    One thing i didnt mention that I thought I had. Much of the extra power made by the S&S and Zippers cam could be due to another factor...to properly tune with a cat installed in the headpipe, the AFR should be a bit leaner than without to avoid overheating the cat. The leaner mixture could also have created an increase in the numbers. All this said...the manufacturers test their products and all we can assume is that they published the highest number they obtained in their testing with the stated equipment. Main point of the video is to illustrate again, how the cam specs effect the final performance and characteristic of the curves, and what each means. Hope you enjoyed it.

    Excellent video explanation of how critical cam choice is. The M-8 motor HP is held back by low RPM operation. In your video building torque earliest and holding onto it longest, makes a very streetable, enjoyable bike to ride. Good Dyno numbers for a stock 107. Excellent video Kevin.

  • @richardedwin5980

    Kevin...thanks for that break down. Looks like I made the right choice in cams 7mos ago. I have a 2018 Road Glide Special. When I bought it I had a HD Stage 3 build done basically bumping it up to a 114. Everything used was HD except for the headers which were FuelMoto Jackpot 2-1-2. I used the Screamin' Eagle 4" Street Cannons & Screamin' Eagle Street Tuner. I ONLY went this route for warranty purposes. Respectively the dyno showed 113.84ft lbs tq and 109.24hp. This past April my factory warranty expired and I decided to install the Zippers 468 cam, S&S adjustable push rods, S&S billet tappet cuffs and S&S high flow oil pump and cam face plate since I was already inside the chest. I swapped out the mufflers to Vance & Hines Torquer 450 then had it tuned using PowerVision. I ended up with 140.33ft lb torque and 122.94hp. It is a beast now. A torque monster that hits hard at about 2750rpm all the way up through 4000rpm. I mean it is a rocket strapped to your ass when you twist that throttle!!!! And the "thump?" Yea...you can hear it!! Lol. Can't complain with the performance of this cam. This bike now has 50,500mi on it and gets ridden!!!! I don't beat the day lights out of it but she's also not treated like a queen either. Definitely recommend this cam to anyone who wants a good bump in torque.

    Personally, I'm going with the S&S for my 107. It offers a huge boost in torque and power over stock, but as my only mode of transportation and something I rely on 100% of the time to get anywhere, I don't want to overstress the shit out of the engine and worry about it blowing up after 30k miles.

I always like hearing suggestions on videos though...thank you for the comment and sub.

    Another note. The only reason i switched out my stock chrome Exhaust pipe on my Sport Glide 2020 to V&H Pro Pipe in black is eliminating chrome. I believe Chrome belongs in the Bathroom xD.
    But hell, I didn't know that stock exhaust systems can actually perform equally as good as a "competition or whatever" aftermarket pipes. All those who wish to maintain lower emissions and decent sound to make the bike pass in the yearly inspections is very convenient too. Win-Win!

If any? is the lower duration and a little higher lift of the RS468 the winner in that case? Great information video. I’ve been Cam Hoppin’ on my 131 M-8. Had a Zippers 468 in it for awhile. I just put in T-Man TMP-2652. It seems to have more power but it’s a gas hog...even without getting on it my best mileage is 33MPG. Seems to run hot too. I installed a Dakota Digital Gauge set at the same time. I’m getting head temperatures as high as 327 degrees on the freeway. The plugs aren’t white so I’m not running lean. They seem to be right. I don’t know what it was before I had the temp gauge but it seems awfully hot. Luckily I use Amsoil. I’m going to fashion some wind deflectors for the rear cylinder.

    • @KevinBaxter
      @KevinBaxter  Před 4 lety +1

      468 is pretty small for a 131 man. 327 head temp (measured at the base of the plug) isnt too bad really. 33MPG is relative to how you ride it. If you regularly roll at 75 to 80mph, it will get much worse fuel mileage than averaging 65. advanced Ign timing will heat one up as well.

    I recently put the zippers 468 on my 114 with vance and hines power duels with harley street cannon slip ons. This really woke up the bike. The shop that tuned it said at the very top of rpm range it shows bigger injectors and air clean would provide better performance at that range. I bought the cam because of its mid range performance for cruising and also for using the bike in slow skills practice. Your explanation are great and if I get in your part of GA hope to stop by.

    Exhaust opening point at BBDC is an important factor in torque production. Lobe separation angle is also important. When looking at intake close as a torque factor lobe intensity is needed because we don't know the actual intake close, just at a .053" lift. Compression bleeds whenever the valve is not seated on the way up on compression stroke. Lift is relatively not significant when comparing these bolt-in cams with stock heads.Just my humble opinions

    The higher the centerline number the wider the RPM range the lower the number the narrower the RPM range is. In cars a 114 CL is good for a long range of RPM. A 106 can is good for a sort track type car because it runs in a narrower RPM range.

Seems the opposite. You paused and it seems like you might have just got things backwards in what you said versus what you were thinking. @KevinBaxter  Před 4 lety +3

      GREAT QUESTION!!!! Was hoping someone would ask this. The number are great but....heat can still be a concern. Cats can not be tuned to the same AFR that non cat can. Add more fuel in the tune, and the cat gets hotter. Yes this can be done, and make great numbers....same numbers can be had without the cat, a slightly richer tune, and less heat.

      There are VERY few companies that actually grind cams. Andrews, for example, grind for just about every independent you'll find out there. That being said, not all are of the same quality...heat treat, etc. Not sure who grinds HD cams now. Regardless, HD grinds have to be conservative and work well with the tuning system (HD Street Tuner) they offer and maintain EPA compliance. You'll leave some performance on the table going that route but you'll be able to maintain warranty. It's a choice.

      Yes. Every OEM of every vehicle tunes their machines to the lowest common denominator among their customers. Leave it stock and you will ride safe and reliably with optimal fuel efficiency for many miles, and preserve the resale value. Tune it and you will loose or risk reliability, safety, durability, fuel economy, or all four. Don't forget that Japan ate Harley's lunch on these traits for decades.
