    Great information and video. Two of my favorite previous pumping videos were the "Half Life -- How to Pump a Hydrofoil" and "Oskar Foil -- How to Pump a Hydrofoil Longer and Further". Glad you guys met up to discuss. I know Oskar likes the 85cm mast but what front wings and tail wings do you like when prone foil surfing. And what length fuselage do you prefer? I have the Armstrong Wing Surf 4'5" (34L) -- but which Armstrong board is that in the video and what are it's dimensions and weight? Thanks!

    • @HALFLIFEVIDEO
      @HALFLIFEVIDEO  Před rokem +3

      Hi H H. Prone foil setup depends upon where you are in your progression.
      Starter: HS1550V2, 60cm fuse, 232 tail, 72cm mast -- good setup
      Mid: CF1600 50cm fuse, V200 tail, 72cm mast - playfull, fun, predictable
      Advanced: HA925, 50cm fuse, V200 tail, 72cm mast - ripping! (you can replace HA925 w/ CF900; replace V200 HA195 tail)
      We use the longer mast 85cm for wing foil and tow in on larger waves.
      Hope that helps. The board in the video is the upcoming WKT board (Wake, Kite, Tow)
      Cheers,
      Tim

    I thought there was more hydrostatic pressure as you go deeper into the water so why is the foil more efficient closer to the surface?

    • @HALFLIFEVIDEO
      @HALFLIFEVIDEO  Před 2 měsíci +2

      Less drag. Less material to go through the water.
      Have fun and get out there and pump!

    I think one thing that is often over looked or not talked about as much is… the rider’s weight vs. foil size. If you’re not matched to the right size foil you’re going to be frustrated and will not progress. Ask me how I know:(

    • @HALFLIFEVIDEO
      @HALFLIFEVIDEO  Před rokem +1

      Hey John -- how do you know Lol :-) Yep - picking the right foil is KEY. That said - once you get proficient you have a LOT more leeway in terms of foil sizes. Take @sky.rama for example -- big buy 6'2" ~200lb and he can pump pretty much anything.

      @HALFLIFEVIDEO  Před rokem +1

      Hi Ken -- I'll let Oskar reply but he rides a lot of different gear down there in Australia mostly matched to the conditions. When he set the world record - it was on Armstrong. I believe a HA1325 but I'll let him comment. Thanks for checking out the video - please subscribe to the channel.

    Coming off the back of the wave to pump back out. Pushing my front foot down feels like I'm pushing a brick down, won't go and kicks back up and me off after a couple of pumps. I'm fine on the wave just can't get the foil to behave going back out. Any ideas?

    • @HALFLIFEVIDEO
      @HALFLIFEVIDEO  Před rokem +1

      there's a hole on the back side of the wave. Exit with max speed -- wide arc -- pause at the top of the wave back for glide -- then stay high in the water column.

  • @jf4246
    @jf4246 Před rokem +2

    What size and model wings is Oskar using. Which set ups are optimal for connecting waves. Also, what is the technique for projecting forward.

    • @HALFLIFEVIDEO
      @HALFLIFEVIDEO  Před rokem +1

      For the record run I believe he was on the HA1325.
      Connecting waves depends a bit on the waves you're in, rider weight etc. Whatever you pump the best is the answer - not trying to be snarky....a setup such as CF1600 50cm fuse V200 tail is fantastic for reconnects. OR replace CF1600 w/ HS1550V2 --- the CF1600 has a slower stall speed and replatforms better; the HS1550V2 is faster. Regardless of choice - the exit off the wave is the most important part of setting up for reconnect.
      Hope that helps.

    I think some guys play piano, guitar etc in perfect timing/tune with the rest of the orchestra. They don't skip a note. It's perhaps his case, Sky Rama and some others, but instead of using hands and fingers it's their legs. Can an averge Joe play guitar? That's why I don't think if I buy a new Armstrong Ultra Super HA "Guitar" will improve my pumping, but I might look cool at the beach as I give excuses like it's too mushy, I like when it's jacking up etc

    • @HALFLIFEVIDEO
      @HALFLIFEVIDEO  Před rokem +2

      Well Claudio -- while the average Joe can't play guitar with an orchestra...he certainly can play guitar and entertain himself. Now would a Martin help him sound better than a beater from the pawn shop....only after he/she learned a couple chords. Foiling for better or worse is a bit of a world of have and have nots -- the top brands - Armstrong, Axis, Lift, Unifoil (I'll let others add here) do simply perform better than the entry level brands. Gear will NOT enable you to pump - you will - but it's easier with better gear. Look cool on the beach and pump better as well :-)
      Cheers and thanks for the fun comment.
