      what they mean is no big chrome blower sticking out of the hood, no stripes and spoilers, no NASCAR side boom exhaust. In the 1970's, you really couldn't hide a performance car, but computers and EFI and turbos have changed that game, along with much better tires. and of course, now we know performance when we see it, not because the car has slicks sticking out of the back fenders, a massive California rake, holley blue pumps hanging out the back like fangs, and a stupid Pro Stock hood scoop with headers hanging down like dog balls between the front a arms.

    I remember working in the dealership mid to late eighties and driving these and the T-Types bad ass cars. Would spank those corvettes ass. When GM stopped production of these vehicles, they had these engines left over. They put the left over drive trains in the I believe 20th or 21st Trans Am Anniversary models. They only came in white exterior and tan interior. They were faster that’s the G-Nationals because of the uni-body car. I only saw one come through the dealership I worked at and actually did the PDI on it. Just FYI for all the people that didn’t know this.

    I still own my 87 GN w/52k on the clock. His build is very similar to mine but I have a precision 67 turbo and a few more goodies than this one. If you have a GN putting down 600+ to the wheels, not many newer production cars can beat them. Power to weight ratio is a huge factor! I've never lost to a Hellcat, Z06, or even the mustang Gt350. Never ran the Gt 500, YET! NICE CAR AND COOL VIDEO...

    • @albertgaspar627
      @albertgaspar627 Před 10 měsíci +1

      true, the new cars are amazing (and I can understand why "the kids don't like the old cars anymore" thing...the LS is 2 decades old, they grew up with that potential sitting in the junkyards for cheap). but with the computers and safety equipment, they're toting around a lot of curb weight, and that's felt on initial tip-in. combined with a small (relatively) displacement, and you've got something like an old DZ 302...feels great on the pull but not so much on the launch if you don't powerbrake it or have a stiff set of gears.

Shawn is an expert on the Sy/ty stuff what we probably are gonna have to do to make them more dependable is convert them to holley efi. It gets rid of the old computer and wiring harness which seems to be the issue with these vehicles. The 4.3 is a 350 missing two cylinders so its a great motor. I love mine. I had a audi pull up on me yesterday and try me. I have a slightly bigger than stock turbo running methonal. My engine and transmission have been rebuilt but I retained the stock rotating assembly. New down pipe and exhaust. I think dude was a little off on his tourqe numbers most grandnationals tourqe numbers are 100 over the horsepower. Stock was 245hp with tourqe 355. My engine builder when I asked him of my numbers told me 425hp to the wheels but the horsepower numbers aren't important its the tourqe at 500 550 gets it moving pretty fast.

      Torque gets you off the line. HP gets you across the finish line.

    Love these old g bodies. Had a t type when I was a kid. This nash looks perfect. I wish they didn't sound so terrible.
