You'll be surprised how resilient they are to cold once they're bigger. Just plain old potting mix, I start them indoors, they probably wouldn't survive outside until they are not enough to transplant 🔥🔥🔥
You certainly can! Start them indoors on the windowsill, then transplant then outside after the last frost, you'll get a shorter growing season, but it'll be long enough for full sized plants 🔥🔥🔥
