  • In this video Dan takes some left over parts and combines them with some new parts to create an SKX007 build with an OEM SAMURAI dial and some SNZF17 hands. Also experimenting with grinding down a turtle chapter ring, before ultimately finding a proper one made for an SKX case.

    UPDATE: I've have cut a new stem for this watch. And now the watch operates and winds perfectly without problems. The S also aligns nicely. The final stem length after filing and cleaning any burrs was 14.52mm. I even used Loctite to secure it this time.

    I definitely appreciate these long form videos. They say a fool learns from his own mistakes; the wise learn from the mistakes of others. You are making us wise, and for that i am grateful. Will be starting my first build soon (still selecting and ordering parts), so I'm learning as much as possible before i start.

    My friend, I suggest you give-up on the dial-dots (adds height to dial, a prob with any hour or GMT hand) and use very small dabs/smears of E6000 or G-S Hypo! Love your builds.

    A great video, well filmed and some good techniques discussed. On the crown and stem I always use Loctite and do fit the stem into the crown as far as it will go. Holding the stem with some pliers and then test fitting the crown before measuring the amount to cut is helpful. I found this out when making the mistake of holding the stem and crown in my fingers and then not screwing the crown as far as it can go. It is difficult to tell if the crown is fully in when holding it with your fingers. The rest of the measuring and filling is much easier if the potential for this mistake is taken out of the equation.

    Well done👏👏. Personally, I really enjoy the long format style, that you've utilized, in this particular build. I would imagine, that by grinding down and reducing the thickness of the chapter ring, you'd also be reducing the distance between the dial, and the underside of the crystal. As well as, increasing the distance between the top of the rotor, on the back of the movement, and the underside of the crystal, of the exhibition caseback. I'm guessing that you realized this though, hence why you wound up, eventually purchasing and installing, the "SKX designed" chapter ring. I find false advertising, to be thoroughly annoying. I really like the addition, of the knurled crown and bezel, to the build. The application, of the red paint coating, to the tip of the second hand, was sheer genius. Continuity of design, tying the dial, and chapter ring together. The same applies to the dial choice. The texture of the dial pairs nicely, w/ the knurled texture of the bezel and crown. Just a very "smart" looking design aesthetic, I feel. Really looking forward to the next one. Here's wishing you all the best, Steve. Cheers....

    I know it's a small thing, but I love how just that touch of paint on the second hand brought the build together. I think I might have chosen an enamel paint over acrylic (just less possibility of it flaking) but it's crazy how that small detail changed the look.

    • @ItsAnotherWatch
      @ItsAnotherWatch  Před 2 lety +5

      I'm glad you think so! I would have opted for enamel paint too, but I just used what I had on hand. If necessary, I can always dip it in acetone to remove the acrylic and then re-dip it in some enamel paint in the future.

    Wandering around the You Tubes about watches I stumbled upon your channel, so you can be sure that the algorithm is doing its job. I’ve just watched a couple of your videos and I can say that I really enjoy the format and the whole process you put into the builds (caveats included), I find it kind of therapeutic, laidback and fun. I’ll keep digging your channel for more modding goodness (I’m new to this collecting and modding watches so I guess this place is a good starting point). Liked and subbed, keep them coming!

    I love how you, unlike most people who make videos about watch mods/restoration/builds, leave in all the mistakes and the swearing and the frustrations that you encounter. You're not trying to sugarcoat anything. I'm waiting on the parts to do my very first watch repair (swapping out the broken movement) and I KNOW that it's going to a b*tch, especially since I have two left hands.

    • @ItsAnotherWatch
      @ItsAnotherWatch  Před 2 lety

      Thanks! I don't have the appropriate tools to test the water resistance unfortunately.
      As for getting a display case back for your SKX007, you can get one here: www.namokimods.com/en-gb/collections/casebacks/products/skx-sapphire-display-caseback-polished-finish?ref=itsanotherwatchYT&variant=31887590916130 . Its rated for 200M water resistance and has options for either use with an NH36 or 7S26 (since they have different size spacers). If you're SKX007 is stock, make sure you go for the 7S26 (Black Spacer) option.
      To change your case back, you can get something like this: www.amazon.co.uk/Zacro-Adjustable-Opener-Remover-Watchmaker/dp/B01N4BNKXA/ . There's a tool for holding the case (for better grip) and a tool that will unscrew the case back. Its as simple as unscrewing the old one, keeping the gasket (from the old one) in place and then screwing the display case back down onto it. Naturally you can see me do it in this video, placing the gasket and screwing on the case back, so its fairly simple.
