Same...I need 2 more pieces and I'll do pinnacle activities, mostly for good stat rolls, but after I get this chest and cloak, it's all min max builds from there.
I was 950 halfway into the second week, then did all three raids and 100k nightfalls since. Haven't gotten a single character to 951, gotten about 10 951 energy weapons I want death
Pinnacle levelling is a carrot on a stick to try and compel high level players to stay engaged. Like the carrot on the stick though, once you realise obtaining it is effectively impossible, the urge to chase very quickly gives way [to minor resentment at being treated like a farm animal]. Not sure if it'll affect the "completion" sense of 950 too much, given that another season and cap raise seem inevitable anyway, but if anything, my guess would be a greater sense of burnout as there will no longer be any breaks in "progression" between seasons.
Impossible?!?!? I'm 951 (base) and I work a 40 hour a week job, take care of a wife and three children. These content creators and other "no-lifers" will hit 960 before the month is out.

@@DiscoDevil197 915 wow you can hit that in like 2-3 days lol. I guess if you don't have that much time but with the game being as generous as it is now with loot it's hard to imagine ppl not nearing the 950 cap as I've had all 3 chars there for over a week now.

Not pointless, just not a grind you should worry about much, just do stuff that overlaps with the pinnacle challenges like grinding the 950 nightfall for upgrade materials or doing the raid for the armor or weapons. Pinnacles are just the last thing you should worry about, is all.
Your Artifact resets every season, plus it takes more XP to get to Master LL than if you raise your actual LL. It's not pointless, just not a grind you should focus on unless you want the clout.
@@zeph6182 No, it's pretty pointless. With how slow the progress is and how now we know it's basically impossible to reach 960, and with that knowledge knowing that even the hardcore players will probably not even break 955 base power, that
I'm really hoping they are not going to do anymore base level increases and just leave it like this have people slowly keep leveling with no cap that would make the slow pinnacle grind make sense.
ItzTheDub maybe they might try to shift power increases more towards the low side for seasons with a bigger boost for each dlc, possibly having this season and the next have the same 960 cap with no increase in power next season, then increasing it by like 30 to 990 with a pinnacle cap of 1000 for the next 2 seasons. Makes getting to the pinnacle cap a lot more reasonable if you give it 2 seasons not 1
Datto finally reached 1 mill! I’m sure myself and plenty others are so happy for you right now, you’ve been a unique source of entertainment for myself for a game that I don’t play anymore. I’ve always found myself attracted to your style of video making, the mix between informational and goofy videos has always kept me entertained since D1. What I’m trying to say is this; congratulations man, you’ve earned it, and myself and many others have been waiting for you to get here and are excited to see what the future still holds for you. We all appreciate the effort that goes into making a video, continue doing what you’re doing - or don’t, I’ll watch it anyway.
This is how I felt when I got to 950 the other day. I knew I was done, and pinnacle leveling was more for "show" for players like me who like to keep playing, not as much, till the next DLC drop. Not being able to hit 960 is a head scratcher, but it shouldn't be too quick if that was intended. 950 should be the universal hard cap that everyone should hit, while the grind to 960 should be something for the more the enthusiast. But we should get more sources for the 960 grind.
"I have my own thoughts, which I will now say with mouth noises." I don't play Destiny anymore, but I still watch Dattos videos. Turns of phrase like these are one of the reasons why 😊
You know, it is a lot more liberating and fun to play this game when you stop caring about trying to hit max power as fast as possible for every DLC drop. Not knocking this video; it is great per usual. Just saying the game is a lot more fun when you enjoy it at your own pace and play what you want rather than what you "have to" because it is the most efficient. You absolutely do not need to be max power to chase rewards in every activity either. Sure you won't be doing optimal DPS but honestly hitting max power in Destiny is way too much effort for way too little reward and it only gets more ridiculous with time. The power grind is so stale that it's just hard to care anymore at this point.
I’m feeling the same. I’m a day 2 Destiny 1 vet, and I used to be max LL by week 2 or 3. RoI burnt me out, and I wasn’t max level until a month and a half later. I’ve only made it to max light once in Destiny 2. I made it to 750 during the season of opulence. The grind to max light is just getting worse and worse.
@@luisarmada9926 And they said they aren't focusing on vendor refreshes. It's hard to play the game when there isn't anything you really want to chase.
It would be good if every raid would give pinnacle rewards, that would give a reason to play the old ones even when you already have the weapons you want from it
I don’t think Bungie’s intent was to have a “I completed this expansion.” It’s supposed to be endless. I enjoy having a hard grind to 960. But I do think it should be obtainable. Maybe just add a few more sources and have a protection from bad rng
I think most hardcore players are ready for the next dungeon. I'm gonna speculate that the new dungeon is gonna be a pinnacle activity. So get excited. If it were too easy, we wouldnt feel rewarded overcoming such a challenge.
As far as I care, my big completion is finishing the season pass, and I've been making careful advancement towards that because, as a solo player, I aint got a lot else to look forward to. I'm at 80 already just doing what I usually do, and will likely be done by next week. The only slot I have left to hit 950 on my main is the helmet, which will likely also be done then. Hopwfully next weeks content will be worth grinding for something else.
CodyCoCo are you doing all powerfuls on all three characters while bringing weapons to each character? If yes, are you also using tokens to balance gear out?
CodyCoCo if you can do the raid. I was 931 and when I completed it I got to 934. (Divinity quest included). But if I didn’t get divinity I would probably be 933.
I think the Pinnacle stuff is kind of a neat little grind for that piece near the middle of the season when content has been mostly exhausted, but it's not close enough to the new season to get hyped and prepare for the new stuff. It's mostly inconsequential for anything but bragging rights, but for folks that want to constantly have something to chase it's a nice reward.
I hit 960 pretty easily then I realized he was talking without artifact It's gonna be hard to upgrade each slot one by one. Ive seen someone 968 with artifact already tho
artifact can be leveled up infinitely, each level adds +100k more xp as requirement I believe. For example, if level 9 to 10 requirement was 1mil xp, level 10 to 11 would be 1.1mil xp and so on. There is a seasonal triumph for reaching 20 levels on artifact as well.
I’m not sure he’s correct because I’ve received a 951 helmet and my highest base power (without artifact) is 948. I don’t have 950 items in my energy slot or chest, boots, or class item on the character in question.
I think one or two of the 6 previous raids each week should drop pinnacle gear but that’s just a fairly bad idea although it would insensitive playing the older raids
@@kuzz1191 you mentioning "rotation" made me wonder if they could do matchmaking for older raids. It would still be more difficult than LFG or playing with your clan obviously but it would help solo players who have been hesitant reaching out to experience older content, and they could do a "prestige" difficulty without matchmaking that had pinnacle rewards. So it would incentivise playing the older raids in addition to the newest one for both hardcore and more casual players alike.
Great perspective, as always, Datto. As for me, when I hit 950 (currently 943) I'm done. I'm going to start building my armor sets and leveling up my favorite guns. If I get any further, great. If not, no big deal.
same for me but only kinetics. i think they really need to do a new system where what ever drops for you as a powerful is guaranteed to be a +1 at the least in that slot until its maxed then it wont drop that slot anymore. for people who are worried about getting duplicates at the cap to infuse other gear thats what the new "drop at power" would help with.
I feel like no one will do the "non-pinnacle" gear activities after reaching 950(at least I am not doing anything that wont help me). I m probably gonna be stopping at 950 anyways, but if I do continue the grind, I m def not doing any activities that wont help me. I feel like Bungie kinda messed up here, it just gives no incentive to play those activities.
There's no real incentive to do any activities after you've done them once cause 1. Recluse exists and 2. The chances that the gear you can get will be better than what you already have is so low a double amputee could count it on there fingers
This is exactly where I'm at. Looking at this non-pinnacle nightfall like meh. No point with powerful gear other than to hope it has good stats and infuse the raid gear.
Pointless to be doing challenges that rewards you pinnacle if your 950, point of it was to help you reach 950 cause pinnacle gear are +15 and higher. So your main achievement is the season pass reward and lucky for you eris is prepared for that
I've been having a hard time trying to get into the game lately, I'll load up the game but not really feel like doing anything, maybe I'll run around the moon, do a strike here and there, maybe a PvP match but afterwards I just lose interest and sit in orbit twiddling my thumbs and watching CZcams videos of Destiny or whatever happens to take my interest at the time
Red_Ace sometimes taking a break from destiny is the best thing you can do, I’ve taken multiple breaks and I’ve really been enjoying destiny again, I took a very long break during forsaken, and haven’t started playing until shadowkeep. That’s just my advice to give 👍🏼
It’s because the grind is extremely demotivating. Destiny 1 had a manageable, and if you plowed throughly it fast enough, you could be max LL in 2-3 weeks without even feeling like you tried too hard. With the way the game is now, grinding is 10x more taxing than it has ever been before. I’m not a fan of the grind, and it really throttles my enjoyment
@@VexJinks What? Destiny 1 was not more manageable lol. D2 has way more clear paths to power. I'm at 950 and I definitely didn't try nearly as hard as a lot of the really hardcore players. I only just did my first GoS this week, too. If it feels more taxing to you, it's probably just you being burnt out. The power grind is not really any more or less taxing than it was before.
Omega8Trigun Yes, it was. Destiny 1 was super simple with how you levelled up. All normal engrams gave you around 3-5 extra LL’s until you hit the soft cap. Even then, you could still level up real simple by just playing Crucible, Strikes, and pretty much everything else. They still have you 3-5 extra LL. Hell, even when you hit the hard cap, you could still receive 3-5 LL from Crucible, Strikes, and so on. Stuff from Nightfalls and Raids would give you 5-7 extra LL. There wasn’t any of this tier shit, or the retarded stuff where strikes, crucible, and the like don’t give you any decent LL increase. Instead, you gotta do all these retarded bounties just to get one shitty piece of gear. Not only that, but Bungie expects you to plow through 200 LL to reach max. Back then, we’d only need to move maybe 50 or so LL to reach max. That was still a chore, but no where near as ass as Destiny 2’s grind.
I had 4 heavy in a row, then loads of primary and energy. Not one single armor, but I did do the raid which gave some armor. I still need 3 more pieces to get 951
I agree, the grind to 960 is meant for long term, probably the entire next year. While each new season will provide the artifact reset for new light grinding. I think 950/960 is here to stay for the full year
I just don’t understand the point in having a power cap that you don’t intend people to hit why even bother making that the power cap instead of just calling the actual power cap the power cap and not lie to everyone and tell them it’s some other number
Me, and many other ppl, are starting to believe there isn't going to be a power increase with each season and the grind to 960 is supposed to last throughout Y3. In this regard it IS possible, just not in the way we're used to but if this is the case Bungie needs to be more transparent about it and temper ppls expectations. Bungie may be hesitant to announce this though as a lot of ppl enjoy and look foward to the seasonal power bump and many may not feel that a 10 power increase over a whole year to be very enjoyable. Either way Bungie needs to clarify this, and soon. I actually don't mind it myself since theres actually other things to chase beside power in the endgame. Now maybe in a few months when I have optimized high stat builds on all chars with plenty of material and every godroll I want I may feel differently. But as long as Bungie keeps us engaged with the endgame in other ways seasonal ritual power grind won't be missed that much. In Y2 starting around Drifter seasonal power grinds doing menial increasingly older activities got REALLY boring.
The protection for bad RNG is the artifact. I wouldn't rule it out in the progression, because it allows you to: 1. Always feel like you're progressing your light level despite bad drops during pinnacle leveling 2. Allows you to experiment with different loadouts instead of having to go with your highest light level gear in endgame activities
All the people down here really thinking they're special because their artifact gets them above 960 when Datto literally said at the beginning of the video that he isn't talking about artifact level.
I think and hope that was the idea of the design. I quite like that hitting 950 is the cap. Then anything else is just a bonus and gives a sense of progression as you continue to grind for perfect roles, then upgrade when you get a piece.
For me 950 is just the beginning of the game. that's when you should start the most difficult activities,(pinnacle) for the chase, LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I don't remember where specifically it was stated but Bungie did say that the goal for LL this season is that they want your LL to be a source of prestige again. The artifact is the premier example of showing that prestige. I think the pinnacle drops weren't exactly intended to behave like this sense of prestige and I think their exact function of distributing pinnacle LL will be retuned in the future.
@@abudgie6909 every season you grind your artifact until it resets During the whole time you can grind your overall base power to get to 960 They always said: If you see people with 960 power you know they did A LOT of pinnacle activities Also: Even New Light players are able to reach 960 power Both statements would be wrong if the power increases each season
I think the core issue is that people kind of think that the 960 cap now is the same as all caps in previous years meaning that only when you reach 960, you actually completed the power grind and can now worry about details like stats and mods, which is wrong. The cap is 950, everything beyond that is just bonus
Anything over 950 will potentially be huge for future world's firsts. Starting a new power-climb with upto 10 points ahead of the effective cap could be crucial.
I like the new setup. You get stronger by constantly doing what you like. I’m 964 with no raid attempts. Just found my favorite activity and kept banging out bounties for it. This new way of leveling is truly for those who actually love the game. Not for those who are looking for a done feeling.
Don’t tell us we have a 960 cap and have no actual way to do that “THIS” season. We need more pinnacle drops. Gambit/Crucible resets? NF other than 100k? Random bounties like the Forge ones? Etc. Make the current pinnacles worth more. Your math was for one set of armour and weapons. What about alts? Exotics? Either they’re waiting to roll out something like tier 2 pinnacle drops or this was a huge oversight on their part. If they want a happy community don’t do stupid shit like this. Or give us a realistic way and timeline to do so.
Below are my Pinnacle drops from IB and are my only 951 items. 3 Primary 6 Energy 5 Power Warlock 2 Chest Hunter 1 Gauntlet Titan 1 boots This was doing the 4 bounties per character and a few extras that have popped up. As you can see RnG is still a big factor. So when you need 80 unique drops the current activities won’t allow us to get there. That’s not counting on not being able to do the raid on every character each week or at all. Same for the 100k NF. Don’t get me started on LFG. We need more activities and or higher light pinnacle items. Period.
I think the system is fair, you can either go after those materials with high level activities or purchase them at the gunsmith if you are not able to, as far as leveling, it keeps some incentive to replay end game content while providing a challenge but with the artifact boost doesn't make it impossible to all and do some degree is still rewarding
This comment is gonna be off topic. Has anyone else just randomly been unsubbed from people? I clicked on this vid and I was unsubbed, I refreshed the page and I was unsubbed again wtf is going on with youtube.
I remember them doing this before. Someone told me it was to make sure people are still watching subs or aren't bots subbing to a bunch of channels and not watching any. Don't know if that was true or not though.
I like the new system. I like that you can continue to grow in power while there are activities that will always out level you. It adds room for actual thinking when putting together a build. Instead of putting on recluse and mowing through low level adds.
Even though recluse is still the best weapon in the game and at the current rate of pinnacle gear drops and potential rng you might never get a higher gear score than 950
The issue here is with people thinking of 960 as the cap. For all intents and purposes, 950 is the cap, and to grow beyond that you play the game and level up your artifact. Pinnacle rewards and 960 are there to give you a small chance to get an upgrade once in a while. Those 10 power levels don't really matter, and are not at all necessary. It's just a carrot for the horse to chase.
It's feeling like the pinnacle grind is something that's designed to last the whole year, not just one season. They have the opportunity to refresh pinnacle sources to season-specific activities throughout the year, like potentially with the Undying Mind this season (probably more raids in future seasons?). That will keep the grind from being completely stale and repetitive, and unlike the year 2 season power increases, you're not likely to be 'done' with it until quite a long way down the road. With Bungie's intention of having the single story arc be told over multiple seasons, it wouldn't surprise me if they want the pinnacle grind to last in a similar way.
I imagine it's a thing where if you're dedicated and keep grinding pinnacle rewards, that's a few light levels less for you to grind the next season. If you're trying to raid race, that's a decent leg up.
I feel like the best solution is to allow powerful drops to drop up to, but not over the highest level item you have if you are over 950 gear power. So you would basically get a pinnacle drop at 951 then farm all 9 other slots up to 951 and then do another pinnacle drop to obtain a 952. This would not only make 960 reasonably, but not overly obtainable, but keep powerful rewards relevant in the grind loop. If this were to be done, I could see bungie not having things like Iron banner have multiple pinnacle drops, but rather 1 for the quest and a few powerful drops.
One bonus is that you can get your second and third character to 950 in seconds as long as you max out your first character. Transfer all your highest weapons and then simply redeem all your season pass armour one by one as it resets all the drops.
I had no idea that the 950-960 grind wasnt currrently possible... I assumed after I hit 950, pinnacle drops would work like additive powerful drops, but now I feel like I'm gonna wear myself out in that grind.
I think the best way around it is to give 5 light Levels above the hard cap. So for example you get to 950 and then everything drops at 955 then when you get all 955 gear you then can get 960 gear. This would be good for those of us that are Hardcore Destiny players but would like to play other games at the same time but the artifact is a good start.
Either make it achievable by augmenting some weeklys once you reach 950 to also grant pinnacle gear like: - Complete Master rank NFs - Win X crucible survival game Or don´t cap it at all (open end and you could theoreticaly surpas 960) but keep the drop rate as is to signal that it´s not a "goal you need to achieve in a season"
I really have to agree on your thoughts, Datto. Though, I'm 50/50 on the whole Pinnacle level if anything. I've already made the hard cap of 960+ on all 3 of my Guardians. And, it almost feels like there's not much to do now. But maybe, use whatever 950 drops you get to infuse into armor you want at that base. Unless, you just happen to get Godlike or near God tier loot. Great insightful video Datto. Keep up the great work. God bless.
I think this system is here to try and give the super hardcore players a reason to keep playing since as you said players think of 950 as the done point for the expansion. But now there is a slight reason more to play these raids over and over again helping to drag and keep the hardcore player base playing the game as long as possible.
I think a simple solution is top have pinnacles drop at +2 when above 950. It maintains the prestige of leveling up because pinnacles are still rare and difficult to obtain, but it makes it possible to reach 960
I really like it . It honestly gives us something to grind for and keep the raids , iron banner , dungeons , new seasonsl events relevant . It gives a us a reason to grind and keep grinding
Not every slot has to be 950. I was getting 951 pinnacles from the raid on my warlock with only 3 950 items. Pinnacles drop the same as normal weapons / gear, based on your highest light item in your inventory. Also, I feel that 960 is not meant to be a one season grind. I think we are meant to reach 960 over multiple seasons. The seasonal artifact is there to act as a stop-gap, since we reset it every season.
i see this as a great thing, especially if they just increase the power max by 50 every season like last year. If you essentially get a +10 maximum boost to reaching the cap, i think that’s a good incentive to doing pinnacle activities. makes you ready for the next raid. even a +3 power overall will be super beneficial since its spread out evenly across all your slots
Below you will see some of my suggestions for making changes to the number of ways guardians could acquire pinnacle loot (in no particular order) - Could leverage the Cryptarch to convert 8 (or some number) of Prime Engrams into 1 Pinnacle Engram. This would only be available to guardians who have reached 751 because I do believe that pinnacle activity completion is required to reach 760. I also think that this could be limited to 1 once per week. - Each season could provide challenging Triumphs and/or Seals (specifically from pinnacle activities) which grant only 1 pinnacle dop - Each Master Nightmare Activity should be curated to have vastly different modifiers (hopefully even more challenging) which each drop Pinnacle loot - Shadowkeep Raid Challenges on the highest difficulty (granted the challenge is hopefully challenging) should drop a pinnacle from the raid loot pool - Shax and Drifter should have their own pinnacle weekly quest or bounty tied to Shadowkeep's theme.
I think the Pinnacle rewards should have more intentionality attached to earning them, and thus do away with the RNG aspect. Put the pinnacle engram on a rotating basis that tells you straight up what you're chasing. Example: Week 1 NF - Pinnacle engram is a helmet Week 2 NF - Pinnacle engram is a primary weapon Week 2 Raid - 1st encounter is a special weapon, 2nd encounter RNG, 3rd encounter gloves, 4th RNG Week 3 Iron Banner- each bounty is something different Week 4 NF- RNG pinnacle Keeps the carrot on the stick by keeping some RNG in the mix but adds that intentionality that is nonexistent right now.
As a casual player I feel Datto have a point and this should be addressed because when the new season comes out the artifact will be removed until you unlock it again in the season pass
Maybe 960 is the end goal for the entire year?? Future seasons will reset the artifact levels, but may introduce new pinnacle activities. Just a thought though.
I have 198 hrs in the game as off now. and got 2 characters 960, ive seen heaps of 960+ players in Iron banner. If get the artifact from the season pass you also get +11 power if you grind it out.
Definitely agree that power level feels more like a vanity pursuit than it ever has before. As for whether or not that's a good thing, well I'm not 950 so I can't really comment on that yet lol.

You're forgetting something. At the end of the season, our artifact resets, but we keep our higher level gear, so next season we will rank up further, and the season after that and so on. I agree 100% that it's great to be able to run nightfalls many times, but I would like to get something out of running the raid multiple times, after being constantly asked to help, getting nothing for it is not good enough.
950 is where Im going to actually care about my armor stats and mods. I really dont care about getting to 960, if it happens fine.

@Cp they'd have re-rework the power damage to enemies again. Since people will probably easily clear new activities at previous season power levels.
The power level will not increase ....
The artifice is for power Progression in seasons
ItzTheDub maybe they might try to shift power increases more towards the low side for seasons with a bigger boost for each dlc, possibly having this season and the next have the same 960 cap with no increase in power next season, then increasing it by like 30 to 990 with a pinnacle cap of 1000 for the next 2 seasons. Makes getting to the pinnacle cap a lot more reasonable if you give it 2 seasons not 1
Datto: Thoughts on The Pinnacle Power Grind (950-960)
Me: You guys are past 920?
I'm a pretty casual player and I'm at 937.
I think I'm a hardcore player, but I got tons of other games to play, still at 929.
I am 920 and I feel I am getting stale :/
@@josephgarfield3363 I'm a somewhat casual too and I'm at 949
I’m at 955 on my titan
Iron Banner + Nightfall = 4 Kinetic drops + 1 Chest piece and I already have 3 Kinetic weapons at 951 😭
"I have my own thoughts, which I will now say with mouth noises."
I don't play Destiny anymore, but I still watch Dattos videos.
@@VexJinks - Just tell people you were there day 1. They won't know any better and u get more cool guy points.
Getting old gear doesn't feel great either.
Dude i purchased the dlc and still getting better devils drops and year one armor from vendors
@@luisarmada9926 And they said they aren't focusing on vendor refreshes. It's hard to play the game when there isn't anything you really want to chase.
It isn't great that there aren't many new sets, but I do like having the old vanguard set with the ornaments I unlocked with the new perk system.
C'mon man, don't you wanna grind for your 100th salad-covered Mercury weapon?!
Just remember guys, The Taken King was $40 and Shadowkeep is $35. Do you really feel like it's wort that ccompared to TTK?
Congrats Datto on 1 million subscribers
Maybe they should just keep Menagerie as powerful. That fixes the RNG problem until you get to 950 at least. Idk just some thought :) Great video!
He didn't mention rng to 950? And powerful reward (3 strikes 4 crucible 3 gambit and 8 bounties etc) works
ThatSniper Guy 5:30 He was talking about leveling in general here. That’s what I was referring to with my comment.
4 crucible too much with banner on as well.
It would be good if every raid would give pinnacle rewards, that would give a reason to play the old ones even when you already have the weapons you want from it
True
Facts
Even if it was only the final boss that dropped it it would be nice to have a reason to play the old raids again
@@nennerbhill10 Riven chee-
I mean all the old raids have armor 2.0, so that in itself is a reason to play them if you like the armor.
My question though: what's the point of pinnacle level grinding if we have the artifact which provides us with infinite leveling to begin with?
More leveling I guess?
Faster levels
Gear upgrades make you feel like you're progressing
This.
It's pointless and to give some people a hamster wheel to run on until they can consume the next content drop
"I'm pretty indifferent" - Datto
I don’t think Bungie’s intent was to have a “I completed this expansion.” It’s supposed to be endless. I enjoy having a hard grind to 960. But I do think it should be obtainable. Maybe just add a few more sources and have a protection from bad rng
@@surton91 Same! All for my secondary weapon! I wonder if Bungo did that on purpose.
I swear to god if the Dungeon is 970 im game ending myself
Get that noose ready then
why? that adds to the challenge whichll make it fun!
I doubt they'll put it that high. I'm guessing 950. Maybe 960.
I think most hardcore players are ready for the next dungeon. I'm gonna speculate that the new dungeon is gonna be a pinnacle activity. So get excited. If it were too easy, we wouldnt feel rewarded overcoming such a challenge.
Wish it would be. I'd rather have the challenge.
Congrats on 1 million subs datto (: well deserved
Huh, I didn't know about the pinnacle grind until now
I didnt either i thought 950 was max and then today i got a 951 weapon i was like wtf is this
The grind above the 950 base cap is a bit of a flashback to the VoG gear grind in D1. Hoping and praying to the RNG gods for that one gear piece drop.
Man im still trying to get to 950 im at 930, feel like im not going up at all
CodyCoCo are you doing all powerfuls on all three characters while bringing weapons to each character? If yes, are you also using tokens to balance gear out?
@@RyanAlters i dont have time to max all three characters lol just my main, I guess I need to start using more token based stuff
CodyCoCo fuck that I’ll just wait until they give us more powerful rewards lol the game isn’t going anywhere just enjoy it.
CodyCoCo 930 while only grinding 1 character is pretty good. So you’re not that behind with how you’re playing.
I hit 960 pretty easily then I realized he was talking without artifact
It's gonna be hard to upgrade each slot one by one.
Check destinytracker.com some are already 976. Artifactlevel 25 (0.o)
Chuwie bro I saw someone with 981 like wth
I’m not sure he’s correct because I’ve received a 951 helmet and my highest base power (without artifact) is 948. I don’t have 950 items in my energy slot or chest, boots, or class item on the character in question.
DATTO 1 MILLION SUBSCRIBERS CONGRATULATIONS!
When everyone’s talking about hitting 960 but I haven’t even hit 920 yet :)
Did anyone else just now notice datto hit 1 mil? Contracts man I love your videos and hope you keep growing, the next mil awaits.
I think one or two of the 6 previous raids each week should drop pinnacle gear but that’s just a fairly bad idea although it would insensitive playing the older raids
Nah that’s a good idea
Jaxon Stephens that’s your opinion
But thanks
thats a good idea man maybe have a raid each week on rotation that drops pinnacle gear.
I don’t even have to watch the video to know how he feels about it.
Congrants on 1million!!!!
I feel ya on the getting a ton of special weapons. Between IB and raid and 100k NF I've gotten only energy weapons this week.
same for me but only kinetics. i think they really need to do a new system where what ever drops for you as a powerful is guaranteed to be a +1 at the least in that slot until its maxed then it wont drop that slot anymore. for people who are worried about getting duplicates at the cap to infuse other gear thats what the new "drop at power" would help with.
@@TheFallinhalo exactly what I think mate, or they just need to add more pinicle drops. IMO they should make iron banner permanent

Congratulations Datto on reaching 1 million subscribers
So your main achievement is the season pass reward and lucky for you eris is prepared for that
This was actually very clarifying and helpful. Thanks for your thoughts, Datto.
@@TheProBrodie yea this definitely works but skill fades pretty quick, I can't even get 2 straight kills with my NF anymore
Omega8Trigun
Yes, it was.
When does this season end ?
You can check in-game above the seasons pass. I think it's about 45 days now or smth

I agree, the grind to 960 is meant for long term, probably the entire next year. While each new season will provide the artifact reset for new light grinding. I think 950/960 is here to stay for the full year
I just don’t understand the point in having a power cap that you don’t intend people to hit why even bother making that the power cap instead of just calling the actual power cap the power cap and not lie to everyone and tell them it’s some other number
to create an artificial grind
I wouldn't rule it out in the progression, because it allows you to:
1. Always feel like you're progressing your light level despite bad drops during pinnacle leveling
Yes those 2 activities on repeat is soooo much fun.... lol I'm already bored of the raid and nightfall...
@@pilks4k its ok mate. Maybe bungie will make something you like someday
Lol i remember when people used to exaggerate their statements by saying “ wE WiLl Be aBlE tO lVL oUr GaURdIaNs InFINitelY”
I mean, technically you can with the artifact. But it'll be a huge grind and probably not worth it
You can. It’s not at all practical, but it is possible
Congrats on 1 Mil Datto!
960 is for THE WHOLE YEAR
Power level will NOT INCREASE DURING Y3 - that is what the ARTIFACT is for
So every season you’ll just grind some levels until it resets? Where did you hear this?
@@abudgie6909 every season you grind your artifact until it resets
During the whole time you can grind your overall base power to get to 960
They always said: If you see people with 960 power you know they did A LOT of pinnacle activities
Also: Even New Light players are able to reach 960 power
Both statements would be wrong if the power increases each season
I think the core issue is that people kind of think that the 960 cap now is the same as all caps in previous years meaning that only when you reach 960, you actually completed the power grind and can now worry about details like stats and mods, which is wrong. The cap is 950, everything beyond that is just bonus
I think the artifact bonus is more balanced with a cap thats this hard to hit.
I'm highly delighted to be part of Datto's 1 million clan. Another fine vid, cheers from the UK Datto.
Bungie rewriting the definitions of words, pinnacle now means pitiful.
Lol ive seen this comment somewhere
Anything over 950 will potentially be huge for future world's firsts. Starting a new power-climb with upto 10 points ahead of the effective cap could be crucial.
Maybe next season we'll unlock the "True ending" to the Dreaming City. Maybe.
I like the new setup. You get stronger by constantly doing what you like. I’m 964 with no raid attempts. Just found my favorite activity and kept banging out bounties for it. This new way of leveling is truly for those who actually love the game. Not for those who are looking for a done feeling.
It's almost like LL is a terrible progression system.
Dusty dae gearscore bad !!1!!11!one
Finally you hit 1 million keep going datto you are the best
Don’t tell us we have a 960 cap and have no actual way to do that “THIS” season. We need more pinnacle drops. Gambit/Crucible resets? NF other than 100k? Random bounties like the Forge ones? Etc. Make the current pinnacles worth more. Your math was for one set of armour and weapons. What about alts? Exotics? Either they’re waiting to roll out something like tier 2 pinnacle drops or this was a huge oversight on their part. If they want a happy community don’t do stupid shit like this. Or give us a realistic way and timeline to do so.
or it is meant to be something to work toward over the year with the artifact being the light increase
Below are my Pinnacle drops from IB and are my only 951 items.
3 Primary
6 Energy
5 Power
Warlock 2 Chest
Hunter 1 Gauntlet
Titan 1 boots
This was doing the 4 bounties per character and a few extras that have popped up. Period.
Bobby Wan Kenobi why?
Alex Zannini I covered a few things. what part do you want me to explain?
960 is meant to be reached DURING THE YEAR
Since we don’t have any power increased
Seasonal activities will be 750 power any way (Vex Offensive)
I think the system is fair, you can either go after those materials with high level activities or purchase them at the gunsmith if you are not able to, as far as leveling, it keeps some incentive to replay end game content while providing a challenge but with the artifact boost doesn't make it impossible to all and do some degree is still rewarding
This comment is gonna be off topic.
Has anyone else just randomly been unsubbed from people? I clicked on this vid and I was unsubbed, I refreshed the page and I was unsubbed again wtf is going on with youtube.
Yep. Ive been unsubbed from multiple people I watch on a constant basis. Its weird.
Even though recluse is still the best weapon in the game and at the current rate of pinnacle gear drops and potential rng you might never get a higher gear score than 950
Datto:is basically impossible to hit 960 in a single season
*shows character in 965*
The issue here is with people thinking of 960 as the cap.
I’d like to see a system where as a season progresses more pinnacle sources are added over time, so it just gets easier by seasons end.
I miss having the Menagerie power drops to get that one piece that is holding your overall power level back...
Congrats on 1 mill Datto.
One bonus is that you can get your second and third character to 950 in seconds as long as you max out your first character. Transfer all your highest weapons and then simply redeem all your season pass armour one by one as it resets all the drops.
Congrats on 1 million datto. Love ur channel
I had no idea that the 950-960 grind wasnt currrently possible... I assumed after I hit 950, pinnacle drops would work like additive powerful drops, but now I feel like I'm gonna wear myself out in that grind.
1 mil! Congrats Datto!
I think the best way around it is to give 5 light Levels above the hard cap. So for example you get to 950 and then everything drops at 955 then when you get all 955 gear you then can get 960 gear. This would be good for those of us that are Hardcore Destiny players but would like to play other games at the same time but the artifact is a good start.
a lot of the backround nightfall footage gave me vibes of those terminator arcade games with the waves of robots
Yo 1 mill, congrats Datto you legend!!
Either make it achievable by augmenting some weeklys once you reach 950 to also grant pinnacle gear like:
- Complete Master rank NFs
- Win X crucible survival game
Or don´t cap it at all (open end and you could theoreticaly surpas 960) but keep the drop rate as is to signal that it´s not a "goal you need to achieve in a season"
Happy 1million subs datto
Damn son 1 million been here for awhile...nice work
i see this as a great thing, especially if they just increase the power max by 50 every season like last year. If you essentially get a +10 maximum boost to reaching the cap, i think that’s a good incentive to doing pinnacle activities. makes you ready for the next raid. even a +3 power overall will be super beneficial since its spread out evenly across all your slots
Congratz on 1 million :)
Below you will see some of my suggestions for making changes to the number of ways guardians could acquire pinnacle loot (in no particular order)
- Could leverage the Cryptarch to convert 8 (or some number) of Prime Engrams into 1 Pinnacle Engram. This would only be available to guardians who have reached 751 because I do believe that pinnacle activity completion is required to reach 760. I also think that this could be limited to 1 once per week.
- Each season could provide challenging Triumphs and/or Seals (specifically from pinnacle activities) which grant only 1 pinnacle dop
- Each Master Nightmare Activity should be curated to have vastly different modifiers (hopefully even more challenging) which each drop Pinnacle loot
- Shadowkeep Raid Challenges on the highest difficulty (granted the challenge is hopefully challenging) should drop a pinnacle from the raid loot pool
- Shax and Drifter should have their own pinnacle weekly quest or bounty tied to Shadowkeep's theme.
I think the Pinnacle rewards should have more intentionality attached to earning them, and thus do away with the RNG aspect. Put the pinnacle engram on a rotating basis that tells you straight up what you're chasing.
Example:
Week 1 NF - Pinnacle engram is a helmet
Week 2 NF - Pinnacle engram is a primary weapon
Week 2 Raid - 1st encounter is a special weapon, 2nd encounter RNG, 3rd encounter gloves, 4th RNG
Week 3 Iron Banner- each bounty is something different
Week 4 NF- RNG pinnacle
Keeps the carrot on the stick by keeping some RNG in the mix but adds that intentionality that is nonexistent right now.
This to me has been the most rewarding destiny progression to date
Datto doing a 980, getting an Enhanced Mod, 2 Prisms, 1 Ascendant Shard and an Exotic. Meanwhile I've yet to get an Ascendant Shard in 10+ runs. Feelsbad.
Have you already levelled your season pass? You can get a couple (maybe more, I'd have to check) Ascendant Shards from the pass.
Appreciate the help, but I am everything but new to the game. 120+ currently on the pass. Just complaining about RNG
