Only Boomers are buying guns now.. and they don’t really buy multiple. They buy it and put it away. No one else has el jobo, so they are selling what they can do without to survive. Guns are actually hard to hold if one doesn’t have a stable home l, ie lost their job and probably their living situation got tossed. The guns draw a lot of attn and flak from law enforcement which are the bigger threat right now, not vandals. Cops are the vandals. Having a weapon when dealing with cops makes it worse never better

People are reevaluating their priorities and are finding out they don't need all the guns they have. It's nice to have a collection of firearms bur if you need $$$ selling locker queens makes sense to people. I have unloaded about 1/3 of my collection for need of money realizing I'll never shoot it, can't afford ammo and figured out what I really need for protection since I don't hunt anymore. I have some non- federal firearms paper work guns, family hand me downs, and EDC. During covid my local gun dealer was lacking in some desirable firearms that I happened to have. Sold them for a lot more than I bought them for, so mad out pretty good. Had some friends that wanted some firearms at lower price than retail, so, sold them. I'm now where I am comfortable with what I have and is pretty decent collection even though smaller than 5 years ago. Sales paid for vacations, taxes and auto repairs. Still have a little cash put away just in case that once in a lifetime a gun comes up for sale, and I've been wanting it for years

In other words they spent money foolishly when they had it instead of building up a reserve or investing in something that would actually make money.
What most of these people did was to spend every excess dollar they had on guns (and other toys), buying at the peak of the market prices, and now they're rushing to sell them and will be lucky to get 40 cents on the dollar of what they paid.
It's a crack head investment strategy.

I don’t see a lot of randoms desperately looking for any type of gun. Nowadays there are so many options on the shelf that folks are strategizing and researching. Selling several safe queens for a non safe queen, etc. Selling two of the four 9s, etc. All of our gun stores are seeing sales and the gunsmiths are backed up. Every time I visit a shop, I’m seeing people come in and either buy a gun or ammo. Every time.

Groceries rent utilities mortgage payments all on the up up up. So bought a new pistol recently cause the store had a sale so I got it for a good price. But I sold 3 other guns that were duplicates or that were similar to other guns I own. For all the things I listed groceries being number one. I have a small family and it’s killing us to eat. Between me and my wife we make a good living a few years back we would have been considered middle class. I don’t feel that way anymore I feel more in the working poor class. Can’t afford to buy a home that’s for sure. People are struggling and worse then we are so I’m not complaining there is always someone worse off. I’m not surprised people are selling there guns or anything else I see more and more people in my area having garage sales and that always been Normal but I have never seen so many of them. You battle the inflation by working and trying to save but it doesn’t work cause everything keeps going up god forbid we have to pay for a car repair or something unexpected comes up your screwed. Something has to give we can’t keep on like this cause what’s the point work 50 hours a week to just get by? The pursuit is all that’s guaranteed and that’s fine you work hard you can make it but when the game feels very much rigged against you. People will only take that for so long. And god help you if you have to pay the government back taxes they won’t cut you any breaks. The interest there charging you on the money there taking from you for what? To send to Ukrainian? Or to give illegals money when they break the law coming here? Yeah again something has to change and shame on anyone who votes for these clowns who have ran are country into the grown the last few years those people deserve this you voted with your feeling or you were easily manipulated by the media well you made your bed so enjoy it.

I think political times some might sell a spare or unused gun for ammo or the fact that suppressors are easier to get and will get targeted as far as 2a rights go before your extra pistol or rifle more than likely. People tend to think about what they feel they need as necessities over abundance/collecting. Have 5 9mm pistols and no 22/shotgun. Sell one for that maybe but you did say not trading in as much but what you want might not be in stock so you purchase it elsewhere

As the public and politicians don't like private sales and the get a better price through a shop

I just went to a store who said it won't buy any more, then went to the big outdoor chain store and had to stand in line. One guy in front of me was selling an estate of 24 guns. Others were like me. I am in my late 60s, with back problems and have been slowly selling off my heavier and higher powered guns because I just can't stand and hold them or their recoil anymore. I went from 12 to 20 to 410 in shotguns, 357 to 9 to 380 and now 32 in handgun and 30-06 to .223 to .22 in rifle. I have fewer. The ones I have can be held and shot with great precision and they are quality guns.
Your bigger problem is the next generation. I have belonged to big religious/civic organizations and most people just show up for the free breakfast and do nothing. Most importantly, they don't bring in new members (read younger). These organizations die overnight when the few leaders died or moved and the followers did not step up. I have been watching the gun culture dying in this country as outdoor stores focus more on fishing than shooting and states make it more difficult to hold competitions by outlawing the very guns we compete with. In fishing they had "take a kid fishing' days. You need this and more with guns because unlike fishing, a kid can't just go in the closet and take the guns like fishing poles and go out and use them.

I'd sell a few to get the two I really want. Is that what you're talking about?
I've got a huge jonesing for the Beretta A300 Ultima Tactical and a .357 lever action. I already have the ammo, so why not? And I've got at least half a dozen I would quickly sell in order to make that happen.
As far as selling vs buying, good guns aren't cheap, and money is tighter than it has been in maybe most folks lifetimes.
