    I had my first experience with the gealtacht this year and to say the least i was scared out of my mind goin into it mostly because of my lack of irish but i quickly realised as you said yourself you pick up words after hearing them a few times and you learn that speaking the language can be a bit of craic

    American here... it's great that your school has you experience your country's native culture and language! American schools do their best to push Native Americans out of our minds and to have us not learn about and accept them.

      I would advise contacting Lurgan but Cursa D is very exam focused and the standard of Irish is quite high. So more than likely depending on your level of Irish I would say do Cursa B or Cursa C 👍

    Do they teach you much pronounciation and phonetics of the Irish language?
    I've noticed that the Irish of most city people and non-native/non-Gaeltacht people is very anglicised compared to that of the native speakers. (not much adherence to the broad/slender system, differences between broad and slender R's, L's and such, little to no voicing of lenitions etc)

    • @DaraghJordan
      @DaraghJordan  Před 4 lety +1

      The whole course is focused on speaking Irish (which is neglected in school) so yes and very little on written Irish. In my opinion this is the best way to learn Irish

    Just a tip, If you go to the Irish Speaking areas of Ireland, many Ex-Provisional IRA fighters from Tyrone, Londonderry and Fermanagh left after the Good Friday Agreement to those areas, so they will harass anybody who has English Leanings, even if they have an English sounding surname. I highly recommend that you don't go to Irish College during the Summer. Do not get swayed by the Republican Agenda.
