heavier" I guess. (Not in the metal type of heavy, but yeah)
I do agree in some ways but Dan's vocals are more raw
This is old as shit lol but if you get this, i've been listening to the 2 side by side and learning em. Mayday is def. cleaner, I think because he stays in range more, Real Friends vocals are like a 5th above Mayday's on some songs. Real friends is so damn high they need to auto-tune his voice on stuff like floorboards, it sounds BADASS imo but I'd love to hear him try it live. As far as how much I like the bands, they're both equally awesome in my book just different approaches. And lyrically they are really similar.

I get how the sleepy eyes etc thing is repetitive and how people are annoyed. Sure it's their "signature," but the last two lines are from hebron. You cant keep using the same lyrics over new instrumentals. I love these guys but really.
No you're right, we can only say a phrase once and then it loses all meaning. Better start destroying every record, deleting every song, and burning every book... until we get down to the very first times phrases appeared. It's just a shame we can't get down to the first person who uttered the exact words.
