    Great stuff Gezza.
My old man played in the twos for the Shinboners in the 50's,
i used to go to/get taken to the games at Arden St in those days when I was a kid.
Might have a roast lunch before the game at the pub in Dryburgh st , which had barmen wearing white shirts and bow ties, washed down with a lime and soda.
Once I was taken, pre game, through the North dressing room which all those legendary players populated, what a thrill.
At that same match Malcolm Fraser, a Carlton supporter and then current Prime Minister was in attendance, sitting in the member's stand.
I will never forget the shellacking he got from the crowd in general admission yelling deserved insults at him.
A meat pie, a can of choke and a Mars bar did for sustenance at the Arden St ground.
I was left to free range, pretty sure my old man was catching up with old mates at the bar.
Thanks Gezza, I dunno where you get this stuff from but it is great.

When going to the football was enjoyable, today it is boring.

Barassi's edict of "no drop-kicks" upon arriving at North was basically the beginning of Modern Football. We can still see the odd drop-kick being deployed by various players from other clubs in 1973 (most notably Francis Bourke) but very few after this, and it made the game faster and more skilful. I was at my grandmother's on Grand Final night 1975. My soon-to-be North uncle arrived with my aunt for dinner and still can't recall ever seeing a happier person.
Not keen on the National League and the destruction it has wrought, both to the game and city and Barassi was a key progenitor of this, but perhaps that's for another day. Great vid.

Barry Cable was still kicking drop kicks in the '77 GF, Barassi was coach then.

Being the Tiger you are you'd no doubt recall the day at Arden St when Blight snapped one on his left from deep inside the left forward pocket and then proceeded to do it again twice for good measure. Barassi dragged him, irate that he hadn't centred it and challenged him the next Tuesday at training to do it again. Blight had ten tries and barely missed one and Barassi never pulled up again after that. Perhaps he had a similar agreement with Cable? I do now recall Cable kicking the odd drop-kick but it was rare. Perhaps Cable wasn't even at Arden St in '73 when the edict was issued - I'd have to check that.

@@hanajinks1044 go look at replays of the 2 GFs from '77. He was still kicking them. In a GF. Cable played at North in 1970 and then again from '74-77.
Last Tiger I saw do a drop kick was Sheedy, right up until he retired in early '79.

My late brother loved the Kangas, going to be so sad seeing them run out in 2024 for their first game without him here, so glad the last game he saw them win. Whilst he won't be able to see them in person, i know he'll be looking down on them with pride. R.I.P Tom Pavlovic

Probably would not exist as a club now if Barassi had not turned them into a power in the 1970's.
Sydney Swans were just about dead as a club in Sydney in early 1990's until Barassi turned up there to turn them around to create a real football club culture with the staff and players there. Other than the people that actually invented the game, Ron Barassi would have to be the most important person for Australian Rules Football in the sports history.
