I disagree with people saying they’d prefer it if she looked larger and more menacing, this way it makes it so much scarier in that visibly she’s not portrayed as a threat on screen. Only the context of having seen her be “killed” seconds prior can override that sense of security. The way it’s portrayed here is scarier in that you don’t actually get the gratification of knowing how scary makima is.
Exactly this were already good from the start and i don’t see point of making her looked larger however I think it’s just that degenerate mfs that just wanted to be stepped on by her and proceed to call her mommy some kinda shit
When I saw this scene I completely freaked out.
Her just standing there and looking you deadly in the eye, after thinking she was dead was already scary for me.
I haven't read the manga or anything and don't know how they portrayed it there but with the music in the background the feeling got more intense.

In my opinion the way Makima was shown in the manga looks intimidating enough, but the way they showed her in this scene animated and colored makes her look even more terrifying.
In this scene in the manga, she was shown to be a little taller, whit face filled with anger a hatred. The shadows on her face and her height shows already known to the viewer thing - Makima is too op for this world, and she's obviously angry at the shooters.
In the same scene here, she doesn't express any anger, and does not tower over them. The scene is built to look and sound as if Makima's dead, like some kind of relief. But in spite of everything, with calm music playing in background, a woman who can initially be mistaken for a fragile and kind-hearted person stands in front of the enemies, covered in blood, and smiling in their faces, as if mocking them for a nice try.
She looks creepy enough in both versions, but the anime made her even badder amd more uncanny in this scene.

People often criticize this show for a realistic look, but imo that is what gave weight to a lot of scenes in this show. Just unnecessarily stretching scenes only creates drama. But this short exchange perfectly introduced the fear element in the scene.
I criticize it for the insane amounts of horny dogshit personally
I mean the typical shōnen formula has always been tiring, especially when most shōnen series are filled-to-the-brim with expositions lecturing the audiences about the world instead of immersing them into it.
Chainsaw Man was a breathe of fresh air the first time I watched. In fact, it was the most atmospheric shōnen anime series I’ve ever seen.

I think the anime did a good job with this scene still. I think people weren't expecting when it occurred in the manga so the shock factor was so much realer. Now we know it would be animated so I guess its not the same.

im confused by your statement, ofc knowing the thing before or after can make a big difference in making it worse or better, people like to compare and its natural.
When you lose that shock factor your brain will immediately tell u "Huh, I know this scene from XXX and it kinda looks different", instead of "Wtf, how is she still standing!?"
For me I've read the manga long ago before this came out, so I always focus on things that has changed, instead of having the "First Reaction Value"
@@jamesche7496 You may be right, but that's not the case for me. A vivid example of this is season 2 of the Jujutsu Kaisen. I clearly remember that I didn't like sealing Gojo. The Mappa studio makes ordinary scenes just incredible or just a little better than the original, but Gojo's seal is an exception. And then I started asking fans questions since I read the manga a year or two ago- why was Geto strangling himself? There was no such thing in the manga! And then I reread it and it turns out that Geto strangled himself in the manga as well. And you know what? Sealing Gojo still sucks in anime, but in manga it's candy. And this is after a year of reading manga. And I read the Chainsaw man when the series was released and episode 8 was a complete disappointment for me, especially because I started reading after the release of episode 7. So you may be right, but in anime, it's real that sealing Gojo, that awakening Makima is shit to me.

Having that faint smile names this version better than the manga for me.
The overall intimidation is lesser than manga perhaps but the uncanny and incomprehensible nature of makima is portrayed better like this.
She feels kinda alien. Inhumane.

Makima is a devil, meaning she can make contracts with people. She made a contract with the prime minister of Japan which makes it so that any injury to her is inflicted onto a random Japanese citizen in the form of an appropriate illness or accident. Basically, when she dies, someone else dies, and she is revived. Essentially she had about 192 million lives. This was her 25th death. She dies once again to the gun devil, and dies many more times fighting Denji.

Ok so ive never read the manga but my theory is that she probably made those men think they were killing her with some mind powers or something and thats why she was never shot and the blood on her was not hers. Probably also why power, the one demon who fears nothing, fears her. Maybe mental torture was the method she used to control power til she became more obedient or subservient because as you can tell she hasn't proven to have any physical demon attributes but she obviously has a contract.
As a manga reader - you start off cold and get a little warm at a point! I really suggest reading because it's a really great manga, but the anime does give it so much more atmosphere so I can't blame you if you just wait for the rest to be animated

People often misunderstand this scene: while Makima is OP for simply being able to not get instantly one shot by a primal fear, she still had no chance of winning had she not escaped immediately. She was buying time at best.

I like the anime version of this scene more. One thing that Makima has always been good at besides manipulation is being unpredictable. Throughout my time reading the manga, I've always expected her to just lose her mind at some point and just lash out, but she always remained calm and composed even until the very end.
It's pretty obvious immediately upon her introduction that Makima is definitely not a normal person, and this version of the scene makes you question further: What in the world is she?
