Stuart, Your approach is first class, what a great channel! I really believe you are trailblazing with the quality of your videos (it's more like a mini tv programme). Precise, concise, systematic, informative and always upbeat and entertaining, thanks for your excellent work! We all note your extensive use of the multi-purpose pump clamps, they're great assistants, and they never take a tea break, couldn't live without them! lol

the author does like to from scratch, shaping and trimming wood from large blocks into fine finished products. czcams.com/users/postUgkxD-QRFQz730FJEh4f9BYSf-nkIMIC9hL_ as another reviewer mentioned, most projects require a lot of high-dollar equipment that most of us dont have the room or budget for. But, knowing how to do these things, even if we wont be able to practice the full stack project, is still great.

Yes I agree completely. Stuarts model of the bracing principle was the best explanation I have ever seen. Its something I always used to struggle with (ie which way they should go). Its amazing how often you see gates and doors fitted the wrong way round - quite often in TV and film sets lol.

Just came across your videos and I really like them. You explain things in such an easy manner, and explain in detail so that a lay person can understand. You are a grate teacher. My Grandfather was a master carpenter. You remind me of my father he also spoke in a easy manner and could explain things so easily. Even though he was not a carpenter by trade he custom made all my kitchen cabinets for my house (I had purchased a fixer upper that had had a fire and the kitchen was completely gutted). That was 30 years ago. I have his tools and a small shed.

Thank you!. I found your channel by accident and subbed after 30 seconds. Your clarity and presentation is first class and thank you thank you thank you for not doing the "just take your timber to your ÂŁ5000 table saw then run it through your ÂŁ1250 rebate machine and finish off with the ÂŁ3000 auto finisher and there you are a homebuilt gate simply made". Most people will eventually end up with the tools you use but most importantly you show HOW things are done clearly and you approach things in a thoughtful way. I've never seen anyone explain cross bracing so clearly.

Just the video I have been looking for ! About to add a gate to my garden fence project and was unsure about it's construction for optimum strength , side clearances etc (45 degree braces orientation were going to be a bit of a lucky guess, not now, and the 'wee model gate' was class)! Cheers 'Proper DIY'. I am a toolmaker and tend to over-engineer everything but this gate is pretty much as how I would like mine to end up. Even the Hook & Band hinges are the same as I was intending to use because of the weight of my gate (I was going to use three 16" ones) Much obliged and I will subscribe and keep an eye out for future projects. Thanks again for the clear and easy to follow video. Kenny, Dundee, Scotland.

I like the overlap design on the slats (Cladding). I Will have to consider that when doing the next fence.

This is the best gate video I’ve watched, not because you built the best gate but you took the time to explain how and why.

Excellent video of 'how to make a garden gate', i knew some of it like the angle bracing which you explained brilliantly and more easier/better than i have seen in other videos, so thank you for your instructional build and keep up these very educational videos.
    Stay Safe,
