Alan Wake 2 has a beautiful natural lighting look to it that I appreciate even at 50 brightness using HGIG. This is coming from someone who loves 1500 bit specular highlights.

So I think LG fixed the dynamic tone mapping for the G3. Setting the inhame brightness to 50 and turning on dynamic tone mapping instead hgig produces a better image the hgig by a long shot. Black dark areas are still dark and black without raised black levels and there is more detail in the dark areas, colors are better as well and the image looked much more natural and bright. Definitely try it out. Remember, set the in game brightness to 50 before turning on dynamic tone mapping in game mode. It looks like hgig but without the black crush and dull image.

I feel like you could do a video about Lilium's HDR Reshade tools. A lot of people actually don't know about it and that you can fix black level raise in certain games (Cyberpunk for example) with the HDR black level floor fix shader.

I had to come check this video because after playing several other games (and loving Lilium's analysis tool), i was surprised to see Alan Wake 2 only outputting in a Bt.709 color space. The new Cyberpunk 2.1 update kind of blew me away with its improved color depth in HDR, so i'm wondering if there's something i'm missing or if this is just the way the game was authored.

    Great work as always! 👏
How about setting up the system level HDR incorrectly on purpose and going for 1000-1200 nits peak brightness on an 800 nit display? Of course that would lose us some detail in the brightest highlights, but it should bring most other highlights closer to the display‘s peak brightness without lifting the black floor, right? I‘ll do some experimenting on that as well, once I get my hands on the game. Can‘t wait to play it! 🤩

Have you manually made your G2 OLED enter the BT 2020 color space for HDR coming from your PC? I see in your UI tray, you have the BT 709 listed as the color space the app is running in. Many modern OLEDs seem to require you to force HDR content into BT2020 for it to be running in it's proper native HDR color space

HDR is such a pain the ass. I have an Acer Predator X32fp and it wasn't cheap by any means. HDR gaming content either looks washed out, or barely better than running the thing at default SDR. Really annoys me you have to spend an hour just to get the calibration "correct" and then it merely looks ok. Sure the whites are pretty white and bright things like fire look fantastic, but is it really worth the hassle?

Black level raise can be tuned easily on PC. But for people on console everything is dependent of the developer and native support for system level calibration. This is the reason my PS5 is more collecting dust than being used. I'll rather gane on PC because we can fix HDR easily now regardless of the game.

    • @TheEdmaster87
      @TheEdmaster87 Před 5 měsíci

@@nsinghc2799 DL reshade and DL lilium shaders. Run reshade app, direct it to the game folder and copy over shader and texture folder from lilium to the game folder where reshade folders are located. Now, enable windows hdr and run the game, max out hdr brightness levels in game, press home key and enable lilium tone mapping. Set your levels to your max tv peak brightness. Enable lilium black floor shader and tick sdr black floor emulation. Enable lilium hdr analysis tool and check the brightness and black levels. Tune down the black level even more if its not 0.00000000. It should be completely black. Now enjoy hdr gaming, no raised black levels and full tone mapping to your TVs peak brightness. Pro tip: Also use HGIG in your TV. Also enable 10-bit,RGB and FULL in your Nvidia graphics driver settings.

I noticed that on 100 brightness yes it is much brighter but you loose a lot of details look at 4:08 you can clearly see the sky at 50% while at 100% all you see is white clouds because of the high brightness levels, I personally prefer a more natural look, this game is a very dark game so if you are having problems seeing in the dark adjust the black levels on the TV, but then we are all using different TVs to play this game, some times I play it on the samsung Neo G8 monitor which is very bright and the settings will be totally different than my Oled TV.

That's almost certainly the camera not being able to capture the range of what the TV was displaying. That's why it's always a bit iffy to capture footage off screen like that. If he adjusted his camera exposure to compensate it would have darkened the rest of the image and just made it look more similar to the 50 image

Is your consensus to not use Dolby Vision on Series consoles and simply rely on HGIG (or in my Vizio's case turning on Game HDR) along with properly calibrated System HDR Settings or is keeping Dolby Vision on a solid option?
Does this (or any game) HDR brightness "fix" even matter in this game if you are using Dolby Vision since Dolby Vision is supposed to be doing all the work anyways?

hdr is trash, I gave up on it a long time ago. It needs to be fully manually tuned by the actual artists making the textures, otherwise, you get a washed out joke that wasn't the artists' intentions. The washed out mid tone scenes is one problem, brights not being bright enough and darks not being dark enough is another.
But worst of all, vetical banding. I've seen vertical banding every TV I've ever used. In dimly lit scenes that should probably be fading to black look really washed and have large vertical collumns and more on the left side of the screen for some reason.
An then there's constantly having to change up all your settings, TV, GPU, in game settings, every time you switch content. give me a break!
👎 Sdr's way to go, and I don't see this changing until they realize hdr CANNOT be a linear application, ruins the low color low light scenes, it needs to be tuned specifically to brights, darks and color highlights.

This whiskhot doesn't understand your message. It's about the impact of each setting when you change them. How much impact it has. I am glad that I have subscribed to your channel. I find your videos very helpful and I learned from them. Keep it up Bro ! @@GamingTech-CZcams
