Great review sir! Out of the two I prefer the retro headmaster version....brings back the original G1 and the retro packaging is top notched!
Nice one! But a timebomb nonetheless, good bro. My Takara variant (spotting the later orangy running change) also experienced the infamous degeneration at the canopy connector and broke after about a year of active display. (There are global discussion threads on this issue.) The other issue is the teeth becomes 'gummy' after some time (best not to shut the mouth tight, and keep moving the jaw from time to time to 'un-stick' the mouth). I still have him on active display next to my fully combined yellow Costco Magna Armada-Energon Powerlinx Optimus Prime.
PS. Otherwise, this is one of the most enjoyable modern 'Headmaster' toys I have personally had the pleasure of messing around with. The fun factor is akin to the Voyager IDW Brainstorm & ER Snapdragon. Truly, his pose-ability exceeds the expectations of the times, beating even the likes Sentinel Prime/Astrotrain & Alpha Trion/Lio Convoy!
I've heard a lot of reports about the cockpit breaking. I've been lucky so far. I wonder if it's more prone to happening to certain runs of the toy
@@TFCollector It's true, good bro. Mine broke on one side only (so far), but from various sharing/threads, it seems to be a widespread issue of the 'timebomb' variety rather than being production run related. (Many have opted to cut off the canopy altogether to avoid heartbreak even; and it still works because you will notice in Wolf form, the cavity is large enough to house 2 Titan Masters without the need for the canopy; plus the huge gun can still plug on the hard plastic frame). You know, I myself was devastated upon discovering the break because I got the latter-run Japanese figure as a self-birthday pressie and it holds actual sentimental value; plus the orange running-change version is more limited than the regular one. It's such a great toy but for all the parts using the rubbery material, my bro.
This 'vintage' version you reviewed here could have been the ultimate edition if they included both pilot head sculps plus the small converting vehicle-weapon accessory that comes with the Takara LG version. (Or made it an actual G1 reissue altogether!) :-)
G1 reissues definitely would have been my preference here. I never owned the originals, so I'd love an affordable way to get them.
@@TFCollectorCan they switch heads?
Cute yellow doggo! 🐕💛
I have the Titans Return one. I have been hoping they will continue with the Universal Monster retools as I have the Dracula one. This guy is who I imagine they would use for a WolfMan retool.
He'd male a great Wolfman. The nerd in me also wants to see this as a Digimon crossover figure.
I feel Fangry mold would fit wolfman more since its an upright wolf monster. They could just remove the wings or swap it for something else.
I love the ZeedGarurumon reference!
I'm glad someone appreciated it. 😁
I like it! I'll pick it up when I have the chance.
Thanks for the review!
Thanks for watching. 😁
Nice!! I though that you didn't get this wave, so glad to see the reviews
big fan of this figure, idk why but I've always loved Weird Wolf.
Cute yellow doggo! 🐕😍
He's not a Digimon, he's a ZOID. Geez. get it right. Great review - I fell in love with this version for the Japanese head, additional paint and tampos, richer mustard color and apparently better overall materials and build quality. I actually have the Takara release and even the plastic used for the Headmaster face is better here - the details are much sharper.
Have the Titans return and this version. One stays in robot form and the other in Wolf. Like my Skullcrunchers. Wish Hasbro would do more like these
I'm still hoping for the rest of the Headmasters in Legacy.
nice 👍
Kinda want him & Wolfwire to be depicted as twins.
Great review TF Collector!!!! I think both versions of Weirdwolf are equally impressive, and as you said, neither version is superior to the other. :D Even though it will most likely not happen, I wonder if Apeface and Snapdragon will get released in the Retro Headmasters line? Keep on being amazing.
I'm surprised they haven't done those two. Would have been an easy double dip on two molds that have yet to be reused.
@@TFCollector I agree, especially since Apeface and Snapdragon are my favorite Decepticon Headmasters.
I have mine in permanent robot mode because I'm afraid the canopy might shatter. I the hinges break on my Titans Return so I'm not taking any chances.
I seem to have been lucky on that front. Never had the canopy break, but I've heard of it happening a lot.
You do have the feet backwards.
Huh... so I do... 😅
Can they switch heads
Absolutely.
Rhank you my version will have a split personality
That wolf is not weird
