  • In 2 years Oasis released 2 of the most iconic British albums ever Definitely Maybe and Morning Glory, broke a world record on Knebworth and basically became The Beatles of the 90s. This video essay is about how Liam and Noel Gallagher made that happen and their history. Enjoy! Also please don't put your life in the hands of a rock and roll band lol

I hate this bullshit notion (mainly from the British press sadly) thag they didn't crack America when they cracked it open wide and what people don't realize is Morning Glory has sold more than any Coldplay album, yet Coldplay are apparently so successful in the States. I think Oasis have sold over 5 million copies in the US alone, and another 7 million copies ontop of this of their back catalogue. Some disaster that is 😂

Their music isn't played on American radio and they aren't discussed by anyone. The Brits pathetically keep trying to hype this mediocre guitar band as some second coming of the Beatles but they don't even come close. And I gotta agree. The definitive live sound of Oasis - strictly for me, of course - is Earl's Court '95... And Bonehead can be heard, loud & proud, in the mix... With Guigsy even being turned up a bit.

Im sure Johnny Marr tipped off Alan Mcghee, or one of his associates, to have a look at the band when they were performing in Scotland. The story is apparently Alan McGhee used to date one of the girls in the band they shared the bill with. But if tour ex boyfriend was a music executive wouldn't the girls at least mentioned it to Oasis and let them know they have industry contacts? 1990s music was a decade of its own
When 1990s was over oasis was over, i was surprised they lasted as long into the new century as they did. I personally did not hear a song of theres after 1998
The 1990s was a decade all of itself, and the music in that decade was the last real decade of music
Todays music is for druggies populations, and singers off there heads smoking rubbish, and making music for people who smoke rubbish.
There is no energy to music this century, what ever it was that music stars used to do, they simply do not do anymore.
Without nirvana all these bands would of not been mainstream
Reason oasis was over this century, was they were on 1990s wave of energy that nirvana created, and then it just went away, and no band ever had made that new energy wave again
Nirvana was last time a new energy came into music, and since then nothing.
This century music is just boring.

Ive never felt Oasis to be genuine, so the music as good as it probably is, with that thought in mind also sounds disingenuous. Unfortunately the conceited nature of the Gallagher's was all over the media so I never bothered listening to the music. Worst of all they put other bands down to elevate their own perceived position. I hoped by watching your presentation I'd find a bit of sympathy and maybe leverage to listen to their albums. But to date i see no redeemable qualities. Your work is good I look forward to more.

I do think them putting other bands down is immature and I disliked them at first too for that very reason, but to me Definitely Maybe and Noel's work in the 90s definitely feels like it came from his heart.
