    My grandpa participated in destroying the Berlin wall..He told me how many people were there using any tool that could destroy it and when they did bring it down he also told me how many positive yells and crying was when it got destroyed. I honestly find it really amazing since i have a grandparent who participated in something historical.

      @Flor_Us Kpop girl Group X Wjsn Ujung basically, the Soviet Union built a wall to make sure it’s citizens didn’t go to the non-Soviet part of Berlin. After a lot of revolutions in the 80s, the leader Mikhail Gorbachev started to loosen the borders, and the wall was set to fall after 40 years of it trapping them in.

      It would be great but extremely unrealistic. Human nature is very tribalistic. Sometimes walls are necessary, like between the USA and Mexico. There are very bad people who would like to come into our country. The Berlin Wall split up an actual city in the same country though and was pointless.

    Apparently what happened was (according to a German guy who was at my house the other week) a politician was given an announcement to make about the travel laws of going between East and West Germany but he misinterpreted the message so the way he said it basically just meant that you can go between the 2 sides of the country at your own will (Or something like that, I mostly just remember the basic information). So this guy was suppose to say the message at 3am, but instead he said it at 8pm when everyone was awake. And since it basically said they could go through, everyone started gathering at the Berlin wall. The thing was that there were only 2 guards, both of which has 20 bullets each, and the reason why there were only 2 guards was because everyone was that scared of what would happen if you tried to cross the wall, that most people didn't go anywhere near it. So, since the guards new they didn't stand a chance against all those people and that if they tried to shoot any of them then they'd just run out of bullets and get shot, they put their guns down and just walked on through. And so everyone just went on through and started tearing the wall down.
    Also, if there was anyone who was there who wants to correct me on anything, please do.

    • @minchen_2265
      @minchen_2265 Před 5 lety +82

      True Story. The name of that man who misinterpreted the message was Günter Schabowski and he was the spokersperson of the SED. And people didn't just gather at the wall in berlin but at all the checkpoints through the country. The first civillian to cross the border from east to west and back was a woman named Annemarie Reffert in Marienborn which was the cross-border between saxony-anhalt and lower saxony. She saw the news and wanted to give it a spontaneous try. So she and her daughter drove up to marienborn and told the surprised guards that she just wanted to hop over to buy some beer and than be back. The guards were totally confused, didn't know what to do and in the end let her pass. They actually thought that she wouldn't come back anyway. But she did as she told. Her papers from back then can be viewed at marienborn.

      @wanderlustworldschooling543 Před 2 lety +19

      Pretty much true. The spokesman didn’t look at the notes thoroughly before the regular broadcast. Wasn’t prepared for the follow-up question about when the new travel measures would take place. They were supposed to take place the following day- when offices were open and people could easily apply for necessary documents. Previously they could apply- but it was stupid expensive, lots of red tape and most weren’t approved. Officials actively coerced those that applied to withdraw their applications.
      So the new measures were supposed to make it easy.
      Without thinking he said ‘now’ so people just started heading to the wall. Guards along the wall obviously had no idea what was happening since it was an accident on the live news broadcast. So guards didn’t know what to do or how to respond. Some even told the wall jumpers how to dismantle the top barriers easier.

      +Ædrick The Paladin That would be nice, but the only problem is that then, North Korea's going to blame South Korea, Japan, and the United States. Then they'll probably nuke the countries I listed, get the Middle East on board, and start WW3. At least, that's how I envision it.

      @CynnamonVA Před 8 lety +15

      Ædrick The Paladin As much as I'd love to see that happen to the whole Kim family, they worship them like gods, to the point where I'd say North Korea's religion might as well be renamed to "Kimism" (my lame attempt at making up a name :P). As an example, if you watch footage from Kim Jong-Il's funeral, you'll notice everyone crying. The majority were actually crying for the loss of their "Great Leader." As for the minority, they had to fake cry, because apparently, not paying "adequate respects" to the leader is punishable by death. That, and they've cut off ties from the rest of the world (except Cuba, from what I know), especially South Korea, Japan, and the United States because...grudges. In conclusion, though I really hate to say this, I don't see a Korean unification coming anytime soon, or anytime at all, for that matter.

      If it is not present - chaos has to be prevalent 24 hours. Peace is unspoken law of nature - and we are part of nature, right? So how can we say peace cannot be the answer.

    There is a portion of the former Berlin Wall here in Manila. It is in the National Museum. I saw it once, and I tell you, I was so amazed that I touched the exhibit, not long after, a steward approached me and said "Don't touch the exhibit, sir."😂

    I just had lunch with a lady who was 9-10 when the wall went down. She was from West Berlin and her family went to see it all happening. She got a chunk of the wall as a kid and now her mom proudly displays it on the center of their coffee table.

    The tearing of the Berlin wall ended up releasing a chain of events that is still going on. I am an under educated 27 year old Bulgarian who´s family felt compelled to immigrate to Spain. At the age of 13 and because my family was economically poor at the time so we managed to do the best we could in the circumstances we were presented with. With no knowledge in Spanish, yet English fluency I as a poor under educated Bulgarian was shocked at the state of my Spanish school. The classroom was courageous , they had what an American sold us on is African education system. My teacher was not fluent in English, yet she was my teacher. I went into what I would suppose from my limited knowledge of American culture you may call a ´´headmaster´´ of my school to try and complain about that but when I did I was silenced. He told me I´ve been to your country, you´re no better because I´ve seen it, but hadn´t. He only saw his Americas installed prejudges and a bunch of minority school because nobody who saw my economically poor Bulgarian school would say that it sucks. And not because it looks really shinny, but because it teaches using old, what I think he considered ´´communist´´ school system. Here I was an under educated 13 year old Bulgarian child yet he was telling me my system sucks because I speak English and my teacher doesn´t ? Nothing was done. I´ve felt compelled to try and engage with American culture and it depresses me. I´ve come to the conclusion that it It depresses me because it propagates the massage to look into your heart and it will tell you the answer which is really another way of saying listen to your feelings. But the only logical answer is that our feelings will tell us how we feel and not what we should do. Facts ought a tell us that. While I am writing this I am going trough a deep emotional crisis and I have barely slept and eaten in days because I have been following the trails of the incoherence in the Russian and American statements. I looked only for statements, it was hard to find them trough all the spam. I needed to know what is happening in America because me as an under educated emotionally unstable Bulgarian in Spain was able to follow international news. Now believe it or not I knew what was happening in America before they did. I think right now we all ought to ask ourselves the is that what we´ve been doing too? And should politically correct be any different from morally correct? I think the answer is no. My mother went into labor on the 9th of November of 1989. On the 10th of November the soviet government of Bulgaria was down. We were taught why because it was politically incorrect or something? I was still a child. A child that America forced into poverty by supporting corrupt Actions because they were not aware that there was any corruption going on. Well there was and you were doing it. The only explanation I ever got whenever I asked my mother why did the communism fail, yes they forced us to call it communism, she just kept telling me ´´Кой ми сра в гаштите?''(the best American translation I can find for it is ''Who shat in my pants?'' and I kept asking ''mom but what does that mean?'' and she kept telling me ''it's what the Americans taught us. Who shat in your underpants. But you see that is only funny is the person who you are telling it to doesn't get the joke because if you ever have to ask ''who shat in my underpants?'' you're asking the wrong question. The answer is you, because only you can shit your own underpants.''And then often I would follow up with ''well mom, who shat in Bulgaria's underpants and she would say I honestly don't know. Before it was the Russians and now it's the Americans but with the Russians we were better off.'' I feel compelled to try and share this story with people and hope that they will get my message. If things are shit we shouldn't accept it but work to improve it, but to improve it you must first agree on what it is. I feel very sad today because i realize what my mother meant. Americans killed communism. They are idiots. Don't be an idiot. Be an intellectual. But don't just say it. Be it. All I feel I'm doing at this point of mental exhaustion is rambling so this is my story as a random Bulgarian on the internet. Thank you for reading, I am for sorry for all or any grammatical errors and good luck, just don't rely on it. I hope that soon I will feel capable to put my life not back for me, for the first time maybe in order if that is possible.
