As an elder alone, I would love to welcome a dog into my life but have no one reliable who would help in an emergency and that would be unfair to the dog. They are so loyal and loving and deserve best care.

animals. I’m a pensioner and I couldn’t cope with animals now, physically or financially. I have had little dogs
in the past so I know all about their needs and wants and how much they cost to keep.
Every thing so true...we have Poppy, 7/8? Years old pincher from the street, and now is 4 years we are togethers....we always had dogs and cats togheder, and best remember is my grandmother, 101 years old, sleping with our super big black dog, on our sofa in the television room...thanks for everything....from Haifa, Israel...

Dogs are hilarious and they know exactly what they want! I was once away from home for ten days visiting my auntie; when I came home, the dog ran past me to my husband…who has been home with her the WHOLE time! I mean, eventually she realized I was home, but I knew my place 😂
My husband was in the hospital for just under two days. The dog spent the whole time lying listlessly on the couch until hubby came home and she flipped out with excitement.
It’s okay, though. When she’s hurt, sick, or scared, she comes right to me and I’m the only one she listens to! 😂

Provided every elder has an extra large comfortable dog bed, large daily amounts of quality food, big water bowls refilled regularlly, two to three walks a day, a large outdoor running area and special funds for vet checks and vet emergencies. It is so irresponsible to tell people everyone should have one of these, without thinking of the animal's welfare and wellbeing needs
I agree but at age 66 i only take my dog 🐕 Baren for 1 walk a day after 3 knee surgeries! Greetings from Annapolis Maryland! 💙😶💜

But there are never any welfare or financial costs included for the animal. This large dog has essential needs that many older people will not be able to meet for the amimal to live without sufferring. I dont think its fair for animals to be advertised or promoted like objects, without people having checks to see if they can manage and afford a pet first, especially a large dog that will have additional requirements🐕😊
@@franceslynch8815I experienced heart failure a few years ago (I’m 82 now). At the time I had two little dogs. I was unable to walk any distance. One dog was very young, the other getting up in years with lots of old age stuff. With a heart near breaking, I gave my sweet baby to my CA daughter who had lost one of her dogs and loved Jack. I kept old Joey who would have been terrified with a new owner as he was losing sight and hearing. He died a couple years ago at 17. I miss having a dog so much but chances are a new dog would outlive me. Adopting a senior dog may be beyond my physical and financial abilities. You are right, the dog’s well being is the first consideration.

In USA if you get your MD to state you need a companion dog, the landlord cannot deny you !
@@brega6286 Do you comprehend how much money is involved in getting a companion dog and how many hoops you have to jump through. First you have to go to the vet, make sure the animal has been spayed or neutered, if not, you must do it, then you have to provide documents for all the shots . You then have to go to your doctor's and have the complex fax documents to your doctor's office because they don't trust you to carry the forms in. Your doctor then has to fill these documents out claiming that you need a companion dog, and a lot of doctors won't. Then the doctor has to fax the papers back to the complex. Then if you are approved by your doctor, the complex will allow you to have a pet, but they charge you extra every month. This is after you are on a waiting list for at least a year and up to 5 years. Also you will only be approved after waiting 1 to 5 years if you have good credit. If you have any bills in the credit bureau that aren't medical you will be denied. Ok so you waited a year to get in, you spent all you invested 3 months into getting approved for an animal, now the weekly notices for inspections start. Every week you will receive a notice that you might be inspected for 9 months until every apartment in the complex has been inspected, then you begin getting violations because a visitor was in an argument on the phone with someone in the parking lot of your complex. Then because they have cameras in every hallway or entryway to monitor who comes and goes from your apartment they begin watching you. Everytime that person visits your apartment they make something new up and tell you that person isn't allowed to come to your apartment or they will evict you. However, if you are being stalked by someone, they don't take that seriously. This is why people choose homelessness over living in these complexes. They target who they want to target, but your neighbors can allow their kids to scream and jump and yell at 2 a.m and get drunk and have domestic issuues while they cuss at their children and that's ignored. That's the reality of living in income based housing. I did it, and I have no desire to do it again. It's like living under house arrest. Every move you make is monitored and you are told who and when you are allowed to have visit you. God forbid one of your children need a place to stay with their children, because you aren't allowed to invite them to stay with you. You are isolated, monitored and treated like a criminal, which is hilarious because you can't have anything on your record to get into these places. Sounds like a dream come true doesn't it? Criminals get more leniency than poor people with disabilities.
