- We had just arrived in the hustle and bustle of Mumbai and decided that instead of searching online we would hunt for a hotel in the downtown area of the intense city. Join myself and Harald Baldr on there mega hotel hunt through markets and alleyways of the great Indian city...
As an Indian, I had the reverse experience when I came to Canada. I was asking people for a hotel when I wanted a place to eat :)

I like the old school method of just wandering around looking for a hotel. I use the internet now, but I'm old enough to have done it pre-internet booking, too. And like with many things, some of the adventure has been lost along the way. Maybe I'll give it a try on my next trip.
I've never booked in advance. So far so good
I like my travels 10 years ago better for that reason. No phone, no tripadvisor, no google maps, just me my ex and our guidebook. Makes the whole thing more- in lack of better words, magical
Never book hotels and stuff like that in advance. The picture is always different from the real rooms. Also you might get a better deal if you bargain while booking IRL

Just to let you know.. This is a hotel, but people do actually have houses with this same style of washrooms. I have had the luxury of using the same and the Captain Morgan pose is the actual way to go about it. You could also just use the WC to sit and bathe. But, let's face it... Where's the fun in that.
plus you can pour soap in the toilet bowl and slush your foot around to wash. Also, you can poop while showering and then bidet your heiny hole afterwards

Religion does matter sadly and people spend lots of money renovating temples and stuff, its like the hotel restaurant thing, Maharasthra is not a religion, its the name of the state and it consists of christians, muslims, hindus and so on, if she meant to be secular, then she could have said she was Indian, Im partialy atheist, so I would admit it, she could have meant a lot of things, its non of your business too who knows, Im maharashtrian is quite common to certain group of people , very difficult to know what she meant, some countries have their own logic alltogether and before anyone blasts at me for saying this,-- she needs to learn the difference between the two, I live in mumbai and by family, Im born in a christian family and I live in Maharashtra..its pure logic. :) lot of people just say they are maharashtrian, I would like to know, what they really mean by that.

Let me tell you a little story about how my brother wondered around middle of the night going to 4 different “hotels” and none of hem were hotels 😂 they all just served food. So hotel in India in the older days meant a place to sit and eat food is what I heard. One time we where in Bangkok and our train had arrive at 10 pm Christmas Eve and we hadn’t booked a hotel...we wondered around to maybe 4-5 different hotels and hostels only to find them all booked up because of holiday. In the end we found an amazing hotel and got to meet the owner who was having a Christmas Eve party on the rooftop, after conversing for a bit and drinking and eating we got along really well and ended up booking a trip to a very small island somewhere in the middle of nowhere..sometimes things like this can lead to Many great adventures, Cheers Mr Bald (sorry for the long comment)

Ben I had a shower like that in Chungking Mansions on Nathan Road, Hong Kong. I am envious of your ability to learn some basic languages in many countries. It really helps connect with the locals. I have been inspired by your style and decided, as my next overseas trip will be 3 months in Lisbon (visiting Sintra and Porto) that I would do a local walking series of videos around historic Norwich with interesting historical and local facts.
That toilet and shower combination is the state of the shower art. You have a sitting comfort while having shower. Anyone who had to poo while all wet when they just got in the shower understands the luxury there

In 2013 I stayed 2 months in Philippines. In Manila and Ilo Ilo with my mom and my sister to visit our family, It was an amazing trip and eye opener and walking through the markets I had the same experience. As a half filipino and half english man born and raised in Canada standing at 6'1 I was a monster there haha. Love watching your videos Bald! It puts a smile on my face every time I watch!

I am an Idian born in UK and I went there in 2011. There is loads to do if you meet the right people and it is very sociable. People work very hard and play harder and they can exhaust you if you are from the west and used to a slower pace
I always wear flip flops when I shower in a subpar environments like that bathroom/shower. Flip flops pack easy too.
As far as I remember, a hotel is a small cafe, at least they call them like this in South India. I still can't understand why.
Maybe I guess hotels were the only place during the British times where you could sit and dine. That caught on and it has never changed after..
