  • A collection update/rundown of all the 4K and blu ray movies I added to my collection over the last four months. Note: I made a slight error in the video... I didn't realize I had done a collection update in Feb., so it's only been four months since my last update, not 6-7. Fortunately, I don't think I repeated too many titles from the previous update (just one that I'm aware of).

    Action Jackson has been on my wishlist for a while, especially since Carl Weathers passed.
    I almost did get it recently when I was ordering something else from Orbit, but it would have meant spending more than I wanted to at the time. Been trying to have a little discipline and save up for the big summer sales 😅

    Action Jackson was an 80s who's who of the genre. 3 main actors from Predator. Predator's stunt coordinator directed. Also 4 actors from Die Hard and ol Joel Silver producing, bringing some of his signature massive explosions and burning stuntmen. Good times.

    Thanks for the update Fuzz. I really need to get The Town on 4k. One of my favorites from that time period. Just made some additions of my own. Shout Studios has had some very nice pricing as of late. Picked up War Games (4k), Southern Comfort, Last Man Standing and Surviving the Game all on Blu-ray. Average price of 17.49 per film. I love a good deal!

      Very cool man! Some great pickups there. I loved revisiting Surviving the Game after having not seen it since the 90s. Great film! The Town 4K is pretty solid... but if I'm being honest, it's not a mind-blowing 4K or anything. It looks good for what it is, but I wouldn't call it demo-worthy 4K disc. Love the film though, so I had to have it in the best available format regardless. I also love that WarGames 4K... saw that film in the theater when I was young, so I've always had quite a bit of nostalgia for that one. The Shout 4K looks fantastic! Definitely the best I've ever seen the film look. But I hear ya... I love a good deal too! Thanks for watching and chiming in here. Great to see you!

    Some solid pickups, there. I have that great looking Basic Instinct 4K and surprised you don’t have it on 4K in the US. Like The Fifth Element, Studio Canal can release some great looking discs, just got to look out for the occasional teal colour grading.
    Thanks for the Action Jackson recommendation as I didn’t know it’d got a Blu-ray release and a bonus it’s on Warner Archive. They’re such a great label with such a broad and diverse catalogue. Which got me thinking, I’d love to see a video of your top 10s for each decade. That’d be quite a fun and interesting one.

    • @TheOriginalFuzz
      @TheOriginalFuzz  Před 6 dny

      Yeah I'm also kind of surprised we've never received a US 4K release of Basic Instinct. You would think that one would be worldwide on the format. But I've been really happy with most of the Studiocanal releases I've seen. They do great work!
      As for your list video suggestion, that's a great idea... though I've already made top 25 list videos for the 70s, 80s and 90s (which of course includes my Top 10 from each decade). Don’t Breathe was good didn’t care for the sequel. I like the Evil Dead remake. Still have strange days on VHS still sealed maybe I’ll finally watch it. Strange that Strange Days has never been available to stream. The German Region B Blu-ray got some negative comments for picture quality, so I've been waiting for a US release, what was your impression of picture quality? I have the StudioCanal remastered Region B Blu-ray of Basic Instinct & it's big improvement over previous versions. Another gem is The Limey Region B remastered Blu-ray, at the time, the US Blu-ray was only available for a few months (not sure about now?) but it was a big improvement over DVD. When I got a 4K OLED TV The Town was one of the first movies I streamed from Vudu, I thought it looked awful* & put it down to being an early 4K release, so I searched for the Directors Cut Blu-ray, much better. *Warner Bros does not always get it right, the 4K stream of The Maltese Falcon from Vudu was awful too!

  • @sonnercampbell1702
    @sonnercampbell1702 Před 6 dny +1

    Mission: Impossible-Dead Reckoning Part 1 is really good, if a little bloated. There’s the short version, read on for my extended thoughts.
    I really enjoy the M:I franchise, it’s probably my favorite action movie franchise. And I really like Dead Reckoning (I saw in theaters, and I own the 4K Steelbook) its got a good premise and good central villain. Hayley Atwell, Pom Kementieff, Shea Whigham, and Greg Tarzan Davis are great additions to the franchise and seem to be having a lot of fun. But it’s all goes on a little too long; particularly its action sequences, while very good, I feel go on longer than is necessary. Structurally it feels like a 2 hour movie blown up to an over 2.5 hour movie.
    As for the “Part 1” ness of it all, I think it does it pretty well. The main plot isn’t resolved but ends at a good break point, but what saves it, in my opinion, from feeling like half a movie is that a character’ (I won’t say which) arc is resolved and is complete

    • @TheOriginalFuzz
      @TheOriginalFuzz  Před 6 dny +1

      Very cool... yeah I think the runtime is probably the main reason I haven't gotten around to it yet. When a film gets to be over 2.5 hours, I have to be in the mood for that kind of a time investment these days. But I do really like all the MI films.. they're all so much fun, and so well done with all of Cruise's kick-ass stunt work, etc.. So I expected Dead Reckoning would be decent at the very least. Though I'll admit, if the runtime had been kept to 2 hours or less, I probably would've watched it by now. But I'll definitely be getting to it soon. Thanks for watching and chiming in! Appreciate it.

    How many of the videos you buy do you actually enjoy? I’ve been where you’re at, and just bought everything that was released, before actually watching them. I’ve got tens of Hundreds of videos, and only a small percentage are films I want to watch again, and even fewer that I enjoy over and over again. Most of the “new” 4k releases are updates of movies I likely own on DVD or Blu-ray, so unless it falls in the rare set of movies I want to rewatch often, I’m not feeling the need to repurchase.
    Some films I’ve owned on VHS, DVD, Blu-ray, and now 4k, but those are rare.

    • @TheOriginalFuzz
      @TheOriginalFuzz  Před 6 dny +2

      Honestly, that's not really where I'm at, nor is it how I collect. To answer your question, how many movies do I buy that I actually enjoy and will watch again? Oh I'd say probably about 95 percent. Because I'm actually into curating... I don't just buy everything that's released (not even close lol). My tastes are for specific genres and subgenres, and there are many genres I don't even care about or buy titles from. Yes, I do blind buy quite a bit within the genres I like, because I love discovering old movies I missed out on... and I want to experience them for the first time in the best available quality. It's fun! But I usually do a lot of research upfront and only buy titles for which I have a strong indication I will like (from reading reviews, watching trailers, getting recommendations from friends, if the film genre/premise lines up with my tastes, etc.). And that's served me pretty well... there are very few titles in my collection that I don't like to at least some degree, and there have been very few blind buys that I actually regret purchasing. Occasionally I will get a dud, but I just think that's part of the discovery process and comes with the territory. Most of the time, my blind buys work out great, because I only buy the kind of movies I like. I just happen to like a lot of movies lol. And if I'm buying a title for the first time and it's available on 4K, then yes, most of the time I will go with the 4K edition... because I'm a huge fan of the 4K format and, in particular, what the format can do for older movies shot on film.
      Also, I don't need to want to watch a film over and over again in order to add it to my collection. The number of times I will watch a film is largely irrelevant to my desire to own a physical copy of the movie (in most cases). Some films I will watch more than others, but I still want to own them all regardless... because I'm passionate about movies and collecting physical media. I usually watch at least one movie every night, and I like having my own personal video store curated to my tastes. So this is just my way of preserving films in my life and ensuring that I'll always have all the titles I want... when or if I want to revisit them. I even refer to my collection as my "Geezer collection," because I view collecting physical media as future-proofing for my twilight years.
      Thanks for watching and commenting.

      @@TheOriginalFuzz Dude, I loved that new Alien Romulus trailer! I know its just a trailer but this guy seems to get it when it comes to the Alien horror vibe and the look and feel of the 1979 Alien movie. I'm hoping its a great mixture of Alien and Aliens. I really love Blade Runner but Alien is probably my favorite Ridley movie. Definitely those two for me. Cameron's Terminator and Aliens are by far my favorite of his. I know most people love Terminator 2 and I love it as well but to me personally, the first Terminator from 1984 is by far the better movie to me. I love the horror element and I prefer Arnold the killer rather than the joking terminator friend to Conner in the second film. But hey, both are great! I believe I heard you say in one of your videos that you and your dad went to see Terminator in the theater., thats awesome and I wish I would have saw that in 1984 as a 13 almost 14 year old. Aliens in 1986 was the first rated R movie I got to see in the theater. I turned 16 in 86 and was dying to see Aliens and got to see it with a friend of mine who was a couple years older. What can you say about Aliens other than its an incredible 80s classic, just like The Terminator. I hope you have a great weekend Fuzz! I 'm loving your content. By the way, I heard you talking about "The Beekeeper" so I watched it. I have to say it was a very fun action movie that had that 90s action vibe. Probably my favorite Statham movie so thank you for the recommendation! Take care brother!

      @@MDEAL70 Holy shit, I feel like I just got done reading a comment written by myself! LMAO!🤣😉 So we were both born in 1970, we both have the exact same view of The Terminator relative to T2, we both have the same view on Ridley's Alien, and if I read/remember right, I think we both have the same top 3 movies as our favorites (or at least, same 3 or 4 movies high up in our top 10?). Plus, it's very cool how you got to see Aliens in the theater, and I didn't... but I got to see Terminator, and you didn't. So we have a little balance there LMAO!😆 But seriously, I wish I'd seen Aliens in the theater back in 86. Unfortunately, I was a bit of a late bloomer with Alien and didn't get into the franchise until probably 2-3 years after Aliens came out. But yes, I have fond memories of seeing Terminator in the theater with my dad in '84. Probably one of the most impactful theater experiences I ever had. And I think it's the better film of the two Cameron Terminator films... just a different vibe that I like a little more. I'll never forget that first time watching Reese lay it all out for Sarah while they're on the run at high speed and in the garage. I was so engaged and mesmerized by what was happening on screen... my 13 year-old brain was just eating it all up! Lol!😆
      Anyway, I also felt the same way about the Romulus trailer... really got the impression that this guy was "getting it" with the vibe and tone and atmosphere. Can't wait to see it. I don't even get out to theaters all that often these days, but I'm definitely gonna hit the Dolby Digital Cinema for Alien Romulus... and get the full Atmos experience.
      Glad to hear you liked The Beekeeper! I felt the exact same way... I got 90s action film vibes from it too, and it's the best Statham film I've seen. Thanks so much for watching and for the great comments man! Really enjoying this exchange.

      @@TheOriginalFuzz Thanks man, I really enjoy our exchanges as well and I was laughing at your last comment because we do have very much in common as far as age, movies and I'm sure music as well!. You're correct, The Terminator, Alien and Aliens are in my top 10 and maybe top 5 but not sure what order because the original Star Wars trilogy is very high on my list as well. I did get to see that entire trilogy in theaters when they were originally released and those movies mean a great deal to me ( even though Disney's bullshit has really soured me on Star Wars as of late). I still love the original trilogy and Star Wars 77 opened my young eyes to the magic of movies! It's a shame my fiancé is really not into sci-fi, she says its not her jam (LOL) but its probably my favorite genre. One difference between you and I is I grew up on the east coast in North Carolina and I'm still there. If I remember right, you're out west somewhere!? lol. Take care man!

      @@MDEAL70Right on! Yes I too saw the original Star Wars trilogy in the theaters, and they've always been very special to me as well. I'll never forget how blown away I was seeing the first Star Wars in the theater at age 6 or 7. And I couldn't agree with you more about Disney -- they've totally destroyed Star Wars. You know initially, I was pretty excited about the sequels when Force Awakens came out, and I even liked Last Jedi at the time. But I didn't really like Rise of Skywalker at all, and as time has passed, I've really soured on the whole sequel trilogy. The more I thought about the sequel trilogy, the more I saw a lot of problems with it, and the less I liked it. I'm definitely not a fan of Kathleen Kennedy... she's really run Lucasfilm into the ground. Biggest mistake Lucas ever made was selling his babies to Disney. So yeah, Disney is definitely on my shit list these days.... they've ruined not just Star Wars, but Marvel as well. Talk about out of touch!!
      Anyway, yes I'm up in the Pacific Northwest... grew up in southern California. BTW, I just noticed you became a Fuzz Club member. Thank you so much for the extra support, Mark! That's so cool. I really appreciate it, and I'm super grateful!

    I like your videos but I feel like you need a without further ado marker on your videos!

    23:09 you could try a piece of transparent scotch tape around the seam on the case?

      @TheOriginalFuzz  Před 6 dny +1

      I actually did that with my first VSA release, once I discovered the "design flaw" (if we can even call it that) and munched up my title a bit. But now that I know, it's not too challenging to get them back in the box... I just have to be careful and make sure the bottom opening of the case is slightly bowed, so that the thin plastic on the case can clear the edge.

      I've heard of that one, and I think I maybe saw like the first 15 minutes years ago, but I don't remember it. I will definitely check it out. Thanks for the tip!

      The video is indexed so you could just skip the intro. That said, I agree that the intros might contain a bit much explanation, ground rules, and apologies. Since it’s free, entertainment, I suppose we shouldn’t be too picky. 😂
