    Real arcade hardware, NOT the PlayStation 2 port of the game!!!! Even though, it’s an exact port, minus optical Guncon 2 support for the PlayStation 2 port. The arcade version uses a CD as opposed to the PlayStation 2 version which uses a DVD.
    I was finally able to get the arcade version of Vampire Night working with my custom IR gun and the Crisis Zone CCD camera. Vampire night was released in March of 2000 in two style arcade cabinets: Standard and Deluxe. This game uses both the Namco Rays JVS Pcb and a variation of the Namco V221 MIU pcb similar to Crisis Zone’s I/O but with a different program eprom and FPGA Altera max chip. The arcade game is NOT an optical light gun game but a CCD camera game. Vampire Night originally released on the Namco System 246 (A) pcb but I got it to run on the Namco System 246(B) pcb (works on all revisions of the Namco system 246 hardware Ver.Driving to Ver.C. It’s not compatible with the Namco System 256 or Super 256. Since I don’t have the real dongle, I’m using the Namco System 2X6 USB multi-dongle, which is available for purchase on the arcade-projects site. Prices for the custom guns and gun sensors will be available soon.

      I agree. The reload voice in the PS2 game was like HOTD3 and I wasn't very happy. The arcade version has that unique echo that I love.
      The gameplay is fun but could be more challenging. I'd rate the game 8.5/10

    After seeing this, you gotta hand it to the porting team for the PS2, it's pretty much identical to the arcade version, I'm not seeing any noticeable visual differences apart from the ever so slightly sharper texture resolution. I imagine the namco system 246 had almost similar specs to the playstation 2? Good vid man

      The early Namco system 246 (A/B) is basically an early GH-005/006 launch PlayStation 2 motherboard with a custom bios and a custom Namco motherboard with extra ram in a huge metal case. The Namco system 246(C) was a smaller version with a custom one board solution to cut down cost. I think this game was originally supposed to be a Sega NAOMI game but was released onto this arcade system for easier porting to the PlayStation 2. I actually have a launch fat PlayStation 2 with the exact same motherboard that the arcade system uses. Thank you so much as well!

      I was just gonna say all Namco system 246 games that were ported to the PS2 back in the day were arcade perfect, I mean look at time crisis 3 it was the arcade version exact on the PS2, and vampire night is DEFINITELY arcade perfect, a pixel perfect port ❤️

    • @FIGHTERSCHOICEArcade
      @FIGHTERSCHOICEArcade  Před rokem +5

      They actually are not 100% perfect, there are minor differences between some games such as Time Crisis 3 arcade version having 60FPS cutscenes instead of 30FPS like on the console port and Vampire Knight supporting more sprites on screen in the arcade version unlike the console version. I get your point that they are pixel perfect as the arcade hardware is basically a PlayStation 2 with a few modifications/upgrades but yeah, the arcade ports still remain a bit better IMO.

      I haven’t noticed that until now lol! I do have the PlayStation 2 version of the game and I really enjoy it. The only downside is that I have to use a CRT tv. I must say, the arcade version plays a lot better, the gun calibration though, it’s a pain in the ass, even if the camera moves slightly. Finding the game,the I/O board, and the gun is another issue. Hoped you enjoyed this video :)

    I remembered people used to line up to play this game in the aracdes back in 2001/2002 but they didn't knew that they lined up to play PS2 version inside arcade cabinet the Guncon 2 just gave that hint away thanks to your info.
    But man that complicated setup was THE reason why the aracde centers in my country never received the real arcade unit, it sounded needlessly complicated, I bet tried to get a capture out of this must have been quite a work.
    I didn't know PS2 version were that jaggied so I guess they did improved the game's visual and performance for the home release as well Namco back then were known to pulled some amazing enhanced ports, Time Crisis 2 and Time Crisis Crisis Zone on PS2 were the best examples.
    Nowadays its much better to to play this on PS2 with Guncon 2 or PCSX2 at 1440p or 4K.

    Unfortunately don't have a PS2 to relive the glory of this game but emulation with a Wii gun was close enough with few hickups
    Vampire Night may be a one off game but it certainly could've made it big with a sequel like House of the Dead 2 did for House of the Dead 1

      Hello! Thank you for the meaningful comment! I really appreciate it! I’m actually using a custom built gun and the real arcade hardware as the gun it uses is extremely rare. I reversed engineered and built a gun that works with these games as they use a completely different setup. These are not traditional optical light gun games but instead CCD camera games. That’s why no white flashes appear. The only other games that utilizes this gun setup is Crisis Zone and a variant of Time Crisis 3.

    • @FIGHTERSCHOICEArcade

      I got a video on my CZcams channel show off my gun. It in fact uses an old school camera (basically a security camera) that points on the display and the gun has a very powerful IR led inside. It’s totally different from what modern light gun games use today. It’s not really too accurate as if sunlight/any source of light hits the display it can cause issues. Also the camera has to be pointed to the screen. Any display can be used, I was using an lcd monitor to play. The I/O board does all the signal processing. The only sad thing is that the I/O boards are incredibly rare.

    Will this system ever be emulated? It is supposed to use a similar hardware to playstation 2

    • @FIGHTERSCHOICEArcade
      @FIGHTERSCHOICEArcade  Před 2 lety +2

      You are partially correct, the thing that’s killing the likelihood of ever seeing this system being emulated is the custom Namco chips on the Namco motherboard and the implementation of the dongle files and the way it boots on the system. The Konami stuff is even worse as the hard drives they used are encrypted by Sony’s MagicGate system. Not even replacement hard drives for real arcade systems can be made for the Konami hardware. Luckily, a lot of information has been uncovered and a lot of people are pretty interested, so emulation should be possible in 5 years, give or take. If not, probably another decade or so. The only way to play the games is either the home ports or getting the actual arcade hardware.
