- Retirement - How to Live a Happy life in Retirement
Our interpretation of a happy life differs from person to person. It depends a great deal on our personal philosophy of what life is about - and particularly for our self. The less worry, the less anxiety, and even the less wanting, plays its part.
I’m inclined to go along with the views of the late Stephen R Covey, famous author of “The Seven Habits of Highly Successful People,” and his follow up book, “The 8th Habit.” In this last, he mentions four things which are important. He called them, IQ, EQ, PQ, and SQ.
Meaning?
Intelligence Quotient, Emotional Quotient, Physical Quotient, and Spiritial Quotient. All other them reside within us. It’s up to us as individuals to give importance - and balance - to the lot.
You're making every person who has watched one of your videos happy. That's a lot of people!
Glad you feel that way, Brendan. Thanks for that very gratifying remark.
You kind of come off as jealous
You are a treasure I've always wanted everyone who crosses my path to benefit in some way,my regret is not being smart enough to understand how best to benefit in each opportunity Peace
Growing up in a poor family money meant survival and as an adult it was hard to let go of this survival mode… accumulating money felt very important. To be honest it was fear of poverty in old age that motivated us. Having been poor I knew in detail what that was like, not everyone can imagine the grinding dullness of frugal living.
True, BoninBrighton. Yet I was brought up in England in WW2. Everyone was, by today's standards, poor. And when everyone is, you just don't notice it.
I was fired at the as of 51. They did me a favor. I live cheap and enjoy free time. I'm 65 now and in very good shape. Not working for 14 Years has been great.
Good to hear that, Peter. You got a head start on most. I hope you continue enjoying the time ahead.
Your message today is quite powerful.
Thanks, Jodzinoz123.
Very uplifting and inspiring wisdom Tom. Thank you as always. Sean.
Thank you, Sean. Always good to hear from you. I hope you've settled in now and it's all going well.
@@arthurthomasware5004 Going well Tom. Still finding my feet and purpose, but it's coming. Sean :)
In the US we always talk about "old" people like it's a disease. But many cultures show greater respect for their elders as they have hopefully gained the wisdom of experience. You are living proof of that wisdom, and your message will change people. Just a few minutes of video can make a difference.
May your voyage lead you into the most wonderous places!
Thanks so much for those kind words, MisterCrabs, they're much appreciated. There is, of course, a vested interest by many different types of companies in keeping people 'looking young' which, I think adds to this business of "once old, we're out of the picture."
Thought provoking video. In 2 years I’ll be in retirement and need to think about my new life’s purpose. Thanks
Thanks, Dorinatudisco130. Hope these videos are helpful to you.
come to California it's around 70F. the people are crazy but the weather is great.
That's a wonderful temperature, Cali4Tune. We started using Celsius some years back, but to me, Fahrenheit gives a closer reading. It's late winter here in Sydney. Pretty mild though compared with much of the USA.
Important message
Tom I watch all your videos and for me this is definitely the best video I’ve seen you do I read from strength to strength from reply to m C Brookes which was an absolute game changer. I am 51 and I’ve been asking myself a lot of questions. I run my own business I work in education and I love inspiring young kids and teachers and I was thinking of calling it a day. Asking myself am I to old? I’ve getting tired and getting too tired but since watching your video since reading from strength to strength. I’ve decided lower the revs and keep doing what I love to do as I know it makes kids happy and if they’re happy, I’m happy thank you for another great video.
Well said Tom
Thanks, John.
Another video that is calming and inspiring! Thankful for your creative energy.
You are so welcome, Eddie.
These days it is famine for the Soul while for you Senes it is feast were words I once heard, and now as time goes by I understand it more and more.
Glad that you do, Jerome. Many thanks for your regular posts.
Thanks so much for the content
My pleasure, Lulucly.
Hi Arthur, took the plunge and retired last week. I've also signed up to be a volunteer at a wildlife rehab/rescue organization here in WA so hopefully, I will be working toward the greater good. I'm still on holiday and haven't actually officially 'left' the job yet but freedom awaits. I expect it'll be a learning curve in more ways than one.
Sounds great, Genevieve. Hope it all works out for you.
Outstanding message Tom, thank you very much for sharing this!
My pleasure, Hailey. And thank you for posting a comment.
thanks mate, that just made me happy
Glad I could help, ulix4
Great video Arthur. Yes, nice and cool in Brisbane, Queensland as well. Not long until glorious sunny warm days are hear - what a lucky, free and safe country we live in.
The best, Nannie Cath.
im 40 ive worked out in 20 yrs my body corp fees for my unit will be about $16,000 a yr, + $16,000 a yr in rates, that it totally unaffordable for me, i need to sell up and buy a house in the countryside somewhere, tom ever been to broken hill or mt isa? houses there are still pretty cheap compared to the major cities
I'm assuming you know Australian pretty well, Pete. I've been to Broken Hill but not Mt. Isa. Both were once booming mining towns. Both very hot places to live in the summer. Getting employment might be the biggest challenge. Depends on what you do.
@@arthurthomasware5004 plan is to live off my dividend income, id rather retire at 50 and have to move to a regional town and never work again than slave away till i drop dead in a big city just to afford body corp fees and rates
Wise words again, thank you.
Thanks for listening, Lassek2719
Thank you for sharing Enlightening
Glad it was helpful, Oscar. And I appreciate you posting so regularly.
Sir,
Have you come across Ikigai?
A popular Japanese practice for long and happy life
Yes, Freddy, I have. I'm quite familiar with the concept and thoroughly agree with it tenets.
Great post Tom..I can identify with your epiphany as much the same happened to me as well and feel more fulfilled as a human being....thanks again.
Thanks for that, Roscoe. Yes, it seems to be happening more and more frequently nowadays.
and then swing by Tucson AZ
Thanks, Jim. Hope it's not to hot over there at present.
Do you think that we are here to serve ?
Robin Sharma is a Canadian, not an American.
Sorry, Sarah. My mistake. A awful lot of good talent comes out of Canada.
