Can Bogner Ecstasy 3534 do Soldano SLO-30?

  • Matched the two amps to within a tiny margin. They still feel SLIGHTLY different, but for all intents and purposes it's a tie. No extra components/effects required, it's amp vs. amp.
    The most difficult part was that the SLO is quite dry and tight, but has a LOT of midrange harmonic content. So it sounds a lot less compressed than it is, very clear-sounding with just enough grease. Really tough to match. The Bogner wants to be looser, but the Blue channel is quite tight and aggressive.

    To me the Soldano sounds more like a hot rodded Marshall. The Bogner sounds more like a Bogner. Bogner amps have a certain characteristic tone about them. Both sound great, but different.

    Dang, another fantastic demo. Ideal two amps to be comparing. The Soldano sounds incredible, as does the Bogner. I’m the mix the Soldano probably wins for me, but for my style, what I like, and what feels good to me…in hand I might prefer the Bogner.

    Wow, that's incredibly close and thanks for doing this. I was gonna buy the Bogner, and BOY IS IT CLOSE, but yes, the Soldano has a more focused Marshally type sound, and Bogner sounds a bit more like itself. It's more crunchy than the Soldano, but I kind of like the slightly more scooped sound of the Soldano by like half a point.

      Well this demo didn't do anything to cure my GAS for the 3534. I have a Soldano already and a Splawn too. I just want an amp that does the Fendery clean, the Plexi type 70s and 80s and can do the modern High gain midrange grind this seems as close as I can get under 2 grand and while still having a tube amp.

    Nice demo! I got to a/b these two at GC in Nashville. Ran them first through the Bogner 2x12, and then the Soldano vertical 2x12. I ended up taking the SLO 30. It just checked every block and sounded a tad more aggressive and dynamic in the eq response, more metal favored. But I still want the Bogner 3534 bad. Just an awesome sounding amp. I’d take the blue channel by itself and call it a day. Red was also awesome, but that’s where the SLO OD edged it out. The Bogner cab sounded better, although combing both was stupendous. Honestly, the only (non-modded) amp I could put up against these two is a JJ-100 for pure tonal satisfaction.

  • @jublaim
    @jublaim Před 3 lety +1

    Very close! I think what makes the most difference is that the SLO has much higher voltages in the preamp section than the Bogner; seems like Reinhold prefer lower voltages there. That's why you have to crank upper midrange and treble on the Bogner to get close to the SLO sound. On the other hand, it makes the Bogner a bit "mellower" sounding to begin with, and it can make it easier to dial in a broader range of sounds.

    @darwinsaye Před 2 lety +1

    Interesting comparison, but since both amps are similarly expensive, I'm not sure of the point. I mean, if I was after the SLO sound from an amp, I'd just buy the SLO for a couple of hundred bucks more... Honestly though, I found, to my surprise, that I liked the voice of the Bogner quite a bit more, at least at this level of gain.

    • @elvisgeardemos
      @elvisgeardemos  Před 3 lety +1

      Both are great. But with the 3534 you can kick on the red channel, so you can tune it for a lead channel. You can boost either amp up front in any case, so kind of a tie there. Really the best tone for lead is the one you can hear, so the midrange focus of the SLO would be very good.

    • @elvisgeardemos
      @elvisgeardemos  Před 3 lety

      Fair enough. I went to great lengths to get them saturated as similarly as possible. Harmonics, sustain, attack are quite similar. They just saturate a bit differently. The SLO makes harmonics in the upper mid that are very difficult to duplicate.
