You pushed me over the edge when I was looking for a Star Citizen setup, convinced me to pick up some Virpil hardware. I’m glad you did, they have been just what I was looking for and all the pros and cons you mentioned were bang on. Thank you for the honest and accurate reviews, helped me make an informed choice!
Can i ask if you ever had a problem with the left "brake lever" axis being reversed? That is having a 100% output when in normal position and 0% when pulled?
@@Resmarax I haven’t had that particular issue, no. I do have a similar problem with the Mongoost-50 throttle’s linear lever, but I’m reasonably sure you can reverse the input in the VPC software. I fixed it a while ago and need to do it again on my new system but haven’t quite got around to it. I ended up replacing my Delta stick and throttle with two Alphas (and throttle for minor controls), though understandably it doesn’t play quite as much of a role when both hands are on the sticks. Have to say, even between the Delta and Alpha, VirPil have come a long way. Better quality all around now.
@@SafetyRabbit I've never had any virpil controls before, but I'm glad I got into "the game" now with the alphas and not sooner. I really do think they are perfect for a space sim. I got the cosmos cams as well. In regards to the issue I have, I have looked around for a way to invert the input, but nothing. Found an inversion tick box in axis in the vpc software, but it didn't seem to do anything, even for the right stick which is in working order.
@@SafetyRabbit oh, i just figured it out. If i ticked the inversion box nothing would happen UNTIL i recalibrated the stick. The more you know.
The Alpha looks like a dream space sim stick. Looking forward to your review.
Glad VPL's finally addressing the issue . That and dodgy cables are the reasons i went with the new VKB spacesim controllers instead.
I'm just as excited as everyone else to use this new grip, yet here I'm mostly surprised to see no comments on how concisely you've explained the the set up process!
You can be sure this video will spike in popularity when people get ahold of their shipments.
Superb work, Noobifier.
Virpil's configuration software seems to be their biggest drawback, but no longer has to be when there's content like yours - Headache Averted 💦
You definitely have my attention now! This looks very promising. Thank you for the update, Noobifier.
I waited a couple years b4 making the jump to virpil. Started to have such a blast in Star Citizen ( b4 dogfighting got watered down and autoaim) and had to invest in virpil ,they are pricey but comparing them to Saitek being 150-200 for some garbage hotas the extra money is certainly put into the product.. the consistent and smooth travel in the joystick alone is worth it to me rather than those cheap spring puck type that once spring is compressed the stick flops around. Virpil did so damn good with these sticks that I feel I don't have any games that stack up to be worthy of playin with these things lol
DCS world might be worthy XD
I would love to see you do a video on exactly how to bind keys to the Virpil Delta and Alpha grips in Star Citizen. SC has SO many confusing actions to bind. I think a lot of us would benefit from a nice step by step guide. Thx keep up the great work.
Just got a mongoose cm3 base with a alpha prime left stick with z extension, amazing quality.
You should do a setup tour with an brief explanation of why you chose to mount it that way.
I think it would be pretty nice to have an example of how someone else did it and be able to say "that makes sense" or "I'd prefer X to be like Y instead" and such.
Even if it was a shorter video
I plan to do just that video. Please activate alerts so you don’t miss out
@@NOOBIFIER1337 oh wow, fast reply!
That's good to hear, I look forward to it.
Started with Double T16000, still have those
Now waiting more review and money to buy two of these :D
Virpil might be the best Joystick brand as of today
Patiently waiting for 📦 in February.
I definitely used Christmas gift money from the wife and in-laws to snag some Virpil hardware and Monstertech mounts based on your detailed videos over the past year.
Well done Noob,we were missing guides like this...It will help us avoid the frustration of navigating the software.
HavocCompanyClan has a number of invaluable (at least to me) videos on the Virpil software and getting going. They were invaluable and first time mucking around went smooth for me as a a result.
I look forward to Noobifier adding to the collection, maybe some more interesting/in-depth config topics (in a few mins of course).
I am waiting for the alpha review from you since it was announced!
I am excited to see what they have made for us
Hallelujah, Christmas in early January! I'd given up on the proprietary software and just had both Sticks and a M50 throttle box bound as one giant WinJoy controller thingamabob... Worked well enough to get everything except the bottom dials and the sticks two mouse wheels bound. Thanx Noob!
1 year with my dual Delta+ Warbrd. No issues on grips, also i´ve discover today the triger has adjustment :0. But the Warbrb bases started to fail a fwe days ago. Virpil has sent me 2 cables to reclace in the bases, There are some people on forums with same issue. But overall i feel so happy with them, thanks for the recommendation last year
At least they are answering and replacing. How hard was it to get support and how quickly did they respond?
@@NOOBIFIER1337 24h only to get an answer. Seems so easy to replace , but still waiting for the tracking number. No problem at all since this patch is horrible to play and im not playing ED anymore..
Got it! They´ve sent me the tracking number. Im really impressed it will arrive in 5 days only!
@@SweetoothDS Nice
Thanks Noob. Waiting for my delivery
Slowly putting together my Star Citizen controller build, based pretty much off your reviews. I'll have to drop you some pictures once I'm done!
Still Love my Virpils. Thanks Noob
Mayhaps is time to switch ?
I still come back to your videos, despite their age. I'd love to see/hear your thoughts on the additional functions of the software in 2023, as I see items here that could use some explanation, such as the mysterious "Shift Setup" amongst other items within the new(er) Prime grip ecosystem.
*AWESOME!* Thank you Noobifier! I just got my VIRPIL VPC MongoosT-50CM2 Base in the mail with my grip dust cover. Waiting for the Alphas to hit next month to grab one and am still working on my custom desk mounts. This video will help me setup my grip when I get one in. Appreciate your dedication and no nonsense approach.
Nice! I’ll be sending people this way if they ask me about Virpil setup procedures.
Thanks for that, I do the same for updated bindings sir
That alpha looks fantastic. i think im sold on that one. Thanks for the infos.
Have mine on pre-order since they announced it. Same for the vfx grip (I fly the tomcat I DCS) it is s/n 005
How did you get a pre-order? I haven't found any way to do one.
They had a limited pre order when they announced it back in October I believe
@@willhartsell2283 Ah... damn, missed it.
Thanks for the video Noob.
Cheer for the update looking forward to next one
Dood... I love the Mazda Protege shrine! I still have my 99 1.8 ES (now with a boosted 2.0, and loads of aftermarket kit)
your setup is killer!
if only they were in stock, been waiting to buy a set for a while.
Please look for the "Restock Schedule" it will tell you exactly when you need to be on line to buy. They sell out quickly.
I've had mine for a few years and just updated the software and firmware this month. It was a huge upgrade, they did a very good job.
Thanks noob :) I could never get that thumb wheel to work on my warbird. The hat buttons can come off with little reason. The push function works only most of the time. Feels a lot cheaper than the price tag. My vkb kosmosimas a vastly better .The virpil gimbal is nice though and I can use it with my Hog stick. The new virpil stick does look interesting. Though Ill stick to my VKB now.
That’s a shame, I assume you had contacted them about the issues. Sounds to me like they should replace the delta grip for a new one.
I dont know if it is a topic you would be willing to tackle, but I would love a deep dive about how to access and bind some of the things in SC that arent directly available through the menus. I know its possible, as I have seen others bing axis to button inputs and vice versa. I love my twin delta sticks, but there are some things within SC that leave me wanting more binding options that are beyond my current knowledgebase.
I’ll have a look
If possible I would love if you could order a pair without telling/giving away who you are. I'm pretty certain that they send reviewers like you ones where the quality insurance is much higher than what they ship to the general public. I own several virpil products and although I like them it's clear that their quality assurance needs to be better. On something like my deltas the 5way thumbswitches aren't aligned the same way, some are horizontal while some are slanted. The seam in the body of the grip is not flush on one of the grips. The shipping for returning the sticks for repairs can often be close to what a new stick costs so they really need to be better.
Thanks for the Joysticks infos you do btw love my KVB cus of you
time to be picking a setup for myself,ty great informative videos,i it will help me alot
Let me know when The RGB NoobSkull 3d printed shell ready. And i will order mine ASAP.
Been looking at this, but not sure if I feel like switching from my kosmosima
dont do it. kosmosima is the king.
thank you for your video. Great job. The Delta have a Z-axis for space games, but the ALPHA grip have a Z-Axis too?
Yes
I eagerly await your constellation alpha review once you get them in your hands
Slick grips! I don't pay attention to Virpil, but those alpha sticks are sexy
If they keep this up I'll have to pick up a set myself
How quiet is that turntable?
Deadly STEALTH
I have dual Deltas, but am seriously considering switching one of them to an Alpha. That's one sick stick.
It would seem to offer some great functionality and should work very well paired with a delta.
One thing I'd like though is a slider, dial, wheel, or lever on the joystick akin to a throttle control (i.e., absolute instead of relative, and stays where you put it instead of momentary). It would be super handy to have something like that on a joystick - I would use it as a mining throttle, or if I had two sticks with that feature, I'd use one as a mining throttle and the other as speed limit. This way I could mine/fly more effectively without having to use relative momentary controls, or taking my hand off the stick to use a separate throttle. I would use this all the time.
Virpil are you listening?? :-)
I found instructions (though outdated) on page 14 in the Virpil manual for changing the scroll wheel setup so as to bind it to a virtual axis. It's an encoder, not true analog, so it's binding what are effectively button presses to an axis. To make it work, I bound physical buttons 1 (scroll up) and 2 (scroll down) as virtual buttons, then created a virtual axis. Some details...I had to bind those buttons in opposite order to the axis, so button 1 was set to decrease the axis value, and button 2 to increase it, because the inversion settings didn't work in the VPC software or in game. For the axis, I set it to no center, with a range of 0-100, and a step value of 64. Finally you have to bind a button to center the axis, or it will center whenever you stop moving the scroll wheel. Virpil recommends binding physical button 3 (scroll push), but I wanted to use that button for other purposes, so I bound the center function to non-existent button 26.
The above setup more or less works, though the axis value starts out a little wonky and sometimes resets to center. I'll keep experimenting on that. Also there seems to be support for a response curve, so you should be able to make it more sensitive as it approaches zero, but I couldn't really tell if it was working or not.
[question] with the new flight model, how have you set up your left stick? i have a hard time finding an intuitive setup for me, to control speed and acceleration.... and it really wasnt a problem in the old model.
I have the adjustments on a hat switch and everything set as before
I don't know what is but my analog stick won't map properly and just lights up the same numbers as the scroll wheel on my Delta.
I'm waiting my pair !!! So impatient :)
I'll probably try to make and 100% HOSAS configuration, even on foot ! just for fun :)
I swear if I ever see you in game. I will be getting a crime stat!!
You won’t. My game name is hidden
You are costing me money lol
I'd love of pair of Virpil sticks, maybe someday.
Nice. I just got my base and MT50 today. I need to see about how you can invert the X and Y axis as I've got it mounted to the Monstertech Simrig so its rotated 180 degrees out from the norm.
You should be able to click a tab in the VCP software to achieve that sir.
@@NOOBIFIER1337 Do you know if that's the intended function of the "Signal" option? I tried switching that one but it didn't seem to work.
Thanks in advance.
Paying for quality is ALWAYS a good decision.
3:20 My Z axis shows 100 percent when centered. Any Idea how to change it?
I'd really like to know how to put the scroll wheel on the delta to some use. It would be great if I could bind that to my thrust(right alt scroll), or maybe even zoom (f+scroll).
Too bad I missed the pre-order by one day. I sent a support ticket to check if I could pre-order anyway, but after 49 days I still haven't received a reply ... This makes me a bit worried about support.
I guess I'll order one in february/march. The stick, base and mount will end up costing me about €550 with customs (25%) and shipping (Norway), so two would be too expensive. Guess I will be using a Constellation Alpha and Microsoft Sidewinder FF2 combo.
This current generation of Virpil products is exciting. I cant wait to get both the Alpha grip and the new throttle! Funny how Virpil went overkill on the slew controllers (the mini stick) once the community let them know we needed it. Now both the throttle AND the sticks are getting it!
It's a little sad to me that a company listening to their customers is considered exemplary in this day and age, but they do, so they have my business anytime I need a product they produce.
There is something to be said for a company who makes what we want.
where did you get the stand for mounting everything ?
Cool setup.
It turned out well. Thanks
With Virpil, if I just need a stick - do I simply buy a base and a grip? The modular component thing confuses me.
You buy a top and bottom separately yes.
i hope to see you in dcs world as well apart from star citizen
I play DCS all the time
@@NOOBIFIER1337 have you chosen what you are getting for dcs world sale until 18th of may i well see in dcs world alot then until SC is in a better place 3.9 patch is promising my fav plane is f-14 in dcs world as well noob
I'm having a problem where I don't stop rolling in star citizen. My roll is bound to right stick twist and BOTH of my sticks and their twists don't read 50%. Left stick reads 54% but fluctuates higher and my right stick reads 34% but fluctuates higher. I have virpil alpha primes. Also wondering if I'd need to calibrate the large brake trigger that sits behind your knuckles.
Calibrate in VPC software and try again.
Looks promising.
Do you use the mini thumb stick for anything in Star Citizen? THX.
I have dual sticks. On the left stick I have main engines on the Y axis (forward/back), yaw on the X axis, and vertical & strafe thrusters on the mini stick. I use that for maneuvering during takeoff and landing.
On the right stick, I have pitch & roll on the main axes, and the camera view bound to the mini stick, but I never use that. This setup works pretty well for me.
Very helpful. Thanks.
I'd love to see a video on your rig, how did you come about choosing that design? Is it monstertech, or did you fabricate it yourself? Very interesting, looks very effecient and functional.
Brandon Rhymer it’s MonsterTech and My design. I proposed an idea and they said they could build it. I plan to make a video this week on it so stay tuned
Awesome. Will you review the alpha grip?
Jeff Hardy I hope they offer
YES MA MAN
YOU GOT EM
Watched Video, you didnt :( , but a good video thx
One of these days I'll make the jump to a pair of these...
Partly waiting on Star Citizen evolution to justify further investment.
Agreed right now SC in no state to justify spending any money on other products... yet
Do you play anything else? I do, and not flight games. I've found that Joy2Key is great for letting me bypass the keyboard in a bunch of stuff. So HOSAM for those non-flight games. Anyway, just saying that I've found my left-hand Delta has a good ROI.
@@AyarARJ I don't currently play anything else that would require dedicated flight controls.
I have been thinking about the latest flight sim from Microsoft.
does the CM2 stick have any LED lighting or do I have to fabricate my own? It's not a problem if so, I just want to make sure.
Harpoon_Bakery no led on CM2 grip
@@NOOBIFIER1337 ok, thanks. yea, this is a serious stick. I don't think most serious sticks have them anyway. I'm used to my X52-Pro (Saitek) having lights all over it. I need to get that mentality wiped out of my head. Serious sticks will probably NEVER have LED lights and thanks again Noobifier!.
thank you!
Just need to win the lotto to be able to buy this, man its expensive.
waiting for alpha. i hope they will come sooooon
Very nice!
Cheers.
.... what if the buttons aren't registering.
Remove the grip and reinstall. It’s likely the wire came loose.
These products look pretty great. I am still looking forward to the Alpha.
What's the real world time expectation of them having products in stock?
Been thinking about them
I don’t understand. I was using Warthog Hotas fine without software, no Target, no CH Manager.... so when Windows recognizes these devices, their hats, slides... everything... and I can bind the controls directly in the game... why do we need to f with software?
I’m about to swap out to virpil gear sitting in box and seeing this video with jaw dropped. Software? Why? Does it run in background using resources?
Their software lets you configure and then you don’t use it. Very simple.
TheNOOBIFIER1337 For what purpose? Wondering ... Don’t the devices work in Windows joy.cpl and then directly in game key binding. Like Warthog does? Is it programming behaviors within the devices outside of game control?
Do you recommend the VCP's for first time users(first HOTAS)?
I only recommend Virpil if it is within a normal budget for the buyer. It is some of the best
@@NOOBIFIER1337
Well i spend 5x more on my racing wheel/pedals. so... :/
Initial its a bit more then i wanted to pay.
But i want a decent build HOTAS. Thrustmaster, Logitech, Saitek all look nice for a first HOTAS. But all have some problems with build quaility and in relation to how much it cost these times.
Warthog was a good option between high-end and low-budget. but it has no twist. So there is not much out there.
But for a first time user i am little scared of the software...also i am not sure when they can deliver a order and how thrustworhty they are.
Software is easy. I have a video for that setup
oh i FOund it ! :)
Hey guys new to the Flight games. Im looking for something to play War thunder and flight simulator.. any suggestions would help thanks great video Also
I preordered 2 constellation alphas.. I forgot what they look like though haha. These are the constellation alpha?
Yes.
I need to offer an alternative view. I recently received my new Constellation Delta grip and WarBRD base. The base is fine, but the grip is not. Two of the three hat switches do not work.
Update: I initially filed a regular support ticket, but Virpil was slow to respond. Then I closed that ticket and opened a warranty ticket and they got back to me right away.
I will edit this comment as the support process progresses. I don't want to leave a bad review out here if the resolution is effective. The analog axes are great, but I need those buttons!
I imagine that shutting down for the holidays has had a negative effect on your support ticket
@@NOOBIFIER1337 That's a good point. I am too accustomed to the U.S. nose to the grindstone approach where a holiday is a one or two day affair. It may well be that they have a proper holiday with a week or two off; if so good on them, and I'll chill in the meantime.
My points about quality control stand though. A basic quality assurance test would have caught this immediately.
Again, I'll follow up when I find out if it's a hardware or software issue. It certainly presents like a hardware problem, but there have been button glitches with the Constellation Delta with previous firmware versions. We'll see...
When will Virpil release the constellation alpha?
Feb
Few months with my t16000m dual sticks and... Well... The alpha might be mine!! ;)
This messy software application is the reason I do not use my Virpil stick and throttle. Yeah it does the job of detecting and calibrating your hardware, but offers no option at all to program keyboard imputs to the buttons. I am aware there are third party apps that let you do this, but at the price Virpil charge for their hardware, decent software should be included as standard, and not considered an optional extra.
In my experience, when you add too much complexity, it stops being able to do the normal stuff with perfect reliability
@@NOOBIFIER1337 Well In my experience Thrustmaster's T.A.R.G.E.T never added ANY complexity to my Warthog HOTAS, nor did the software, (who's name escapes me), that came bundled with my Saitek X52 way back in the day. I am quite frankly astounded that Virpil have neglected this. Everyone's blown away by the build quality and the appearance of the hardware, but I remain unimpressed until they get this sorted. Keep up the good work by the way.
Interesting...but expensive
Dear NOOBIFIER,
My name is Dante, and i have been trying to buy the virpil controls since forever, i wanted to pre order them but wasn't able to afford them then.
