I had an old C4 Picasso its did 148,000 miles totally trouble free motoring I paid £9999 new for it nine years ago brand new and just sold it for £995 it never let me down, it was turned into a van on many occasions abused beyond belief its still going strong just bought a new one Keep it up citroen great cars and really comfy too
My boss bought in 2007 a C4 Picasso, 1.6 diesel. He has it for over 7 years now and have 150k miles on the dash.Never had any kind of problem with it.Great car!
I love when Matt points out the bad reliability statistic for Citroen cars while the VW brand is rated poor in EVERY SINGLE reliability and satisfaction survey and he never points this out...
Apparently there is a newly discovered law in Thermodynamic stating that "Every car is cannot be better or as fun to drive as a Ford" and that seems to be applied in all Carbuyers, Telegraph's....etc reviews. I mean, Ford?????!!!
+Sam R Try to drive for ex.Focus from 2001 with trend-level of equipment(those with sport chassis and suspension),then write me here about feeling,Ford has some of the best suspensions on the market dude
Matt has such a talent, in each video you really can take in everything he says and he gives each video a real feel of content with how he presents them
I don't like it when reviews criticise cars like these for its dynamic capabilities or lack thereof. It's not supposed to be all driver-focused, it's an MPV.
I'm driving till the end a 2002 Xsara Picasso running on petrol and LPG (1.8 16v) and used in Poland, where the road system is clearly bad and the most annoying problem is the ignition switch needing replacement every two or three years. Actually I learned how to replace it with a British CZcamsr and the cost is a ridiculous 6€. From all the MPV's I reckon the Picasso's are one of the best regarding money for value. Rule of thumb is to buy French cars with all the toys, like a version Exclusive. From the panoramic windscreen, the front armrest detail till the folding table with light and 4 zones air conditioner the Picasso is really a very interesting and original vehicle. I'm keeping with Citroen after this Xsara. :)
Just coveres 400 miles (mainly motorway) in an Exclusive model with manual diesel 115HP version. Sweet cruiser and didn't feel tired after all the driving however MPG was below 50 rather than 70+ advertised.
i live in france . the renault of the 2000 's are well protected for the salt . my renault of1993 resists well with our salt too and off course a recent renault (warranty of 12 years antirust ) is more adapted for the salt in winter . in latvia you have certainly not a big % of french car sold by years ,even in the 90 -2000 . the carmakers know all how to make a car vs the salt in winter .
Drove the THP 156 with 16" tires and wow! It's like a luxury car when it comes to comfort! This is a really enjoyable travel car but if you are only a sportscar lover please look elsewhere.
Had the car for a week. Quite happy until an important sensor is broken. Now I have warnings flashing on the dash. ABS ESP parking brake anti collision warning etc etc satnav is down as well as dab digital radio. God please help citroen! Now they've given me a C1 while the car is with the dealer. What an experience.
This review is on point. Whilst I can't comment about the cameras as the c4 picasso model I test drove didn't have those, I agreed with everything said about the cabin, particularly the cramped rear side seats, and the lack of space between you and the roof when the drivers seat is at its highest. Glad this reviewer's bothered to look at this last issue, it always gets missed by other reviewers. A lot of otherwise excellent cars become impractical to drive when the driver seat is at its highest because the designers don't take into account the reduced visibility amongst other things.
Run the Exclusive+. It does everything really well. The digital dashboard was years ahead of rivals. MPG is 70mpg at 50mph, 60mpg at 60mph and 50mpg at 70mph. Average is 51.3... always 51.3 hmm?
Sat in one at the weekend and it feels really special. The criticisms in the review (such as on the limit dynamics) aren't relevant in a car like this.
i have a renault 19 of 1993 and 225000 KM and my car pass the technic control every 2 years without problem . and my renault is not rusted ( metalised painting )
I just ordered my next company car. C4 Picasso Bluehdi 2.0 exclusive+ with xenons and nappa leather. sweet as. Comes first week of April. Can't wait. I could not give a toss about the small glove box, as it's got loads of other cubbys.
trogoy hi. I did and I like it a lot. It's a very easy going, relaxing car to drive. I like all the gadgets and it is very modern in terms of design. The blue hdi engine does 45-50mpg for me, but I'd say the 1.6d is all you really need as the 2.0 isn't as powerful as you think. It handles surprisingly well and I would definitely choose one again. Downsides : the Glovebox is a total waste of time. There needs to do about release button in the front as the electric boot isn't as quick as a manual one. Most people don't "get" it's looks. Those who do, like me, think it's a cool car. I got the ruby red one but I think the silver one is better now I've seen them. 100%reliable so for. Cheers.
That's promising. I ordered an exclusive+ from my local Citroen dealer this morning. It's done 0 miles and is a 64 plate. I know the new 15 plates come out next week but I got 5k off the price so couldn't refuse with it still being a brand new car with 0 miles. Being delivered in about 10 days. Reply ·
Lovely looking car. Love the thin strip headlights. Appalling unsafe position for the satnav screen though - forces you take your eyes much further off the road than something mounting higher up on top of the dash.
Correctamundo! I was testing cars when it was originally called the Ford Focus C-Max. My brain must have reverted back to 2003. Hey we all make mistakes - good job I'm not a surgeon eh?
Hey Mat Great Review!! As a C4 Grand Picasso owner I can really appreciate some of the carry-over foibles. You mentioned some but I could clearly see some you've missed. The biggie is EVERY SINGLE (SO CALLED) CUP HOLDER IS UTTERLY USELESS IN THESE CARS, as with most French cars. That goes especially for those recesses called cup holders on the picnic tables.
What impresses me most about this is the blind spot monitoring and the 70 mpg. Looks like England and France haven't quite gotten past their long and historical hatred yet. "You notice some French faibles (weaknesses)."
i dont trust any surveys - their results are so different sometimes. i don't think they can be relied on. especially the adac one which put honda jazz as 22nd/23 WHEN HONDA IS THE MOST RELIABLE CAR BRAND. i also see some cars on some surveys being rated completely differently on different surveys so i really don't know which survey to trust...
Can anyone tell me the real M.P.G. for the C 4 Picasso 1.6 diesel automatic. I am an older driver looking at this car as it is higher access and automatic diesel is available, but I am concerned about the manufacturers claim of over 70 mpg. Thank you.
Well done. Actual evidence and not just opinion or worse still, received opinion. I don't see many cars of any particular brand laid up at the side of the road. All cars seem good to me. Perception seems stronger than reality to most people around here.
It should say covered sorry. This is the car I was given by the dealer because my new one is under investigation due to a faulty sensor. It only took a week before my Citroen ownership went wrong.
Hear hear! Jump into a modern Citroen or Pug. Well built and imaginative. I do like the big windscreens, though. Shudder at the cost of a new one, mind.
We like the unique way you're doing your reviews Mat... but sometimes you become too fussy over little things like the height adjustment on the seat. C'mon!
C1 is a Toyota though really :-P But yeah otherwise, all the reliability surveys seem to have different results. From what I can gather though, Citroen do seem to be improving all the time. The WhatCar? reliability survey showed them above Peugeot and Renault.
sorry to hear that... I guess a "child deceases" of the production beginning or you maybe even got a preproduction model used for dealer presentations...I hope they'll sort it out... I know it's no conciliation, but MMI&display of my ex A4 (B8) also had a serious glitch that took few months and several visits to the service in prder to fix it... I hate "colourfull LCD's" in cars since then...
Nice ride quality and punchy diesel engine. All the gadgets are worth the price. Passenger space is excellent. Great MPV! However tiny cup holders and half size glove box. Door bins are too small in the back.
where do u live and how many old french do u have in your city? i live in Latvia (Northern Europe), it is a lot of Mercedes, VW, Mazda, Toyota, Audi, BMW of 90`s, and very little french. Corrosion in my country takes the first place (salt reogents in winter).
It looks much nicer in black. Just ordered one. I'm sure people will go: 'what on earth is that?' Who cares. This is my car and who's laughing at 70mpg and £20 road tax? (1st year free) ;)
My C5 has over 189000km and feels like sh just left the fabris, everything is still working very good ,all the electricity as well.I like this new model very well ,but like my own C5 ,you have to take for excample two steps back if you want to change the front window cooling to off, that is very bad Englisch .These new touch screens for changing the t° ....I do not want to buy that bloody hell
Too many gadgets to go rong. ..haveing to go through menus to say adjust the cabin fan etc is crazy & dangerous. .if the lcd screen fails a lot of kit will be un usable. ..

We've had 2 C3 picassos-both completely fault free. 80000 in the first, 30000 so far in the second
So why manny moan about French cars reliability??

check ADAC car reliability 2013... C1 is 3rd, C3 is 9th, C4Picasso is 2nd... and generally ahead of their mainstream german competition... ;)

Luckily the most important parts have been imported from Japan, though the tsunami over there made them do some changes to that.

It has Golf's taillights.
So what's the best MPV for 2013 then?
Why do European market cars have so much better fuel mileage than US market cars? Does it have something to do with emissions regulations or what?
I'm not a big fan of Citroen's, sorry. But great review!!!
