Thank you for introducing Maurice in this movie.
In Japan, Taiki Shuttle is also great miler.
I think the peformance of Beauty Generation in 2018/2019 season can compare with that of Maurice.

That is true. Beauty Generation was a great miler from Hong Kong and his achievements were clearly not forgotten. Japan has really good milers besides Maurice. Don't forget Gran Allegria too. He recently retired after winning 2021 Victoria Mile. He also dominated mile races in this current time.

I think a fantastic miler who often gets overlooked is Zilzal. His performance in the 1989 QE 2 stakes at Ascot is still one of the best mile performances I've ever seen. Polish Precedent was considered unbeatable by the French and Zilzal hammered him. So many great horses and only 10 places to fill but on that performance alone, Zilzal would make my top 10. Glad the two French filles have made this list although I would have placed both a little higher. Obviously there can only be the great Frankel at number 1 and that's where he is. I doubt I will ever see a better horse in my lifetime but we shall see 😊

Flat out for maybe 500 meters. Won over all distances, all directions, sprints all the way up to 2200m/ 11 furlongs, she could have gone further, no horse ever ran her down, amazing horse best thoroughbred ever, her record attests to that. Actually Wise Dan ran 131.75 in the Woodbine Mile on the EP Taylor course which is a course record. I was there and saw that performance. He won with ease and could have easily gone faster. If pushed he could have run in 1:30, or sub 1:30 that day. At the end Johnny Velasquez eased up on him. One of the most brilliant performances at a mile I have ever seen. He’s probably the BEST horse I’ve seen race live at the track.

@Brian Whitehead I agree that Sea the Stars had an amazing 3 year old season, fantastic in every sense of the word and the time you say, well ground was quicker and he didn't really beat an outstanding generation or the older horse where not world beaters. We horsemen know when a horse is using themselves, has a lot in the tank or has given his/her all. Frankel was so so genuine and always had that will to win, his high cruising speed and extra gear and yes he beat very high quality multiple Group 1 winners, Nathaniel, Excelebration, Zoffany. However it was the way he beat them, he just cruised by top group 1 winners with ease. Even when he stepped up to 10F to win his Juddmonte (13th race), so much pressure on him and Sir Henry, it was magic, thats my fav of his 14 undefined wins. Just a freak and we won't see another like him for many years. It was a privilege ❤

I reckon Maurice should be ranked higher than his position on this list. His last 2 wins of his career were over 2000m (Tenno Sho Autumn and Hong Kong Cup) but he has dominated in 1600m races in Japan and he won 2 G1 races in his only 2 G1 starts in HK over 1600m (in fact 3 from 3 in HK although his final G1 win was over 2000m). If he is more recognised outside Japan he should have ranked 2nd on this list at least.
Winx's ranking of 3 was pretty high because, while her record in 1600m was really impressive, her best performances in her career were over 2000m (4 Cox Plates + 3 QE stakes wins said it all). Her 2nd Cox Plate win was mind-blowing considering her rival, Hartnell, won his previous start by at least 3 length while the horse behind Hartnell on that day, Jameka, won the Caulfield Cup in her next start.

      I believe that is correct.

It's very rare conditions are the same from one year to the next. Wind speed/direction and ground conditions.
It's very exposed to the elements.
Times aren't necessarily a reflection of quality.
I suspect Frankel slowed down a lot in that last 300m.
He was probably lucky there wasn't a really good horse in the race who just waited midfield covered up and came late.

Winx was clearly a world class horse capable of winning big races anywhere in the world.
In her final race she was in the back half of her 7yo season and she covered way more ground than Kluger, Happy Clapper, Hartnell.
In her prime and running one off the fence instead of 5 wide she'd have won that by 5 lengths maybe more.
But the point we NH types try and impress on Aussies is that beating Kluger, Happy Clapper, Benbatl, Folkswood, Humidor, Gailo Chop, The United States, the 3yo Highland Reel, Hartnell, Vadamos etc doesn't prove she couldn't be beaten by horses like Cracksman, Poets Word, Canford Cliffs, Excelebration, Crystal Ocean, Enable, Roaring Lion Golden Horn etc.
They are all many lengths better and in a totally different league to the horses Winx beat in Australia.
If she'd raced in Europe from 2015 to 2019 I'm sure we would think she was a great racehorse and she would have won lots of big races - but she wouldn't have gone unbeaten.
Also, beating horses like Kluger, Happy Clapper, Benbatl, Folkswood, Humidor, Gailo Chop, The United States, the 3yo Highland Reel, Hartnell, Vadamos etc doesn't prove she could get anywhere near horses like Sea the Stars or Frankel.
Maybe she would? Maybe she wouldn't? But she was never tested hard enough to make claims like that.

Nah mate, totally wrong and/or irrelevant
Highland Reel wasn’t a particularly worthy opponent at that time.
He’d won a weak turf race in America and failed multiple times in Europe prior to the Cox Plate.
At 4 and 5 he was a pretty decent G1 horse but far below the highest class in Europe and at 3 he was nowhere near it.
His run in the Cox Plate was 5 lengths below his best Northern Hemisphere form and his best NH form was many lengths behind the best NH horses.
All the ratings specialists and form supports that.
So really, beating him well below his best was nothing special.
Many horses beat him over the years by as much or further.
With regards to Frankel, it’s not about travelling, it’s about the quality of opposition
The difference between Winx and Frankel was that if Frankel had travelled he would have raced against worse horses than he was running against at home. The best 1600-2000m horses were in Europe.
Why travel to run against worse horses?
Apart from Wise Dan in America there were no horses in the world as good or better than the horses he was beating in England.
But there were dozens of horses in the world better than Humidor Hartnell and Happy Clapper.
If Winx had travelled she most likely would have met better opponents than she met in Australia
Frankel beat many horses in the top 10 in the world at the time.
      Winx was beating third raters.
      It’s that simple

The fastest mile Winx ran was, as a 7yo, 1:33.57. Once you account for the run-up, those times are pretty much identical (notwithstanding the fact that times are a poor measure and the fact that US racing seldom publishes the run-up distances. If you hand-time Wise Dan's BC Mile win the trime difference is nearly 2.5 seconds... so the run-up must have been at least 30m or 100 feet). 3. I reply to OP that it's the record time for dirt racing in the US but point out it's slower than turf times.
      4. You reply to me telling me things I already know and which relate more to your own original comment than mine.
      5. I reply to you to advise that I already know what you've said and that I don't know why you're commenting directly to me.
      6. You reply to me saying you're not being confrontational (when I've not said you are, I've merely asked why you're replying to me). You then say your comment is due to me making the comparison between dirt and turf and that times aren't comparable (when you made that comparison yourself in your first reply to the OP?) Then you talk about track conditions, which, again, is something I already know.
As I said, I don't understand why you are replying to me. I made one simple reply to the OP's post, that's it. If I thought everything was about times I'd be saying Kingston Rule is the greatest ever winner of the Melbourne Cup.

Brigadier Gerard was a good choice, but I've seen them all and before he got American ringworm Nijinsky the first English triple crown winner since Bahram in 1935 was the best. Frankel never beat that many quality horses and couldn't stay the mile and a half Derby Distance. He's overrated, and it's mainly young people who haven't seen many other champions who think he's the best. You cannot really compare American and English horses either as the Americans generally run on dirt and the English generally run on turf. And as for El Gran Senor if he was as good as some think why didn't Lester speak about him? Lester Piggott said the best horse he rode was Sir Ivor, but this is because he had a good racing brain and he could put him where he wanted him. He said he knew what racing was all about. He knew Nijinsky was the best when he won the King George and Queen Elizabeth Stakes in a canter beating a high class international field. However Nijinsky was highly strung and difficult to handle at times. Yet he won the triple crown and sired 3 Derby winners, no horse that anyone mentions here did that. Mill Reef sired 2, and although beaten by the Brigadier in the Guineas he rapidly improved into becoming an international superstar..

Not taking anything away from the accomplishments of any of the horses on the list I'll ask this, has any horse on that list gone a mile in
    1:32.1/5 while carrying 134 lbs?
    Dr. Fager did!
Oscars performance, and Mandurah hold the world record for a mile, 1:31.23, Mister Light once held the world record at 1:31.41 and Elusive Quality once held the world record at 1:31.63
Since the breeders cup is the test of world class competition then let the breeders cup mile be the gage for best milers, and if your favorite miler has a time faster than one on the list below let him/her get in where they fit in.
With that being said here is my list.
    1. Tourist. (BC Mile) 1:31.71
    2. Wise Dan. (BCM) 1:31.78
    3. Val Royal. (BCM) 1:32.05

    7. Spinning World (BCM) 1:32.60
    8. Miesque. (BCM) 1:32.80
    9. Lure. (BCM) 1:32.80
These are the 10 fastest performances in the
    Breeders Cup Mile.
Though there have been multiple winners of this most prestigious race, only one horse has multiple clockings in the top ten fastest times. "WISE DAN"
On the world stage at a mile
WISE DAN is the overall best!

Ad hominem attacks are not valid arguments. If times are for idiots then why bother timing anything or noting course records or any type of speed record. Yes a one turn race should be slightly faster than a two turn race, but the person here claimed that no one had run sub 1:32 mile. That isn’t exactly true. And regardless wasn’t both Easy Goer and Dr Fager races run around one turn? Then maybe we shouldn’t keep any records given that every track surface is different. Secretariat’s 2:24 for the Belmont shouldn’t count either since that is a 1.5 mile course, while most tracks are only 1 mile ovals. And surfaces change all the time. Yet records are kept. And world records are noted for distances and surfaces. All because that is idiotic?! I think not!
