    I like your program very much as I am new to pencil colouring and your organization of materials and especially your lesson plan ( main points) set out so your audience can see them, is very, very helpful. I should say I am a retired teacher so I felt you deserved to hear that your classes are excellent! And, you do not say "you guys" every two minutes! So many demonstrators on CZcams do! Kudos to you from Toronto, Canada!

    I see the benefit of the undercoat with the highlighter , however, sometimes having the white show is exactly what you want. It is great to have another option. Thanks.

    • @YourMajesty143
      @YourMajesty143 Před 3 lety +1

      Yeah, it completely changes the tone. The highlighters don't match the pencil colors she's using. If I want to retain the original color, this trick doesn't help. It's better to lay a foundation of watercolor pencil & blend it out with a damp nib or just use alcohol.

  • @gsalycat
    @gsalycat Před 8 lety +2

    Wow! Using Sharpie Highlighters for a coloring base is the coolest coloring tip I have seen in a while. A great addition to my coloring tool box. Thanks Jennifer.

  • @TheCajunBeauty
    @TheCajunBeauty Před 7 lety +41

    If you want to get the white parts out when you are using colored pencils you can use hand sanitizer or baby oil with a qtip or sometimes I dip the tip of my pencil in before I start coloring, but you want to use the qtip method if you have want to blend and contrast your colors.

    • @ColoringBliss
      @ColoringBliss  Před 7 lety +3

      +TheCajunBeauty, yes! There are so many amazing blending methods. I demonstrate a lot of them in my Color Like a Pro series. This video demonstrates using a base layer to eliminate the white. A lot of artists use markers...like comics or other alcohol markers. Some use watercolor paints too! The options are endless...I LOVE ART!!! Thanks for watching my video.

    • @TheCajunBeauty
      @TheCajunBeauty Před 7 lety +1

      I thought I would mention it here for those who may not want to use the highlighter method. I really like the hand sanitizer the best so far, because the colors are also more vibrant as well as smooth. I think it becomes almost as smooth as markers.

    • @ColoringBliss
      @ColoringBliss  Před 7 lety

      +TheCajunBeauty, I'm not sure if I've every tried hand sanitizer specifically. Is there a brand or type you use? I know hand sanatizer is basically rubbing alcohol...how does it compare to using just rubbing alcohol? So many fun possibilities!

    • @TheCajunBeauty
      @TheCajunBeauty Před 7 lety +3

      I think mine is an off brand one, but any of them should work the same. I find it to be a little better, because the sanitizer is a little thicker so I find that it is easier to control the amount I use and it is less likely to drip off. I also like that it comes in smaller bottles as well so it is also easier to carry with you if you want to color on the go.

    Jennifer, I discovered coloring as the perfect secret tool for me to help me sit with both my mom and dad over the last 1 1/2 years during chemo treatment. My daddy always LOVED my crafting antics. His season here on earth ended on Valentines Day this year. As I continue to care for my mama and chemo treatment - I continue to color...off and on. Yesterday our chemo nurse had her coloring out. We enjoyed sharing how much fun it is to color and that we are glad that we finally have an "excuse" as adults to do so! If she is my mom's chemo nurse today, I can't wait to tell her about the Sharpie Highlighters secret trick!!! I will also tell her all about your channel that I just found today! Call me crazy but... I don't like it. Maybe it's because I like the white in between? It makes it look "organic" if that makes sense. I just don't want to put fluorescent highlighter underneath colored pencil. It sounds like a sin 😬 Neat trick though :)

    Watercolors and acrylic washes are 2 even better under layers... they both allow you to quickly get a foundation on the page without spending much time... DedeW is a master at this .. of course she is also a very talented artist. I find most of the "professional" coloring book artists like Dede, Peta, Chris Chung etc are amazing artists and they all use advanced artist techniques to achieve pro looking results. Hard for the average non-artist to recreate... but one can always try!

    • @ColoringBliss
      @ColoringBliss  Před 7 lety +2

      +pesto12601, it can be discouraging to a new colorist when they don't understand why their pages look so different to the more experienced colorists pages. I always appreciate when I find artists who are sharing and teaching their techniques so that we can all learn from them. It is such a gift to the world!

      Agree.. I like these particular artists because they approach things in an easy manner... Dede throws paint and other items on a page and though it looks like a mistake... voila - she shows you how that mistake is now something great! Peta shows tecnhiniques that can be applied easily to coloring books to take a ho-hum coloring to a new level.. simply by using proper colors and layering.. something everyone can do.

    All I had was a blue highlighter and a green colored pencil at my desk and tried it on kraft colored sticky note, and it came out to be a teal color that I love. Awesome tip. Going to be investing in more highlighters.

    I am learning so much about coloring with your videos - thank you! I was never happy with colored pencils because of the white peeking thru. So I went straight to markers but now am collecting gel pens and I guess Sharpie Highlighters too! I find coloring so interesting and I have been experimenting with using more than one type of product on a page. Now I can use even more!! . I am old enough that we had art classes until out of elementary school but I never remember being taught any of these things. Thank you again

    Can you still layer up the colored pencils on top of the highlighter? I know it showed more depth with one color of pencil but if I still want to use multiple shades of a color will it work to layer & blend on the highlighter? Such a great idea! Thanks for sharing with us. I am really enjoying your videos.
