As an instructor, I despise exams - students stress about memorization, etc. No student should be tempted to cheat. There is a major need to assess in a different way - no more brain dumps! Let them use their notes/text. Have them reference their class notes to see if they can transfer knowledge correctly. I'm starting to use assessments that avoid this mess.

As a professor (math and physics) during these times, I encourage students to use all technology possible and open book etc. The main thing is that students should not need to go through these challenges. It's not realistic and just creates stress all around. My workaround is to make tests many small questions over some longer questions. This works well in my field (engineering 1st year). Also, a very effective way would be to duct tape a giant piece of presentation board behind your laptop screen (think of a horseshoe shape). As an engineer, I love exploring holes in flawed systems :)

I took physiology last semester and it was open note/open book. When given 70 minutes to answer 30 questions 80% of the class ended up with a C, we had couple As and Bs. This just goes to show that regardless even open book/note IS NOT EASY!!! Rather they want to invade our privacy and treat us like criminals. SMH!!!

It is because 99% of the teachers don’t explain material. I think if it was never explained, it cannot even be asked. They just tell you to read chapters or give you a link for the video
I've only ever been tempted to cheat in classes where the instruction is minimal/nonexistent or if the instructor is genuinely bad with seemingly no concern for the students' wellbeing (if as. professor your view is "the average was a 60, that's really good for this class", you should not be a professor). Not only that but considering the age of technology we are currently in, we will never not be able to look up the answer to a question we have - especially if it is regarding basic concepts. Memorization for an entire exam just to dump it and forget it for the next one is insanely outdated.

I splitted my video output from the exams PC into a capture card of another PC and from that PC, I used OCR to covert what was displayed on screen to google search where questions was easily found online. I know most of you will find this confusing. The most difficult part is how you will be able to pass the verification process. This is not to be worried as i have a way to bypass this. In conclusion, what i am saying is, i can write exams for you from my ends with your live cam as source on my own webcam, while you will be connected remote to my workstation to view the action in realtime. I would recommend keeping the brightness up, also open your blinds too. I try to take my exams early in the day so its the brightest out because the webcam for me can actually see the glare of my phone in my glasses. This helps remove that glare. My proctored exams us RP Now and I have not had issues with the program tracking the IP address with this software. I feel like that's excessive because other people use wifi too in your household.

I never did understand why some tests don’t allow you to use your notes or look things up. Those are things you can do in the real world, so if school is meant to help you prepare for the real world, why can’t you look at notes or do research on a test when those are things you can actually do in the real world? That never made any sense to me.
How much data these tests require is insane. A total invasion of privacy. Thankfully for one of my classes, all we have to do is turn on our webcams... I have a sneaking suspicion this won't be the case for much longer.

I already commented but ALSO!!! They cannot track what is going on with your IP address. Most professors will say this, but it is nothing more than a scare tactic. That is majorly illegal and if the program actually would do this (which none do that I know of, profs just say it) you could easily take both the school and the software company to court - and you would win (they could be obtaining personal info, even banking info of anyone on the wifi, not just the individual taking the exam). So don't worry about this at all, even if you can't access any sort of LTE!

Record multiple voice notes of you speaking the information needed for the test, put them on a playlist, set the player to loop 1 song and play them during the test and hear them with your earphones, you'll need earphones that have that one button to skip the song. If the teacher asks you something quickly plug your earphones to the pc. Just tell the teacher you speakers doesn't work and you need the earphones
Good tip is to tape your notes to your wall in front of you or whatever, and put a big calendar or something over it when you pan the room, then when you stop panning the room quickly take it down. Worked for me a few times

let me say this to all students who are taking tests/exams using proctorio or proctorU. when that light comes on that is watching you take that test, think about what they can see. if anyone has to ask you to pick up your laptop and say, "Pan the room, please", that means that they cannot see what is around you. some of these exams are just ridiculous, filled with all kinds of things that we are not interested in at all in retaining, but we do it because it is required. in a nutshell, if you find yourself in a bind and you know you don't know the stuff you need for those exams, do what you need to do. think. turn that WIFI off. now THAT is what you need to do. turn the WIFI off. figure out how you are going to pass the course. i am by no means encouraging cheating, but what are you going to do when it comes down to the come down and you don't know that stuff? your laptop has a left side and a right side. it also is being supported by a table, a bed, or whatever you are taking the exams on. if you cant see, wear glasses. it may dim the proctor's view of your eyeballs as they shift left to right, but at least you will be able to complete the exam with a satisfactory grade. read between the lines.
I had to answer 200 questions in order to get my PMP certification. I’m glad I was able to get it done but tbh I don’t even remember half the shit that was in there. In my company no one expects us to automatically know something, we just want people who know how to critically solve a problem and get things done!

You could also put a clear piece of tape on the camera itself. That way it can still see you but it’s slightly more blurry. Add that with the glasses trick and you got yourself an easy test

The way he is saying the tips, almost whispered, it's almost like we're outside the classroom trying to get as much info out to cheat before we go in. And btw TURNING OFF THE WIFI connected to your phone to use your phone is probably the biggest piece of advice to use because you can hide your phone all you want but if you're using the same ip address that your proctored exam is getting your data from then you might as well just tell your professor your cheating as the test starts.
The usual method that I use is I stick papers on the wall behind my laptop because my teachers never made me scan the room, but if they have that crazy software that scans your room I guess you can put some posters over them that barely hang there and put a thin thread trough the top corner and after you scan the room pull the posters down from the wall and you can see your papers again. I’m gonna try this method next week, hope it works

You all are overthinking this way too much. Just put a sticky note on the bottom of your desk or on the back of your laptop and then move it to the screen. You're welcome.
1. Get a friend 2. Get a spare laptop and open docs, dumps or reviewer 3. Advised him/her to stay beside you, make sure he/she didn't caught in webcam. 4. Instruct him/her on what to do. Like Ctrl F for the sample questions and search for the answer. 5. Make a choice for example: One tap on your feet is Letter A or 1st choice Two tap on your feet is Letter B or 2nd choice Three tap on your feet is Letter C or 3nd choice Fourth tap on your feet is Letter D or 4th choice 6. Practice it before the actual online exam. Got this idea in watching BAD Genius movie, they create hand movements on the exam.
I have really long arms so I'd usually just hold my phone behind my webcam and Google questions that way. My eyes would appear to be focused on the webcam but they're really on my phone. If the questions are too long to type out, I use Socratic out of view of the camera. Another way is to get some test banks for your book and hope that the professor uses them for the test.
@@SMEbeats Nope, I've made sure to practice ahead of time before the actual test. Like I would FaceTime a friend on my computer and ask them when they can see my phone or fingers, so I know not to move my phone anywhere around that area during the real test. I even put a little read sticker on that area of my screen to mark it as the "no man zone".
Few more ways 1. keep your phone on the screen and attach a wireless mouse to it. In that way you can use the phone freely while looking like you are using the screen 2. Pass a HDMI cable through the door to the other room where you can have helpers that see the question, solve it for you and send it to you through whatsapp on the phone that's placed on your screen which you can navigate through easily using wireless mouse. (I'm a little skeptical about detection of hdmi through software. If you know more about this plz reply)

Actually you don't have to worry so much about using your data. The IP tracking your teachers/professors tell you is just a scare tactic to prevent you from cheating. It's literally illegal for them to peer into your sensitive data, but definitely use a VPN just in case.
HOW TO CHEAT: wear a small bluetooth earbud that can be covered easily by a hat, beanie, or your hair, play your notes on your phone via an audio file, try to keep it short and consise. For extra easy split your notes into multiple audio files, compile them into a single playlist that repeats itself (preferably not on shuffle lol). then you can pause and skip to the next part of your notes if you earbud has a button for audio controls. Keep your hand next to your ear as if you are leaning on it, as opposed to picking your hand up and putting it back down, and everything looks natural. No eye movement, no notes, not funny business. Just audio that only you can hear. If your bluetooth has a light on it, most do, it never hurts to put a piece of black tape over that light or to stick a push pin down there and grind it out (99/100 times this will not hurt your device only break the light). Try to find the smallest bluetooth on amazon and try it out, don't worry about reviews too much you aren't going for quality earbuds, just small and in working order is the only requirements. Good luck. I have never used this before, but people i know did all throughout high school and never got caught. Like i said, I never not one time ever ever did this while in high school or currently in university not ever never i do not cheat ever, but people have used this and it does work. Don't get caught. And maybe just study.

I thought I was the only one who didn't feel bad about cheating a bit lol cuz they courses I'm taking are not even necessary for my career but am required to take or I can't get into the program.
Write really short notes or formulas on a piece of scotch tape and put it on your screen as close to center as possible. Get a thin piece of plexiglass and secure it over your monitor, but not over the camera. Similar in concept to those privacy screen covers, except this is clear and can now be used to make notes on with a fine tip dry erase marker. So now all your notes are “on the screen”, your never looking away from your screen, and its completely transparent so its not blocking your view. Although I’m sure that the test content is placed as close to center screen as possible at all times as a way of providing the proctors with a baseline for where your eyes should be with as little movement as possible, and makes it much more noticeable when your eyes aren’t looking where the test content was placed on screen. I think notes on or around your screen is just a sure way to get caught, cuz they can easily tell when someone is reading something. On the other hand you could buy one of those hidden button cameras and a wireless earpiece that is small enough to hide inside your ear, and just have a buddy read the screen for you and feed you information. Or a single regular Bluetooth hearing aid with volume turned down connected to your phone and just any small camera positioned in the webcam’s blind spot above the keyboard tilted up at the screen for a third party to help you out. It’s times like this that make me jealous of my 4yr old having cochlear implants.
I actually just went to Lowe’s and bought some thin plexiglass. I’m about to do a no credit practice test for Gen Chem and then a for real test later today, so I’m gonna test it out. I drew circles around the center to help me gauge where my notes need to be in comparison to where the test content is, so I’m still looking right where they want me to. I’ll come back here with some follow up afterwards and let you know how it went. Wish me luck. 🤞🏻
Sorry about that guys. I completely spaced it. It actually worked very well. I used light green fine tip dry erase to write my notes and what not and mounted it over my screen making sure not to cover the camera. Just do your best to write your notes in areas that won't be covering the text on the test. But even if it does, that why I used green so that its transparent and doesnt make it difficult to read the test. I didn't end up passing the test and I had to drop the class, but that was my own fault for just not having good enough study habits. I would recommend this method for anyone as a supplement to studying. Make sure that you are familiar with the material your being tested on and use this just as quick references, formulas, etc.

As an instructor, I despise exams - students stress about memorization, etc. No student should be tempted to cheat. There is a major need to assess in a different way - no more brain dumps! Let them use their notes/text. Have them reference their class notes to see if they can transfer knowledge correctly. I'm starting to use assessments that avoid this mess.

As a professor (math and physics) during these times, I encourage students to use all technology possible and open book etc. The main thing is that students should not need to go through these challenges. It's not realistic and just creates stress all around. My workaround is to make tests many small questions over some longer questions. This works well in my field (engineering 1st year).
Also, a very effective way would be to duct tape a giant piece of presentation board behind your laptop screen (think of a horseshoe shape). As an engineer, I love exploring holes in flawed systems :)

I've only ever been tempted to cheat in classes where the instruction is minimal/nonexistent or if the instructor is genuinely bad with seemingly no concern for the students' wellbeing (if as. professor your view is "the average was a 60, that's really good for this class", you should not be a professor). Not only that but considering the age of technology we are currently in, we will never not be able to look up the answer to a question we have - especially if it is regarding basic concepts. Memorization for an entire exam just to dump it and forget it for the next one is insanely outdated.
I have read through what everyone have contributed here. But i find breaking systems fun. When i first looked at all proctored system. I knew there will surely be a way to break the system.
What drove me to the point to find this way to break any proctored system was when i was pressed while writing a home base exmas, i wasn't allowed to use the toilet or my exams will end.
I ended up failing.
Here is what i did to break the system.
1. I created a fresh youtube account and activated it for "Go Live" it took 24hr for the service to active. I started live streaming we my webcam on another PC. Then used OBS Studio to fake my webcam by using the URL of the live youtube stream.
2. I splitted my video output from the exams PC into a capture card of another PC and from that PC, I used OCR to covert what was displayed on screen to google search where questions was easily found online.
I know most of you will find this confusing.
The most difficult part is how you will be able to pass the verification process. This is not to be worried as i have a way to bypass this.
In conclusion, what i am saying is, i can write exams for you from my ends with your live cam as source on my own webcam, while you will be connected remote to my workstation to view the action in realtime.
TELL ME HOW SUCH A COMPLEX SYSTEM CAN BE DETECTED?
If you think my system can't work, write me so i pass your exams for you for free!!!

Guys when you do use your phone, PLEASE make sure it's on silent mode. My phone literally went off while testing. Thank god my professor didn't notice it when reviewing!

Put a bit of vaseline on the camera, it dims the camera quality which makes it look less suspicious if you’re looking at your phone

I would recommend keeping the brightness up, also open your blinds too. I try to take my exams early in the day so its the brightest out because the webcam for me can actually see the glare of my phone in my glasses. This helps remove that glare. My proctored exams us RP Now and I have not had issues with the program tracking the IP address with this software. I feel like that's excessive because other people use wifi too in your household.

Yep on zoom however it isn't proctored as there are no programs that watch me. Only the teacher watches me.

TIP :: always check with your laptop computer and do a few trial runs on where you will keep your notes / phone and see for yourself if it looks suspicious. Also, I found keeping your laptop above eye level helps a lot with looking down and around your screen for notes.

I never did understand why some tests don’t allow you to use your notes or look things up. Those are things you can do in the real world, so if school is meant to help you prepare for the real world, why can’t you look at notes or do research on a test when those are things you can actually do in the real world? That never made any sense to me.

I already commented but ALSO!!! They cannot track what is going on with your IP address. Most professors will say this, but it is nothing more than a scare tactic. That is majorly illegal and if the program actually would do this (which none do that I know of, profs just say it) you could easily take both the school and the software company to court - and you would win (they could be obtaining personal info, even banking info of anyone on the wifi, not just the individual taking the exam). So don't worry about this at all, even if you can't access any sort of LTE!

Record multiple voice notes of you speaking the information needed for the test, put them on a playlist, set the player to loop 1 song and play them during the test and hear them with your earphones, you'll need earphones that have that one button to skip the song. If the teacher asks you something quickly plug your earphones to the pc. Just tell the teacher you speakers doesn't work and you need the earphones
This works specially well with girls or dudes with long hair, no one will notice that you're using earphones

Good tip is to tape your notes to your wall in front of you or whatever, and put a big calendar or something over it when you pan the room, then when you stop panning the room quickly take it down. Worked for me a few times

1. I created a fresh youtube account and activated it for "Go Live" it took 24hr for the service to active. I started live streaming we my webcam on another PC. Then used OBS Studio to fake my webcam by using the URL of the live youtube stream.
2. I splitted my video output from the exams PC into a capture card of another PC and from that PC, I used OCR to covert what was displayed on screen to google search where questions was easily found online.
I know most of you will find this confusing.
The most difficult part is how you will be able to pass the verification process. This is not to be worried as i have a way to bypass this.
In conclusion, what i am saying is, i can write exams for you from my ends with your live cam as source on my own webcam, while you will be connected remote to my workstation to view the action in realtime.
TELL ME HOW SUCH A COMPLEX SYSTEM CAN BE DETECTED?

let me say this to all students who are taking tests/exams using proctorio or proctorU. when that light comes on that is watching you take that test, think about what they can see. if anyone has to ask you to pick up your laptop and say, "Pan the room, please", that means that they cannot see what is around you. some of these exams are just ridiculous, filled with all kinds of things that we are not interested in at all in retaining, but we do it because it is required. in a nutshell, if you find yourself in a bind and you know you don't know the stuff you need for those exams, do what you need to do. think. turn that WIFI off. now THAT is what you need to do. turn the WIFI off. figure out how you are going to pass the course. i am by no means encouraging cheating, but what are you going to do when it comes down to the come down and you don't know that stuff? your laptop has a left side and a right side. it also is being supported by a table, a bed, or whatever you are taking the exams on. if you cant see, wear glasses. it may dim the proctor's view of your eyeballs as they shift left to right, but at least you will be able to complete the exam with a satisfactory grade. read between the lines.

You could also put a clear piece of tape on the camera itself. That way it can still see you but it’s slightly more blurry. Add that with the glasses trick and you got yourself an easy test

Thank You so much! I had an online proctored exam and turned of the wifi on my phone. And just put my on my laptops webcam blindspot and searched all the answers with my 4G network

The way he is saying the tips, almost whispered, it's almost like we're outside the classroom trying to get as much info out to cheat before we go in. And btw TURNING OFF THE WIFI connected to your phone to use your phone is probably the biggest piece of advice to use because you can hide your phone all you want but if you're using the same ip address that your proctored exam is getting your data from then you might as well just tell your professor your cheating as the test starts.

The usual method that I use is I stick papers on the wall behind my laptop because my teachers never made me scan the room, but if they have that crazy software that scans your room I guess you can put some posters over them that barely hang there and put a thin thread trough the top corner and after you scan the room pull the posters down from the wall and you can see your papers again. I’m gonna try this method next week, hope it works

The problem is it's difficult to put 150 random answers on a sticky note.
1. Get a friend
2. Get a spare laptop and open docs, dumps or reviewer
3. Advised him/her to stay beside you, make sure he/she didn't caught in webcam.
4. Instruct him/her on what to do. Like Ctrl F for the sample questions and search for the answer.
5. Make a choice for example:
One tap on your feet is Letter A or 1st choice
Two tap on your feet is Letter B or 2nd choice
Three tap on your feet is Letter C or 3nd choice
Fourth tap on your feet is Letter D or 4th choice
6. Practice it before the actual online exam.
Got this idea in watching BAD Genius movie, they create hand movements on the exam.
I have really long arms so I'd usually just hold my phone behind my webcam and Google questions that way. My eyes would appear to be focused on the webcam but they're really on my phone. If the questions are too long to type out, I use Socratic out of view of the camera. Another way is to get some test banks for your book and hope that the professor uses them for the test.

@@SMEbeats Nope, I've made sure to practice ahead of time before the actual test. Like I would FaceTime a friend on my computer and ask them when they can see my phone or fingers, so I know not to move my phone anywhere around that area during the real test. I even put a little read sticker on that area of my screen to mark it as the "no man zone".

Few more ways
1. keep your phone on the screen and attach a wireless mouse to it. In that way you can use the phone freely while looking like you are using the screen
2. Pass a HDMI cable through the door to the other room where you can have helpers that see the question, solve it for you and send it to you through whatsapp on the phone that's placed on your screen which you can navigate through easily using wireless mouse.
(I'm a little skeptical about detection of hdmi through software. If you know more about this plz reply)

@@matcha6860 using mouse you can type on your normal keyboard that appears on the screen. Just keep in mind that you need to keep virtual keyboard on. It will come while you allow settings for mouse.

Actually you don't have to worry so much about using your data. The IP tracking your teachers/professors tell you is just a scare tactic to prevent you from cheating. It's literally illegal for them to peer into your sensitive data, but definitely use a VPN just in case.

HOW TO CHEAT: wear a small bluetooth earbud that can be covered easily by a hat, beanie, or your hair, play your notes on your phone via an audio file, try to keep it short and consise. For extra easy split your notes into multiple audio files, compile them into a single playlist that repeats itself (preferably not on shuffle lol). then you can pause and skip to the next part of your notes if you earbud has a button for audio controls. Keep your hand next to your ear as if you are leaning on it, as opposed to picking your hand up and putting it back down, and everything looks natural. No eye movement, no notes, not funny business. Just audio that only you can hear. If your bluetooth has a light on it, most do, it never hurts to put a piece of black tape over that light or to stick a push pin down there and grind it out (99/100 times this will not hurt your device only break the light). Try to find the smallest bluetooth on amazon and try it out, don't worry about reviews too much you aren't going for quality earbuds, just small and in working order is the only requirements. Good luck.

Write really short notes or formulas on a piece of scotch tape and put it on your screen as close to center as possible.
Get a thin piece of plexiglass and secure it over your monitor, but not over the camera. Similar in concept to those privacy screen covers, except this is clear and can now be used to make notes on with a fine tip dry erase marker. So now all your notes are “on the screen”, your never looking away from your screen, and its completely transparent so its not blocking your view.
Although I’m sure that the test content is placed as close to center screen as possible at all times as a way of providing the proctors with a baseline for where your eyes should be with as little movement as possible, and makes it much more noticeable when your eyes aren’t looking where the test content was placed on screen. I think notes on or around your screen is just a sure way to get caught, cuz they can easily tell when someone is reading something.
On the other hand you could buy one of those hidden button cameras and a wireless earpiece that is small enough to hide inside your ear, and just have a buddy read the screen for you and feed you information. Or a single regular Bluetooth hearing aid with volume turned down connected to your phone and just any small camera positioned in the webcam’s blind spot above the keyboard tilted up at the screen for a third party to help you out.
It’s times like this that make me jealous of my 4yr old having cochlear implants.
I actually just went to Lowe’s and bought some thin plexiglass. I’m about to do a no credit practice test for Gen Chem and then a for real test later today, so I’m gonna test it out. I drew circles around the center to help me gauge where my notes need to be in comparison to where the test content is, so I’m still looking right where they want me to. I’ll come back here with some follow up afterwards and let you know how it went. Wish me luck. 🤞🏻

It actually worked very well.
I used light green fine tip dry erase to write my notes and what not and mounted it over my screen making sure not to cover the camera. Just do your best to write your notes in areas that won't be covering the text on the test. But even if it does, that why I used green so that its transparent and doesnt make it difficult to read the test.
I didn't end up passing the test and I had to drop the class, but that was my own fault for just not having good enough study habits.
I would recommend this method for anyone as a supplement to studying. Make sure that you are familiar with the material your being tested on and use this just as quick references, formulas, etc.
