- Breakfast Club co-host Charlamagne tha God visits Hasan on this week’s Deep Cuts for a candid conversation about their respective journeys with mental health and how they cope with anxiety. Charlamagne discusses how going to therapy changed his life and how a relative committing suicide opened up a conversation surrounding mental health within his family that had never happened before.
Charlamagne also reveals who his most heated interview was with (not the one you'd expect) and tells Hasan his reason for pressing Elizabeth Warren on her past Native American ancestry claims. Hasan and Charlamagne then talk 2020 election, The Breakfast Club's importance as an avenue for politicians looking to reach black voters, and if they could beat Desus & Mero in a game of basketball.

The brownest thing I've ever seen is a Bengali dad who's psychopharmacologist and mom who's a psychiatrist telling their daughter she just needs to pray
@@ImTheCookieMonster95 oh my god same.
LOL
@The Elite Killa Represent, same here, brap
That's the thing I hate the most about black people, we don't take mental health seriously, especially like the older generation like my grandmother. Shed tell me to pray.
This is my life. And im bengali
I like how the deep cut is now almost equivalent to an episode. I love it, Hasan at his best in his natural element!
Do these Deep Cuts only come to CZcams? I haven't seen this part of the show on Netflix before.
I think I like the Deep Cuts even more than the episodes.
True!
This is like a podcast with a live audience, I dig it.
A podcast where they stand

@@Dave-mk9bw I kinda like this format though.

'Prayer works. But so does therapy.' Great line.
How, exactly, does praying to an imaginary invisible bi-polar grandaddy with a beard and an accounting fetish, what sits in the sky allegedly watching us all day every day, help someone deal with mental health issues, again?

“I got anxiety so I’m always in a constant state of fear” lmfaoooo same
Apologies to be a little academic here, but I regularly come across this idea (anxiety = fear) in my work. I wouldn't strictly define anxiety as fear. I'm more inclined to say it is about unnecessary worry. Fear is a natural biological and physiological state. Worry is not. Worry is thinking about the past which we cant change or the future which we cant absolutely control (we can take steps towards controlling the future). You can fear in the moment, but a lot of us are unable to worry in the moment...To me, uneccessary worry is what ultimately drives anxiety...

This, I would say, is beautiful, healthy masculinity in action. Not that I'm big on labels generally; there's simply an energy between Hasan and CTG that makes me feel peaceful and hopeful. Open, regenerative, introspective, empathetic. A couple of incredible human beings.
Well said.
I really, really agree. For so long, alongside all the struggles and suffering of women, men also were kind of locked in a box of gender role expectations, used to be they couldn't be real like this on TV. Men & women are growing past that shit together.
Man, Charlemagne is such a troll....
But I respect him so much for saying some of the things he brings up. He's like one of those friends that annoys you, but still makes you think.
Yup. The not so lowkey problematic friend but when he's being straightforward his perspective is in focus. Far better than the ones you can never be serious with tbh.
Ariana M yooo that’s a perfect description of him
I love how he says so casually "Man I only get like 6 weeks of vacation time per year so I need therapy and more.." lol
Yeah I respect the awareness he's spreading for mental health and therapy because the black community needs it definitely. I just also wish everything else he says wasn't typically ignorant or blatantly trollish. But better half troll than full troll I guess
This comment, 💯. The Breakfast Club makes me nuts sometimes bc of Charlemagne, but he really does make you think.
“Who would you have a drink with?”
“WHO WOULD YOU HAVE A DRINK WITH”
“I don’t drink”😂😂😂😂😂😂perfect exchange
They forget he,s Muslim XD

Of course he drinks unless he eats a lot of watermelons and lettuce. He just doesn't drink alcohol. There are a bunch of non alcohol drinks one can get including the Shirley Temple.

I think the best thing you can do with depression is to talk about it. Letting it out. I mean it's what's helping me.

Unfortunate to hear they treated Charlamagne’s wife that way, but it is a real problem in the medical community
Sadly, it seems to be global. It's so weird. How do you get into the business of caring for people but not care about people?

Interesting watching this nearly a year later....
on the trying not be late thing, I have been told by an actual doctor that I have no concept of time literally.. like I do to an extent but my brain makes terrible judgments based on the length of time, so I have to work EXTRA hard to not be late to things I'm talking alarms, clocks everywhere, and having telling myself the real time im supposed to be there is 2: 00 even though i don't need to be there until 230.. because ill end up being there at 230 anyways 😅 I don't have a lot of money for how expensive adhd medications is and this is a symptom, having a difficult grasp of time, of my strong unattended adhd
Yeah as soon as he mentioned being late all the time I immediately thought of ADHD. Our sense of time is messed up. I use my talking clock app a lot to help me keep track of passing time.
Ok ok...now I feel like I understand him more! Thanks

That Nipsey piece by Mr Flawless 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
How to to not be late? Simple answer: Care more. Prepare and go early. Practice.
ecliptic1101 always add 20 minutes to the amount of time you THINk you need and google maps the commute time.
@@applejuicyjuice true depending on the person maybe add more
Or, like me, be raised in Germany and get belly cramps when you're late 🤣
Nope. You don’t understand. Being late is an optimist’s disease. Like Hasan said, we try to get more done than time actually allows, in the event we’re running early. We are trying to cram in too much. We assume we will get to our destination in the best case scenario amount of time. Arriving early is not in the realm of possibility for us.
Nothing personal, but your brain is wired differently! You’re a different kind of human. I care so much, and whenever I’m late I’m super upset about it. It’s not about how much you care. It’s about executive function in the brain being off kilter.
@@The_Green_Queen, cool.
This was refreshing and a great ice breaker on taboo topics (still) in American society. Therapy rules! Emotional and mental health don't get the attention they need, and we have a system that capitalizes on peoples' distress in a predatory manner. Many of us struggle with anxiety, depression, loathing, and anger. Our society seems to want to stoke these flames in a sick way because there are profits to be made from peoples' misery. I am so glad you had Charlamagne on to talk about this in a lighthearted manner. Cheers, Minaj, and to all my fellow friends out there. You are not alone. The cure is honesty and love.
so true .. i have depression from 1 2 yrs but havnt went to therapy once and i always get same response go to sleep and pray
@ServantOfAllah its not about how religion.. i was talking about how asia's family react to depression.. if there slightly burn on ur hand .. they will go to all way to fix it but when we talk about depression and pretend that it doesnt exit
