One of our fans, Eruthiawen Telcontar, commissioned us to compose music for and sing her original poem inspired by J.R.R. Tolkien's book, "The Children of Húrin." Here is our original composition for "Lament for Lalaith." We hope you enjoy it:)
Lyrics By:
Eruthiawen Telcontar
My brother composed and arranged the piece. My family sang it.
Please no bad language in the comments. We want this to be family friendly:) Thank you!
Lyrics:
Lament for Lalaith
When the ground was wet with dew
And Tilion began to flee;
When black of night gave way to blue
And Arien was once set free:
The lightest footsteps ever heard;
They rushèd past, and light they blurred.
When brightest was the noonday sun
And laughing ran the little stream;
When the morning’s light was done
And tired eyes slipped into dream:
Her heart was full, her face was bright
She laughed at each and every sight.
When dark was stream and pale was moon
And weary were the Edain;
When houses swelled with drowsy tune
And blessed sleep found those within:
With open ears she listened long
Her heart was filled with many a song.
Her arms were lithe and strong and free
With meadow-flow’rs she wove her hair;
An elven-maid she seemed to be
With radiant face so bright and fair:
Her spirit left and passèd on
From Dor-lómin she now is gone.

Thank you so much for putting my poem to music! I love it so much.
@@kristenh2402 We are very glad you like it:)
@@kristenh2402 Amazing poem! It sounds like it could be at home with Tolkien's poems imo.
And amazing composition by Clamavi too!
Another magnificent piece by yourselves, thank you. And thank you to @kirsten h for the composition. Long live Tolkien and the works he inspires.
@@kristenh2402 It is a wonderful poem, I am glad you wrote it and thanks to Clamavi de Profundis we now can also listen to it :) Great to see what inspiration and love for Tolkiens work can achieve!
In the Silmarillion, no lament was written or sung for Lalaith, as Morwen was too stricken by grief to even call her daughter Lalaith anymore. 'Lalaith', meaning laughter, was taken from Húrin's family in every sense of the word- another example of Tolkien's skill at wordsmithing. Túrin remembers this well, and when Morgoth dies to his hand in the Dagor Dagorath, it will be to complete and absolute silence.
That's who she was!
Thanks.
But Turin doesnt kill Morgoth or am I just confused know?
*Turin will remember that.*
@@chickenman7487 In the original writing of the Silmarillion, Tolkien intended to put in an armageddon scenario called the Dagor Dagorath. Morgoth would break out from the door of night, turn the sun black and the moon cold, and wage a destructive war against the weakened and faded Valar which would destroy the world. Manwë will do battle with Morgoth in a contest of wills but they won't harm each other; then Tulkas will wrestle with Morgoth and throw him down; and the downed Morgoth (presumably) is then stabbed through the heart by Túrin with a reforged Gurthang.
@@chickenman7487 Turin does indeed kill Morgoth.
"Morwen bore a daughter also to Hurin, and she was named Urwen; but she was called Lalaith, which is Laughter, by all that knew her in her short life."
"the world was fair, the mountains tall, in Elder Days, before the fall," - Gimli, son of Gloin.
A different matter, different meaning... yet, so fitting.
Yoo, this is my favorite song from LOTR
Turin Turambar, truly the man who suffered the most on the hands of Morgoth and his ilk. When Dagor Dagorath comes he is meant to avenge all of humanity and his little sister by running the Dark One through with his black sword.
Turin better be a little grateful. Fate had him fostered by Thingol and Melian, made him a councillor of Nargothrond and he got to marry an excellent woman.
@@tarmairon431 this was all due to Morgoth's curse. His children were bound to lose everything dear to them in horrid manner, over and over again.
@@tarmairon431 You know who that 'excellent woman' WAS, don't you?
@@Damianweibler spoil me if its not in the silmarillion if it is tell me the chapter. i ask of you nothing else

The Valar themselves kneel before the greatness of Clamavi De Profundis!!!!
That was beautiful. The Children of Hurin is one of my favourite books and one of Tolkein's greatest and most tragic works.
Lalaith reminds me so much of my own sister. This pulls at my heartstrings because I can not imagine my life without my sister.
I love how this channel not only sings songs based off of Tolkien's poems and songs, but has also created an original work inspired by a character in the Legendarium! Simply magnificent and beautiful! Truly, the late professor Tolkien continues to inspire and motivate. Amazing work, everyone!
Her face is so sweet! I can't help tearing up a bit. Shame on Morgoth for what he did!!!!!!!
What's incredible is that this focuses on all the good of her life, not the Trauma Conga Line (according to TV Tropes) of tragedy her death kicked off!
As a heartfelt lament should be.
Now I’m just imagining a conga line going “We got lots of trau-ma”
I know! I also love how it seems to be permeated by a sense of innocence and wonder, just like she was and just like the world is when you're three.
@@tallleprechaun1318 TV Tropes used the term to describe Turin's life, but this works too!
Yeah... yeah...
... Still like the story of Turambar, though, even if I don't think there was an actual lament in Children of Húrin.
I've almost run out of adjectives. . . poignant, lovely, lyrical, haunting. . .
Amazing. I have read of Hurin from Unfinished Tales and I have to say this song does the topic immense justice. It also goes to show that even though Tolkien's journey with writing for the world of Middle-earth and beyond is over, there are countless others willing to try their own hand at spinning their own tales.
"Marrer of Middle-earth, would that I might see you face to face, and mar you as my lord Fingolfin did!” -Hurin Thalion
I’ll be honest, despite the fact I’ve always loved Tolkien’s work I haven’t often been able to make myself sit down and read it. But when I hear y’all’s songs, I just gotta know where it all comes from, and it’s the little push I need. So I just wanna thank y’all for helping me read the greatest fantasy literature to ever be written
This is that "Clamavi de Profundis", that I subscribed long ago. Beautiful and worthy music for beautiful and worthy lyrics.
Thank you from Ukraine in this dark times.
I just read the first chapter of Children of Hurin this past week... It was lovely to hear this new poem and song just after learning of Lalaith. Especially telling of her character is how even in lament it is her joy and laughter that are most mentioned. 😔
(As well-written and lovely as it is, and as much as I love learning of those earlier days, I'm loath to follow Hurin the ever-hopeful elf-friend, and all his kin into the depths of their despair...)
This, right here, is the very reason why I love Clamavi De Profundis so much. I really am speechless, this is gorgeous. You're so awesome , I love you guys.
I'm not a Tolkien fan so I don't know the context of any of this but I'm glad I caught one of your songs early.
Terrifically written, and tremendously performed.
This song has just a little bit of mood whiplash. Happy, happy, happy, and... suddenly she's dead. I guess that _does_ count as a lament - it's not like anyone's ever really prepared for a death.
I definitely wasn't expecting it!
I don't know what you're saying, but I can tell by Clamavi's love and by the song what you mean, for music is its own language.
Clamavi De Profundis has got be one of the best composers of J.R.R. Tolkien works. all together, his attention to detail, his wording, music, melody and voice an nothing short of epic. I can't wait to hear a composition/song about Tuor (One of my favourite characters) or Turin Turambar of even them both as they are cousins with striking similarities and upbringing. Or one about either Tuor and Idril. Clamavi De Profundis keep making these masterpieces.
EDIT: I forgot to give my compliments to the female Singer, her voice and singing is amazing and nice to listen to it makes you feel like you are in J.R.R Tolkien's "Secondary World" and works
Oh, my goodness. I love these people so much.
I recently read The Children Of Hurin, so this one got to me. Beautiful work, team 👏
Clamavi has a new song! Yay! This just made my day.
Well done! A beautiful song, and well composed! Keep up your excellent work guys (and girls)!
Thank you! Beautiful composition and amazing voices to accompany a lovely poem!
My vocabulary is insufficient to express my joy and reverence for these works, both for the poem and the musical implementation!
I'd love to see Fingolfin vs Morgoth's poem brought to life
Absolutely amazing! Such a tragic death..
Lalaith got lucky honestly
@@jessicacaron5084 terrible way to go out. Then again such tragedy befell that family that life may not have been worth living. I think she would’ve remained in Menegroth with the Elves though as she would be more suited there.
@@jessicacaron5084 lucky how? She was killed by a curse.
@@AlexLifeson1985 She was spared everything that happened to everyone else in her family!
That is a beautifully composed piece! Thanks for the great work! I love the stories of the little known characters like Lalaith, and what we know of her ist so wonderful and heartbreaking at the same time ...
The Children of Húrin is my favourite Tolkien book, great to see it represented here
Incredible work, as always! You truly are a lord of the words 🤍
Truly beautiful and heartfelt, I thank you from the bottom of my heart for this and your other songs!
Thank you Clamavi de Profundis!!! The purity and solemness of your songs fill me and my family with joy. God bless you!
Outstanding work, like every time! ♥ lyrics, music, voices, everything works so magically well together, it's so wonderful to listen to!
Thank you for sharing the beauty of your voices with us. The moment I heard the first few songs, I felt so happy. I was feeling very sad, because of the moment we are living, but your music brought me joy, to think that we can still have a future. Thank you for bringing me that hope. I will show your music to my family and put it for my children to listen to when they play. A big hug, from a Brazilian woman. :)
Beautiful. Thank you for blessing my ears
The picture itself makes me cry, knowing whom it is supposed to be. And then I recall the entire story of the Children of Húrin.
I've got sister-daughters now. Therefore this breaks me even further.
First I thought only the Song of Durin could break me.
You've got quite the arsenal CDP!
what a beautiful poem. i love everything about this. thank you to all the creators and artists responsible.
A beautiful poem, an inspired composition, and a masterful performance. I'm so glad I stumbled across your channel.
So beautiful song.
Ah... the depressing and extremely messed up story.
My favorite.
Aure entuluva!
Beautiful! I'm going to go cry now...
Also, to whomever drew that drawing of the child, it looks fantastic
Aah I almost missed it because it had the CZcams preview thing, and then when it came out it was so far down my subscriptions feed.
You write these songs as if you were there. It is awesome❤️.
A fresh way to enjoy the world of Middle-Earth. You are now a Bard in the world of Arda.
Wonderful song!!! exciting, epic. you are fantastic!💪
Beautiful work as always! The heroic background overtures seem to practically beg for a followup with her brother Turin as the subject - would love to see a Song of the Black Sword sometime in the future!
There comes a wish, where my wish would come true but I know it will not become, is that Tolkien would be able to see that his works still inspired people and react what they were able to recreate with his works.
Another top-of-the-line composition! It is hard to describe it. Beautiful!
Beautiful, simply beautiful.
Another gem! Tolkien would be pleased. Thank you.
What a beautiful creation.
I give to you the holy trinity of Middle Earth: Tolkien, Jackson and Clamavi De Profundis! You are a delight to listen to!
The feeling those songs gave it's epic.
Beautiful, as always
I subscribed to this channel for a long time and silly me just recently discovered the meaning of Clamavi de Profundis, while following the Latin text readings of Pope Benedict funeral mass. Out of the depth I cried from Psalms. Always the best from your group^^
Wonderful
nice to be one of the first!!! As always delight!
Another great work of art
This is beyond beatiful.
I'm tearing, this song is so goood!!!😥😍
Excellent job!
I love this.
Awesome work
That's very nice !
This is really neat
Sooo beautiful...
Just read The Children of Hurin for the first time recently and I was surprised at how it was a nice fully developed novel. I always hear about The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings but not this. Maybe because it does not have a film adaption but it's a must read especially for having such a bleak take on Middle Earth.
NOICE
THAT WAS AMASSING
Very nice!
Another great work from you guys ❤❤
Your self made songs are so good and well composed.
Have you thought about ever covering „The wandering day“ from the Rings of Power, since I think this is a song that would sound even more perfect from you
Only if you guys like of course
Keep up the great work 👏👏👏
Wonderful! 🥰
Would you guys consider covers for any of the following religious songs?
Confiteor Deo Omnipotenti (from Disney's the Hunchback of Notre Dame)
Lord of All Hopefulness
God we Praise you
Sweet Sacrament, We Thee Adore
O Christ the Great Foundation
Wonderful👏👏
I want to listen to the song all the time now. When/if do you plan to put it on Spotify?
wonderfull
I'm so excited! This is so beautiful!!!
Edit: also first
Glad you enjoyed it:)
@@ClamaviDeProfundis Thank you so much, you and the author of this poem for creating this masterpiece. 😊😊
Return of the king
It would be great if you would try to put into words the idea behind "Laer Cu Beleg" - I know that J.R.R. Tolkien did not put any words into it, but the idea of Turin's elegy to his friend, killed by horrific "accident", would be perfect.
I see a CdP new song, I like.
Tragic is the tale of the House of Hurin, of Lalaith or Nienor, and of Turin Turambar, wife and husband, who sought to master darkness yet was mastered by it.
Could you make Laer Cú Beleg ?
Somehow reminds me of Kochanowski's poems about death of his daughter.
There is no music in the void
This is a lew level of epic. I will call it soothing epic!
Time for another amazing song
👏👏👏👏
I like to think Morgoth targeted little Urwen because he feared her light and joy, knowing how much damage she might do if she but declared her power.
A little lively for a lament, but I love the concept.
Next up pls: lament for rings of power
Hype hype hype!
Poor Lalaith. Died way too soon and also had incestuous siblings. May the Dagor Dagorlath, and revenge on Morgoth come soon.
Poor Turin. Poor Lalaith.
Isn't biological warfare against the Geneva Convention? Who does Morgoth think he is 😡
Mistreatment of Prisoners of War and killing civilians too!
👍

Huh. Did you use Shai from BDO for the picture?
*If you feel like a character in a story, never name losable things with terms like "laughter", "victory", "life", "luck", or "pride".*
That's why Hitler refused naming any if his warships "Germany", so no one could say that "Germany sunk".
Vets get worried if you call your pets Chance and Lucky. I occasionally take on strays so vets assume I'm a bit tougher skinned than I am and one's face when I brought in Lucky, named by his finder. He lived a long, happy life but racked up my vet bills. This is an epic song though of why it is worth loving even those you lose way beyond their time to your heart's break.
