What is Roblox? Roblox is an online virtual playground and workshop, where kids of all ages can safely interact, create, have fun, and learn. It’s unique in that practically everything on Roblox is designed and constructed by members of the community. Roblox is designed for 8 to 18 year olds, but it is open to people of all ages. Each player starts by choosing an avatar and giving it an identity. They can then explore Roblox - interacting with others by chatting, playing games, or collaborating on creative projects. Each player is also given their own piece of undeveloped real estate along with a virtual toolbox with which to design and build anything - be it a navigable skyscraper, a working helicopter, a giant pinball machine, a multiplayer “Capture the Flag” game or some other, yet-to-be-dreamed-up creation. There is no cost for this first plot of virtual land. By participating and by building cool stuff, Roblox members can earn specialty badges as well as Roblox dollars (“Robux”). Dude thanks! I've been curious about the game(s) my nieces are obsessed with, but Roblox looked too damn uninteresting to me for me to look into. A sign of me getting older is finally referring to CZcams for what the children in my household are tinkering around with.

This should definitely touch on the peer pressure aspect of the monetization model.
These type of games are intentionally designed to make people compete for looks. It's the whole business model and children are especially susceptible.
Cosmetics become status symbols not only in the game but in real life, it does not exist in a vacuum. Children especially want to look the fanciest and brag about it. They don't want to be the person running around in rags. This social pressure is intentionally utilized in order to create incentive to spend money.
The need to purchase a made up in-game currency is meant to alienate. To create distance to the fact that you are spending actual money.
Whenever you talk about monetization in games for children, or ANY games for that matter, it is extremely important to talk about how it aims to psychologically take advantage of you. Because children are the most vulnerable to these tricks. And even if you don't allow them to spend any money, they can still be affected by these manipulative hooks. This psychological warfare is well researched, you can listen to entire lectures how it's meant to get people. And it works, this isn't a multi-billion industry for nothing. Awareness is key.
I think the term "warfare" is a bit extreme in this case. I understand what you're saying about the social pressure to spend money on the platform, but there's also incentive to be creative on the platform. Players/Developers can earn robux by making games that people play, or shirts, or pants, or other items. Also, there are many creators such as MyUsernamesThis who promote the default look, known as bacon hair. A lot of people are embracing the default looks. I have seen players who will comment on the outfits of others, but that's something that people encounter in real life as well. Some people are just insecure and so they try to bully others to feel better. A lot of players learn that in Roblox and gain some resilience. My community is also about promoting kindness to others on the platform and standing up for people getting bullied. There's also free items that come out periodically that people can get to make some really cool avatars. It's an online multiplayer platform, so with that comes many social behaviors that humans engage in. It's very important that parents become tech savvy and learn how to track and limit what their children can do/see, not just on Roblox, but the internet in general.

Roblox is safe only of u turn the under age 13 privacy settings players can still bypass the chat filters with pretty bad stuff roblox needs to work on fixing that.

Guys’ll so RoBlox is safe for kids as there are a lot of settings to add restrictions. Most of the games on the platform are appropriate for most ages, especially the games that are most played. While the systems of the platform are strong, they aren't completely foolproof.
