About Sam Ryder
In 2020, as the world went into lockdown, Sam Ryder uploaded the first of his now infamous covers that quickly caught the attention of some famous fans (think Elton John) with compilations appearing on The Ellen Show & BBC's Newsbeat. As the content kept coming, so did the fans, amassing 10 million on socials by the end of the year. Fast forward to 2021 and Sam was crowned as TikTok's most popular UK artist account for the second year in a row.
In 2021, Sam released his 5-song EP 'The Sun's Gonna Rise' including track 'Whirlwind' that describes Sam’s journey - spending much of his adult life writing and performing in bands, living in Hawaii and owning a vegan coffee shop; before he decided to pursue his dream of becoming a solo artist.
Sam's first show in London sold out in under 10 minutes, nearly as quickly as his first full UK tour. Ready to make his first live foray into Europe and beyond, world domination in 2022 might not be a stretch too far for this incredible talent.

I would’ve said all but one of them were good, but we know the spoof band had a message to relay rather than we’re doing it, for shall we say performance professionalism, but I totally agree that Sam Ryder was the best performance for the whole evening, by far!

There are great singers and Sam is obviously one of them. But there are few singers who perform with such authenticity that their connectedness with the audience leaves them spellbound. When Sam was performing I thought he owns the stage like Freddie Mercury. Then I saw Roger Taylor on drums and thought yes this is where Sam is at! Truly exceptional talent and I look forward to seeing more. Thanks Sam, you're amazing!

I cannot love this more! I lost my Mum 5 years ago and 18 months prior to that, she was amputee, above the knee. She was just finding her way within this community and thoroughly embracing it. When I saw this aat eurovision, I couldn't help but shed a tear and smile for her ❤

And Mae was done dirty by having this follow her almost immediately. It watered down her lacklustre lukewarm performance even more. I'm not surprised she performed poorly in the vote when this performance served as a reminder of what we can do when we are good. I don't think this would have won, but it would certainly have been Top 5... 10 at worst.

Well, that was a 2012 Olympic moment. Sam Ryder giving a direct request of Roger Taylor and he responds in his majestic right, that was one hell of a half time performance that will be played back for decades…Freddie would and is proud of you all, well done, privileged to watch that live.

There's so much effortless joy in his performance. When he hits the high note at the end, and then goes up again even *higher*... like it's easy as anything... just incredible. Add onto that it's a beautiful song with lyrics full of hope, and the dancers were wonderful. What a combo. The credit for bringing the Eurovision to the UK this year rests totally on Sam's shoulders. What an absolute legend
I initially thought he should have represented UK again, as it was the performance of the night, but am also very glad that he didn't, because 'Mountain' can now be a Sam Ryder song instead of a Eurovision song
