Your process is too long and will definitely scare certain types of learners.
Here is a quicker method using ordinary Arithmetic.
My Method.
First, let us get the value of 3^13.
3^13 =3^(12 + 1)
3^13 =3^4●3^4●3^4●3^1
But;
3^1 = 3; and 3^4 = 81
3^13 = 3(81●81●81)
3^13 = 3(6561.81)
3^13 = 3(531,441)
3^13 = 1,594,323
3^13 - 4 = 1,594,323 - 4
3^13 - 4 = 1,594,319
