If it was carelessly bailed while still wet/damp and not fully dried out it will begin to break down, heat up and start to compost causing it to ignite and smoke. Maybe a blessing if this was meant for feed for animals which could cause harm if not death, it’s spoiled, rotting food, not fit for animals.

You taught me something new today. I wondered why it was bailed and green but flammable.

Another thought, may have been on its way for making composting material and didn’t make it to its destination on time. Which is probably more likely the case sense it was still green.

Sometimes they bale it green and hope to use it fast. I grew up part of my life on a dairy farm. We didn't store green bales. We baled it quickly because of coming rain and we used it ASAP. Dry green bales that get rain on them will ferment and start on fire also. That's why it is best to make sure it's bone dry and covered. I'd have to be there to see it and open an unburned bale to know more facts. It could very well be a cigarette from a passing car with a jackass passenger. ☝🏻🤓

When I was a child, my parents & other parents would take turn "child-sitting" us when we weren't in Kindergarten that day.
We went a full day and then the next day we were given off and another group of 5-6 year olds went to Kindergarten.
One day Russ' mom Ruby Dell was watching us and we got bored playing games inside so we went outside to play.
Outside for fun we climbed tree's and then climbed the huge stack of hay bales - I'm guessing it was over 20 feet tall.
Russ went inside and then came back with a full metal coffee can.
I looked at him & asked what the coffee can was for ? Russ said: "I have left-over Blackcat firecrackers. Let's shoot them off !"
It became boring lighting them on the ground & throwing them so we climbed back up on top of the hay bales.
So we took turns: I would light the match and the fire-cracker & Russ would throw it off and then it was my turn. It was fun until . . .
one of the matches didn't get put out all the way OR a fire-cracker didn't completely burn itself out all the way.
Once we saw the smoke, we both ran in his house and crawled under Russ' bed. Isn't that WHERE some men still hide today ? lol
Ruby Dell called out to us and so we crawled out from under his bed and turned their old Black & White TV on. . . . it took forever to come on.
    Anyone from the Denver area remember channels 2, 4, 6, 7 & 9 ? Who remembers "Blinky's Fun Club" on channel 2 as a child ??
    czcams.com/video/b_pdLGw7YFc/video.html
We shouted back that we were both in the basement watching TV. Ruby Dell went outside and quickly saw that the hay bale stack was on fire.
Harold and Ruby Dell had a pay phone in their garage and she called the Prospect fire department, and then Keenesburg, and then Roggen !
It was the BIGGEST fire there in Prospect as it took three volunteer fire departments from Prospect, Keenesburg & Roggen to put it out.
Both Russ and I got spanked for the fire by his mom Ruby. lol
When Russ' dad Harold got home later that day, after mom had picked me up, he got spanked again. lol
When mom picked me up that afternoon after leaving work, when we got home, mom spanked me again. lol
When dad got home that night after working the fields - guess who got spanked again ? lol
Many, many years later, my dad's father's brother passed away around 103 years old.
Some of us went to his funeral from out of town and then the Roggen Volunteer Fire Dept. had a "Potluck Lunch" for everyone at the fire station.
I struck up a conversation with two of the oldest men there who were retired Roggen volunteer firemen.
I asked the men if they remember the BIG hay bale fire in 1969 or 1970. They remembered the "BIG FIRE" all right.
And, they even remembered the two boys who were "playing with matches & firecrackers" who started the fire. We ALL laughed !
And yes Emily, Russ is still alive today and uses this story as an illustration when he preaches. Russ & his wife Londa pastor a church and live in AZ.

This is the most incredible story! No wonder it stays with you your whole life and everybody else who was involved in it. It’s just amazing that no one was killed

@@Emily.Miller Indeed you are 100% CORRECT on everything you said !
I look forward going to heaven one day and asking the ABBA FATHER and HIS angels to show me the video
      - how many different times they protected me from facing an early death AND
      - what they did to PROTECT me when I should have been killed !
For He (YHWH) will give His angels
      [especial] charge
      over you
to accompany and defend and preserve you
      in all your ways
      [of obedience and service].
      Psalms 91:11 Amplified Bible
I have a question for you Emily: Why when I try to take a picture or do a video thru my windshield, I get a "glare" or "strange reflection."
You have no glare whatsoever in your on-the-scene video. How did you avoid the "glare" and/or "strange reflection ?" That is amazing !
