  • After fourteen quite magnificently efficient days of commissioning, Taihoro begins her journey up to Barcelona to defend the Louis Vuitton 37th America’s Cup, leaving perhaps, to the casual spectator, more questions than answers with certainly a whole heap of performance improvements yet to be realised. This has been a valuable block of training for the Kiwis who know they have an immense platform to now work-up into a world-beating machine - and the Kiwis know it will be anything but easy.

Surely Taihoro will have the best proven foil sailors on board ..I will await with interest and see how many of the boats end up underwater...I just hope Taihoro will not...The point I am trying to make is the experience and quality of the crew may be the telling factor ...Most NZers remember the Plastic bucket ...??We went through a lot to get to where we are and nobody wants to throw it away...

I only have one grip, who cares if you get more money overseas to stage the AMERICA'S CUP, we the NZ people invested in the boat and race too, only to see it go off shore, pretty dam sad about that, people would have come to NZ to see the race and take a holiday here generating capital for all of us, and have a party at the same time.
PS- it's all about NZ here in NZ, not in some far flung country.
If we manage to retain the America's cup, stage it in NZ OK, it's our cup too.
