    If you have fuses popping everytime you plug it in, once you plug the ECM in that means you have a short somewhere in the wiring harness, do yourself a visual inspection before assuming your PCM is bad. Also test your power, ground and signal on your PCM wiring harness to see if everything is good, if not then that will tell you if things are bad as well.

    Great video very informative. The only item I might add is instead of blowing all those fuses you can use a volt meter, using neg on one end of the fuse circuit and the positive on the other side when you plug in the pcm you will get a voltage reading. If the circuit is not shorted than it will remain a zero value. Just saving a couple of penny’s and not having the fuse you need at the time because you used all your inventory

    What's up J.T.
    I have an 08 g. caravan 3.8 that's 62te is seriously screwing with me. Its got about 140,000 miles on it. There's a lot to write to get you the related history on current problem, (main problem us that it only drives on 3rd gear, generating a P0731 1st gear ratio error). After cruising CZcams for guidance for the last 10-12 weeks I am most impressed with your knowledge, your channel, and your consistent ability to keep it short and sweet. I've subscribed and hope you might be able to help me out.

    • @OnlineMechanicTips
      @OnlineMechanicTips  Před rokem +1

      Hey Paul theres really no good news when it come to the speed error codes like that P0731. The problem likely internal because that TCM have away to test the sensor first. Thats an error in 1st gear. Theres an underdrive clutch applied and a low reverse holding clutch activated in 1st gear. Problems ive seen with those are the seals inside the input clutch assembly. The trans will likely have to come out for either repair or replacement.

    great job sir. i absolutely love how you break the diags down. you seem to be an electrical genius. I've watched several of your videos and subbed your channel. i am a mechanic for over 40 yrs and have never been strong with 12 volt/car computer systems, I've always referred these types of problems to my buddy that has more knowledge about these than myself. sadly he retired and moved across the country. it just so happened that my 1999 300M that is near and dear to my heart as it was my mothers, {its been garage kept in Arizona and has very low miles} developed a no crank and no com with PCM when i put my scanner on it. i do know the starter is good. fuses and relays are good. I'm 99% sure the TIPM is good. what leads me to believe the PCM is bad is that when the ignition is switched on the PCM emits a high frequency sound like a ringing in the ears sound. almost like electronics frying, and when i wiggle the PCM a bit the pitch changes, what do you think the chances are the PCM has fried? I've been doing my damdest to research this and reading the schematics and everything points to the PCM. I'm the kind of guy that very rarely asks for help. my buddy tried helping me long distance but its hard to diag from afar. any input would greatly appreciated. thanks for the vids.

      ... That whining electrical noise that you're describing could be bad capacitors.
      Have you had a phones USB charger plug go bad? Sometimes you'll hear that same kind of high-pitched whining noise from those devices. So if it's the same kind of noise ... I'd be suspicious of capacitors.
      I'm sorry I can't help more than that, I'm dealing with my own Mazda PCM intermittent no crank issues... And of course it has to be remote. Ugh.

    Not necessarily a PCM. Had the same issue and that relay you talking about feeds the fuel pump and the fuel pump had a short I was also ready to call a PCM but after removing the relay the fuse did not pop anymore so I turned to the fuel pump and found the fuel pump wire positive shorted to the frame by the fuel tank. Always go that extra mile and the relay was right in front of that fuse. Wonder what was your outcome? Was it the pcm or something else.

    You are a great mechanic. A little mean to fuses. But you can't make an omelet without breaking eggs. You should have plugged the C1 in and then installed the fuse. It would have still blown but at least we would have known it wasn't from plugging it in.

  • @carlovincetti4538
    @carlovincetti4538 Před 2 lety +3

    Make sure the relay for that circuit is not shorted which normally wont happen but if not you have to be correct because nothing else is on that circuit but the relay.
    The short must be internal.

    • @OnlineMechanicTips

    That breakout box can be a lifesaver and I think that Charger is the same generation as mine. Another thing to add to the list of tools I'd like to have. If the fuse keeps blowing something is shorted. If you have a pcm for that car maybe you can pop it in to double check. I'd be hitting closest yard with a Charger RT like mine it that happened to mine seeing how I can't afford the dealer rates.

      Wow one idiot in my area said my car needed a new engine. Well I'm hard headed a little and had it towed to another who couldn't fix it. The 3rd mechanic is the man. He replaced my ecm he called it ignition control module and it took him awhile to go over car and take time to look into mine cause he is real busy but he put em in and no problems not it's been 3+ years. I put a vacume gadge on car and it's got all normal engine readings. Some will rip people off around this area but I'm learning a lot. I'm only used to old school cars like my last car was a 77 Buick Electra with no ecm or injectors. It had hei ignition. A great car.

    Seeing that in this post you're working on a 5.7 hemi I got an 06 Jeep Grand Cherokee and currently I've been getting an alert on the dash saying that the transmission is over tempature, I had a mechanic check it out and he came to the conclusion that the water pump had problems it was replaced for a few hours it was ok the alert didn't pop again till the next day. In my research on the CZcams rabbit hole it could be either be the computer or a sensor/sensors what do you recommend I check first and how much do you think it would cost to get it fixed?

    I have a 05 Chrysler 300 v6 I have a bunch of codes and o2 sensor and engine light is on. I replaced sensors but I tried to reset the codes but the codes and engine light won’t clear at all. The car runs and drives fine.
    Engine light never goes away even though I cleared the codes. Wondering why

      Hey bud, there are times when the drivers inside the controller (pcm) simply fail. When this happen, those codes will stay active at all time.If you are 100% certain theres no wiring short to thos O2 sensors or if youve load tested the circuit and its ok, you simply have a shorted controller. If you looking at scan tool data, and you unplug the O2 sensor in question and the volt/value do not change, then yes the drivers shorted. The good news is that they now sell pre programmed controllers

    anything the pcm operates can pop that fuse

    • @OnlineMechanicTips
      @OnlineMechanicTips  Před 2 lety +1

      True, but im sure that anything you referring to also protected by a fuse. So if its shorted, that short should have never made it to the pcm. The PCM heavily protected from loaded devices except in this case apparently. Watch part 2 to see what I mean. Its crazy and seems un-explainable.
