  • I bought Full self driving in 2021 for $8,000. It went up to $10,000 and now it's $12,000.
    Do I think it's worth getting and do I regret it??
    V12 has been released and it HAS gotten a lot better. It can do U-Turns now! But it's still BETA!

    I got docked like ten points on the test to get my drivers license for changing lanes in an intersection. The women giving me the test said that it was a violation and was unsafe due to the chances of being hit by someone who was turning right on red into what would have been a clear lane until I moved into it. That was 1996 in Oregon so who knows today.

    Totally agree with your recommendation. Do not purchase at the time of the car purchase, buy it later-or better yet, subscribe. I subscribe and pay $99/mo (I had purchased Enhanced Autopilot, which I sort of regret now.) FSD, for me, actually makes driving more difficult. It reminds me of when I am flying an aircraft. I have to be super diligent and look at gauges frequently, make sure I’m following the course ATC tells me to follow, and constantly look around. With FSD, in addition to paying attention to the road (and anticipating what other drives may do), I have the added burden of making sure it’s not going to do something I don’t want. It randomly changes lanes for no reason that I can see. It brakes suddenly for no apparent reason (EAP does this too), when it’s turning sometimes it just decides mid-turn that it should do something else. Stress. Sometimes it’s embarrassing, such as when it turns on the turn signal to change lanes, starts the change, and then decides it not going to do that.

    Does enhanced autopilot give the view of FSD because I like the street view and screen view of FSD. However I don’t like the sudden lane change by FSD because sometimes it has its own odd behavior. I would prefer to control lane change like we can do in enhanced auto pilot.

    I just tried out FSD for my first time yesterday--spent about 2 hours letting it drive. But I couldn't figure out how to make it go a bit faster. For example, I was on a 4 lane parkway and I wanted to go 10 or so over the speed limit, but if often went slower even when nothing was in front of us--I played around with trying to add +10 mpr and a percentage but nothing seemed to really work. The most annoying was when it wouldn' even keep up with a car ahead of us--any suggeestions? Overall I was impressed with FSD!

  • @DerekRasina
    @DerekRasina Před měsícem +4

    We have FSD on our 2018 M3. We got it when they had that sale that pissed off a lot of owners for 5K. It was worth it for us as we take a lot of trips to So-Cal and the new v12 is finally feeling like they are going in the right direction. That being said on our 2023 Model Y we didn't purchase it. The autopilot that comes with it is really enough for us but it would be nice if it allowed you to make a lane change when you use the blinker (auto change lane that is). I don't really need the car to make all of the lane changes on its own during our trips as its decision making on when to get over can be irritating at times. My $.02.... after probably 50k of autopilot miles.

      Please be careful I had several hours of freeway driving on FSD 12.3 and the enhancements only apply mainly to street roads on the freeway it defaults back to version 11. Same old behaviors like at times going too wide when changing lanes causing other cars to think you're about to skip the lane and merge onto their (3rd) lane then the car pulls itself back into the center of the (2nd) lane. Sudden reduction in speed on the freeway, driving on the yellow lane near the shoulder of the fast lane during slight turns/bends causing constant bumps on the drivers side during the turn.

Ever since that "upgrade," in my Model Y, I can't take my eyes off the road for anything! It yells at me and will stop letting you use the auto-drive option. In the notes it said if you let the alarm go too long a couple of times in 24 hours, or something like that, it will disable Auto-drive for a week or two. (I haven't had that happen.) I have a 3 month trial and i have found it very unsafe. On the freeway on the carpool with open lane it started braking at 75 mph and i was expecting it to do that so took over right away. I could have gotten rear ended. Double left turn lane it sometimes goes too far out and it feels like its going straight to the curb. At night it doesn't recognize school zone sign only for school hours so it would slow down to 25 mph instead of going the regular speed limit of 40 mph. Another was when it navigated a freeway exit that split into 2 lanes it missed the exit even though there was no other cars behind me or in front. I dont think it is worth to buy.

    I just downloaded FSD 12.3 but haven't had the chance to try it yet. I'm anxious to, but will be disappointed if it still cannot find my house or exit the gate in my neighborhood. I will also be disappointed if it changes lanes in the middle of the intersection, because not only is it annoying and potentially dangerous in my local spot where it always wants to do that, it is generally illegal, at least in CA (it's in the vehicle code), to change lanes in the middle of an intersection unless it is for safety. Here's the one caveat, Chris. I think FSD is going to be making huge advancements in the coming months and at some point, Tesla will give free trials of it to everyone. But at that point, I would expect the cost for FSD, both outright and monthly subscription, to increase as well. Really good and balanced insights from you, BTW. You're really great at this. Cheers.

    • @JeffMcNeal
      @JeffMcNeal Před měsícem

      @@Kjin3It's not a matter of opinion. It's in the vehicle code. I've read it. While it may not get you a ticket, it is generally frowned upon to change lanes in an intersection.

      @EverydayChris  Před měsícem

      Interesting! Good Points! I knew it was illegal! I wonder why lots of people told me it's legal and why Tesla still does it lol. Thanks Jeff! hope all is well

    • @Kjin3
      @Kjin3 Před měsícem +1

      @@JeffMcNeal Maybe you should read it again :) There isn't a specific California Vehicle Code (CVC) section that explicitly says it's legal to change lanes in an intersection. However, the general lane change rules outlined in CVC Sections 22107 and 22108 indirectly imply it's permissible under certain conditions.
      Here's the breakdown:
      CVC Section 22107: This section prohibits unsafe lane changes. It states that a driver can't change lanes "until such movement can be made with reasonable safety" [California Vehicle Code § 22107 CVC]. This section focuses on the safety aspect, not the location of the lane change.
      CVC Section 22108: This section requires drivers to signal before changing lanes "in the event any other vehicle may be affected by the movement" [California Vehicle Code § 22108 CVC]. Again, the focus is on ensuring other drivers are aware of your intent, not the specific location of the lane change.
      So, as long as you follow the rules for safe lane changes (signaling, checking blind spots, having enough space), there's no legal code directly prohibiting lane changes in intersections. However, remember it's generally discouraged due to the increased risk of accidents.

So, for example, that they are on their cell phones, sleeping or something similar and this creates bad marketing for Tesla by saying that these cars are bad. simply because some Tesla owners don't pay attention while driving and rely completely on the system

    So you have Ver 12. And still not good for you?..
    Every body on CZcams is saying how much they like it.
    I would subscribe to it if I knew
    I would get ver 12. I have had 4 tesla so far. First one 2018. Model 3. Bought fsd. 8000.00.
    Then my wife wanted a Model Y. I told her we would lose FSD. She did not care. Car now is 2024 Red Model Y.

    V12 and beyond people know what’s up. $200/month is better than paying $12,000 since it’s not transferable from vehicle to vehicle.

    I like how he’s reading about the update for version 12 and then says “like I know what that means”😂 buddy it’s an end to end neural net. Like a human and how we use our eyes to understand the world around us and then react accordingly. You say “they said it was going to work for V10 and V11”😂 this is actually the only way it is ever going to work. It blows my mind how many people are ignorant to the fact that Tesla has done it. When someone says they have a competitor “Kia”😂 it has be rolling in the grave I’m not even in yet. Tesla has no serious competition in the automotive and autonomous driving world.

    Guardian robotics
    To fix the self driving car industry and electric car industry from failure and catalyses them into fail proof industrie guardian propose that the car industry give back the controls to the hands of consumers by making ecu and hbridgs that can eject with one unclip latch and spring loaded push to eject that will cut controls off the wheel motors and give back the power to self drivers .

    I will be going on vacation next week. So I'll pay the $200 for one month and give it a whirl. I'd rather invest a 12K into Tesla stock and make some profit while they're perfecting it instead. :-)
