  • From the album 'A Legend Evermore'. This is a collection of nineteen songs telling the history of the Blaydon/Winlaton area of Tyneside. 'Winlaton Coal' is the first song then carry on through the playlist to hear the full story, ending with Summerhill Sunset.
On the north eastern outskirts of Blaydon, near the river, lies Blaydon Haughs Industrial Estate. Local people know the area as 'the Spike'. Here there were a few terraced rows, the home of a very close knit community. They were known as 'the Spikers'. The place is remembered with great affection by all who lived there. Some houses were demolished in the 1950s, the remainder in the 1960s. The residents mostly moved into Blaydon or up the hill to Winlaton.
