    As a Komodo owner myself, I still find myself preferring to use my 6K G1's. For me, it's most definitely BRAW and the fact that I can get very very near to the quality of my Komodo. All filmmakers and video shooters should be worshipping Blackmagic for what they've done for the industry. As Brandon mentioned, BM truly showed the other manufacturers that there is a market for "low end" cinema.
    In terms of the inevitable "box" design that I think we all want and will eventually get from BM. I personally think the Pocket line will stick to this form factor, but an entirely new line will sit in between Pocket and Ursa. The box design will be for their cinema while I think the Ursa will continue to exist for their more broadcast oriented form factors.
    Save your money y'all, it's coming.

      Agree Randall. Drone cinema is growing fast right now.. tons of cine lifter drones coming out now to lift the likes of BMPCC, canon, DSLR, etc.. a box design would be a win for drone cine. I feel at this point, they got the 4.6 and 12K Ursa line like you said, and the 4/6K pocket line. They should put in an 8K box line similar to RED and frankly ZCAM. If ZCAM had BRAW in it.. I'd really consider it. That ZCAM E2 F8 is a great format in my opinion. Just not sure how good their ProRes RAW support is and if/when Resolve will support it.

      I own a 5d4 for now and I wanted a Komodo next and then cine lenses and more lights. Do you think I should invest first in a 6k pro over komodo? For now I am doing commercial work (for companies or commercials) but I have short films lined up in a few months, say a year max, and I thought komodo was an amazing choice.
      Is working with komodo so cumbersome vs 6k pro?

    It's a good camera for people looking to get into the BM ecosystem, but for people already there... it's a parallel move, versus a real upgrade. I think the REAL big news was BM Camera update 7.9 that rolled out. That update made an already well-thought-out interface even better with more features, enriching and enhancing the existing features, and made two, 4 and 3 year old cameras current.

    What BM needs is an 8+ K box camera that can be flown on cine lifter drones, hand held gimbals, etc. If the 12K Ursa is 6K in price.. make an 8K box camera with ND filters, S35 sensor, interchangeable mount, for about 3500.. that thing will sell like crazy!

    • @lewisrazo8551

      8k is unnecessary

    • @kieranarmstrongproductions4743
      @kieranarmstrongproductions4743 Před 2 lety

      why on earth would they ever waste money creating an 8k box camera in this line? They have a cinema-style 12k URSA mini pro that's very popular. A good 6k cube form factor with anamorphic and a PL mount option would be golden.

    • @b3owu1f
      @b3owu1f Před 2 lety

      @@lewisrazo8551 Dont agree. 8K is already growing in home TVs.. slowly sure.. but same thing happened when 4K came out. In a few years most TVs will be 8K. More and more movies are shot on 8K cameras now. It's without a doubt the right direction to head. We've had 4K for years now. We've had 5.7K and 6K cameras for some time now. We have a lot of big expensive 8K cameras, and though BM has the 12K.. its a large camera. Making 8K with BRAW and v5 color.. would be the next step up. Why would we build a 4th 6K camera? We only had 1 4K camera and then the Ursa 4.6K big boy. Drone/cinema is huge now.. and a lot of people are flying BMPCC4K/6K on drones but it's an awkward setup. 8K is the next step.. you may think it is unnecessary.. but 8K gives a lot of editing wiggle room for 4K output, and can keep the "future" in mind too with more and more 8K coming out.

    • @b3owu1f
      @b3owu1f Před 2 lety

      @@kieranarmstrongproductions4743 Why on earth would they make ANOTHER 6K camera? They have 3 now.. 1 4K, and the big heavy 4.6K and 12K. With technology advancing, the growing (but slow right now) movement of 8K TVs and 8K projectors on the horizon (some already out but stupid expensive), and 8K the next evolution in TV/displays.. why make yet another 6K for those that think 4K is all we need, when 8K is right around the corner in mass.. and already here. Movies are being shot in 8K.. so why would we want another camera that is present day and see it obsolete in a couple years IF they could build an 8K now? They absolutely can since they have the 12K. 8K makes more sense than 6K by far given what they just released. 8K gives a ton of editing wiggle room for current 4K projects.. while allowing you to do some 8K stuff too if need be. It's like asking why we need ATMOS.. 16 channel audio? We don't. 5.1 works just fine. But 7.1 came along. 9.1 and 11.1 are here now but not used much.. so should we just ignore those.. or should we strive to offer even more capable tech that makes audio sound even better.. and thus same with video. Now.. don't get me wrong.. 4K is amazing and its still relatively new. But 8K is already here too, so why would we not want a new camera (in a year or so) to support the up and coming format? 4K or 6K again.. makes no sense to me.

    Its a nice update but I think they missed the opportunity to integrate an rf mount that would have ideally been a great step towards adapting more lens options and possibly shrinking the growing footprint of the blackmagic cameras. The gyro data I think is the biggest announcement- if its as easily integrated into the available stabilization options then all blackmagic cameras have a huge boost in value and usability.

    I appreciate the thought here but I think it’s all wishful thinking. It seems clear that bm are simply trying to streamline their production process and save money on parts. This is what they do. Remember they actually manufacture all their cameras. Ursa 12k and g2 pro!! It may also be an admittance that most users didn’t rate the iR cut in the internal nds and most have an nd solution for the 6k before the pro came out either via polar pro matte box or screw in. Bm biggest problem may be that they actually like the design of their existing cameras but more likely they have made a strategic decision to give hi specs in the same box to keep manufacturing costs at an absolute minimum. Their other problems probably centre around ip and integration with other NLEs.

    If anything I would think they don’t want to keep the production line of the 4K/6K body style because those two share the same exterior dimensions…
    And I’m sure they needed to revamp slumped 6K sales because comparing price point.
    Original 6K + GOOD ND filters + external monitor = 6K Pro…(with ND and tilting monitor)
    6K Pro was the better deal…

The integrated NDs were a logical step towards making it more portible and "self sufficient".

    This body design is really not appealing to me. A full frame cube style BM camera would be a revolution.

    So nothing of note. Still a black magic.

    Are you for real dude? Can you pause for one second and listen to the total BS you are filling my ears with? What the fuck are you saying? That the G2 basically is useful to the sale of accessories pertaining to the Pro ???
    So it's just a step to an eco system. Good for you.
    I'll keep my 6k. I get to choose my nd filters. I have all the bells and whistles the pro or g2 have.
    OK, no tilt screen... but as a matter of fact i use an external fully pivoting monitor of 2700 nits. So no big deal.
    What else? nothing. This G2 is just a marketing BS. Period. Next !

    The body looks plastic build.
