    This is so interesting and just proves that beauty is in the eye of the beholder cause I've genuinely prefered her with less/ultra natural makeup! I've always felt that the heavier makeup looks take away from her beauty a bit.

      I agree. She is so much more innocent and ethereal looking with less makeup. I’m not usually one who makes ‘the before looked better than the after’ comments, but I’m making it now!

      I prefer the less made up look as well. She’s naturally stunning. I feel like putting more makeup on her makes her look more conventional aka: boring.

      @h0rriphic yes thank you! I couldn't think of the proper word. She's beautiful either way, there's no denying that, but the heavy makeup makes her look so conventionally pretty and like everybody else. Her features are so stunning and unique that I hate when she covers it all up.

    This makes so much sense now!! I have wider set eyes and wide eyebrows, which makes them look even wider. I also have a very youthful face. 31 years old and everyone thinks I’m maybe 19. When I do the no make up make up look, I still feel very blank and could never figure out why! Now I know.

    I don't agree at all. She looks great without makeup, she just has some features that fall outside what we perceive as conventional beauty, and she can make those features look more conventional with makeup. The way makeup always works...

      What is with the seemingly endless amount of beautiful actresses having their face fat sucked out? It’s sad. Prematurely ages them. No doubt, when they are older they’ll be running to their doctors office to get filler pumped back in.

    People cannot be following other peoples makeup routines, they need to do it accordingly to their face shape, color skin, undertones, complimentary colors, complexion, facial features, etc. Once you can identify them, it makes a HUGE difference. I have deep set prominent round eyes, a doe eyelook is better for me, than the siren eye… it looks like im trying to re shape my eye and looks off
    I am olive skin, orange wouldn’t look great on me like it would on a female with a darker complexion. (Very jelly 😩)

    I’m 63 years young and I’ve noticed I look washed out with natural makeup, or that “kardashian” lip look. I wear pretty bold makeup, meaning blush, bronzer, and lip, no eyes due to allergies. I get many compliments on the bold look and only comments of “are you sick?” when wearing natural. For reference I have medium olive skin, dark brown eyes and hair, so low contrast.

    • @barbthegreat586

      So do I because of age related discoloration of the skin, disappearing eyebrows etc. I do use bold colours as well but I need less saturated colours.

  • @Cry4theSun
    @Cry4theSun Před 9 měsíci +9

    Wow, this explains what I’ve felt for so long!!! I’ve often felt like my face looks “blah”. I have a round face with wide-set, small hooded eyes. You pointing out how having wide set eyes draws attention to the blank spaces of the face I feel like rings true for me. And with a rounder face, I have a lot of this “blank” space.
    I’m just getting into learning to wear makeup. It’s a steep learning curve lol. But now I’m seeing how learning to define areas of my face with makeup can benefit me. I feel like even just coloring in my eyebrows, adding some lip color (I don’t do anything super bold because I have big lips so too much will draw attention away from the eyes), and doing simple eye makeup can help my face feel a bit more defined and less “blah”.

  • @BonnieLeeBee
    @BonnieLeeBee Před 10 měsíci +87

    I would argue that Anya is very conventionally attractive. She has an ethereal and unique quality, but if you define her face in features, then she absolutely is the definition of conventional beauty. Big ways, nice eye brows, decent lid space, perfect sized nose with not too much upward or downward projection (perfect?) Shapely lips with perfect ratio 1/3 to 2/3. Good forward grown which means her forehead is nice and chin. Great jawline and check bones. Wide set eyes can look unhealthy and uncanny on some people, but when you are pretty, it just adds to features. That's why Gemma Ward was one of the forerunners for models a decade or so ago. It was a desired feature. Also, let's not even begin on her body. Of course, beauty is in they eye of the beholder. I know you never claimed she wasn't pretty, but standing out of the crowd doesn't mean you aren't conventionally attractive based on what is considered "conventionally attractive".

    I absolutely love this video and your content! One thing I think is important with Anya to acknowledge is how cosmetic procedures/plastic surgery have creatively enhanced her distinctive features, especially when you compare how dramatic a transformation there is between Thoroughbreds (shot in 2016) and each year since then. I have very similar eyes to Anya's and when I was a kid I was called names like owl which made me hate them. Anya said she was teased for her eyes too 🥲 I feel uncomfortable with emphasizing them even as an adult because I still don't like them but I'm going to try to at least apply a bit more mascara at the bottom lashes! Seeing my eyes on pretty celebrities does help a bit and I can also use them as inspiration for makeup looks too.

    Ok, so I have slightly close set eyes but with higher set pupils I think? And I have a slightly full face due to extra weight, though my face doesn’t naturally have a ton of blank space (diamond shaped with high cheekbones that show even with fat). I generally look similar with and without makeup, and I don’t look great in heavy emphasis anywhere-better if eyes but still not good because my eyes are hooded. So I don’t want to go overboard but I think I should at least define the bottom lash line to take away some of that blank space. But I have…eye bags/fat/not quite sure what under my eyes that are a bit darker. So would it look a bit stupid to define the bottom lash line considering the darkness under my eyes already kind of “defines” my eyes?

    • @stylemejenn
      @stylemejenn  Před 11 měsíci

      I think using adequate coverage in the under-eye area then using soft eyeshadow colors to define the size of your eyes would work! Sometimes if the dark circles are really prominent even though they do define the size of your eyes, the darkness can give you a tired look.

    I think the dark eye make-up ages her. She looks younger and more youthful without heavy eye make-up. Yes, she can get away with bold make-up, but it drastically alters her appearance and she looks older. I have light blond hair and fair skin and my lashes and eyebrows are also very light. I also look very different with darker eye-make up, the contrast to the light features is very harsh and I have to go all in with make-up for the rest of the face as well to lessen this contrast and end up looking vastly different from my natural look, and also looking older somehow. This is fine for a night out or special occasions, but I personally want to look more natural and not fully dolled-up on a daily basis. But then again, my eyes are light blue and Anya's are brown, so maybe that's why dark eye make-up looks even more weird on me.
    Imo you have to be careful when you're (very) low contrast with blond hair and light features, dark eyes can overwhelm your face and alter your features more than a person with normal/higher contrast. A bit of mascara is fine and some lipstick, but heavy eye make-up is something else.

      Fair point and it also does come down to personal preference! I personally think that since Anya already looks so young, adding a bit of age with makeup is not a bad choice but as you said it also depends on the occasion :)

    I think it’s personal preference. I by the way don’t do a full glam makeup look. I just do basic makeup. Not too much especially for the summer months. Plus too much make up makes you look older plus clogs your pores on your face with tons of foundation and powder.

    I love how you said that the standards of beauty being the youthful look shouldn't be generalised, as beauty is in the eye of beholder, and if someone wants to look more mature they should have a right to that.
    Many people would disparage tye new trend of BFR, but would have no objection to excessive surgical uses to get to look opposite, even though at the end of the day, they are both cosmetic procedures, that their recipients thinks they need. People should be more accepting if things outside of their norm, but it isn't sadly the reality. So this was refreshing to hear

    Hmm I tend to think that women with big eyes, like Anya or Emma Stone, need less makeup. A lot of makeup (especially eye makeup) make them look a bit "too much". Meanwhile women with smaller eyes, like Mariah Carey or Catherine Zeta Jones, I think can pull of a lot of eye makeup before it starts to look too heavy on them.

    • @stylemejenn
      @stylemejenn  Před 9 měsíci +1

      I think it depends on the preference as well, but more so with Anya it's not just the big eyes, but her proportions that make her suitable for a bolder style of eye makeup as well imo :) Thanks for the input!

    I find that after her buccal fat removal and nose job, there is too much emphasis on her eyes. Before, her eyes were already prominent and stunning, but she also had a cute wider nose and lower face with cute fleshy cheeks to balance it out. Now, her lower face is gaunt, her nose is narrow and her eyes can be overpowering and intimidating. I believe she deliberately wanted to look more mature and intimidating to get cast in those type of roles. Yet from a mere aesthetic angle, her original face was more proportionate.

  • @ConnieWobbles
    @ConnieWobbles Před 8 měsíci

    Ok so hear me out on this because its not meant to disbarage, I'm just seeing something off and want to know the cause from a technical perspective. It's odd that she has large eyes because my first impression of her face, after the wide gap between her eyes, is actually something really masculine around her eyes and brows. All I see when I look at her is an absence of eyelid and sort of heavy manly brows. You'd think she'd have a prettier more doll like look with such big eyes but in my view she doesn't. When I look at her I get the urge to wipe off her eyeliner to reveal more space on her eyelid and add definition around her orbital bone/eye crease, some light reflecting light shadow to her eyelids, some lashes and some makeup in the middle to bring her eyes in. I've seen many asian faces that have prettier eyes with technically less visible eye lid to work with and yet this woman has large eyes. What's creating that masculine no eyelid, heavy brow look on her? There's a feeling her brows are too low or something, I cant place it. Is it the bone structure maybe or the fact that her eyelid isnt visible front on, compared to someone with larger eyelids like madonna for example? And yes I know I'm being critical but I'm trying to understand why someone like Dua Lipa with strong brows looks pretty despite her masculine bone structure but this model looks less feminine, in my view, despite having some feminine features. I also dont think lighter brows would help because her bone structure doesnt seem to have enough softness for that. Could it be the hair colour thats also causing an imbalance? I feel like she's styled like an ingenue but she could be a dramatic based on her face. Ive no clue on her height/vertical line. As someone else mentioned, I think she could look more harmonious with dark hair, but I still feel I'd want to create more visible eyelid for her because all I'm seeing is wide set maltesers under a manly brow. Am I alone in this or does anyone else see it?

    • @stylemejenn
      @stylemejenn  Před 8 měsíci

      Interesting! I've never thought of ATJ's face as masculine in any way but I can see how the brows might appear strong on her because her overall coloring is so light?

    • @ConnieWobbles
      @ConnieWobbles Před 8 měsíci

      @@stylemejenn just to be clear because I realise I was a bit harsh in my assessment, I don't think she looks masculine, I think her eye area is masculine at a glance. I did a quick search on her after your video and searched her Kibbe type and most are guessing at Soft Dramatic. Either way, she's too sculpted to be a blonde, unless that was for a part. Dark and moody suits her better. I think it's the strong brow, dark eye colour without much visible eyelid space front on. When you see illustrations of male fashion models they often draw a straight line for the brow with a line for the upper eyelid and a dot underneath. That's what I'm seeing. But she's also a brunette with lots of Kibbe type yang, I think the blonde hair threw me. She looks much more harmonious as a brunette.

    I think Anya's cheeks are thinner due to growing up and maturing and not surgery. We lose what I call the "baby fat" at different ages. My twenty year old face was so chubby compared to my thirty year old face and so on until now in my 50's, less fat every year in my face.
